But did taxpayers really pay for it? That presumes federal taxes pay for federal spending. The real problem with not taxing the capitalists is that they use their profits to buy politicians and legislation.

john - you are a very motivated propionate for gun controls - but poorly informed on many points . i will list these points as questions . please sir tell me of a legal gun dealer that sells in any environment without a license and without back ground checks ? what military uses an AR15 as their issue weapon ? what can be gained by restricting a handicap person from an easy to handle/operate safely defense tool? as your talks you promote license and registration tell me please 1 good /useful benefit to this firearm owner of either? you reside in a environment were gun control restrictions have advanced way beyond what most of the country would tolerate or comply with - and scream for more. thus we in the flyover states have stopped listening.

i might add - we - I - have no intention to comply with your level of restrictions while in service to USAF I became friends with the site cook - a licensed Danish chef - one night he ask if my home required registration of firearms - (me)no they do not - good , never register firearm no matter law, -(me) why - when I was 7 nazi came to town , no one know what to do, nazi went to police building, midnight soluures come to our home - search for fathers registered pistol from police record , we are at street , when soldier find pistol he gave it to officer ,, officer shot father in the head w his pistol --- look at our current open boarders and tell yourself you are safe from that here

the rich entrepreneurs who are upset at the quality of public education should start after hours institutes/academies to teach what they want how they want, instead of pushing for charter schools. the most important reason is that you can attract kids who are curious about a subject and want to learn more than the rest of their colleagues without ruining the chances of an average student to learn something also in a public setting.

Hard to gauge cause and effect. One thing for example as a critique of Mark and Feel in a here... Scare tactics... Beans and rice are cheaper than dog food for the elderly... But keeping them in pain at the end of life waists money but feeds a powerful legal/medical establishment. Teddy Roosevelt gets a "progressive " A ...but he a was a war monger... All of this discussion is not rigorous enough for me. Debt is how the bills get paid.. Because the Government has squashed and infantilized the civil society... Damaged purchasing power etc. All of those great inventions created by the military industrial complex humanity did live and flourish without. Value creation, contribution and payment create a wonder filled civil society. Yet we continue to use propaganda, Force and theft. Go figure.

@@budnotu Sweetie, had you actually listened to this man speak, you might be aware of how absurd is your comment. As for the assertion that you are responding to someone 'who does not know' what she is talking about, how do you know that? It is perfectly possible that Lise, like myself, has listened via the web to every speech Mayor Pete has delivered and read his book. That she has read a wide range of accounts of his work in South Bend and looked into his career as undergraduate, Rhodes Scholar and serving officer in a conflict zone. It will be quite a stretch to pull down a man of this stature and good character, if that is what you consider a valid purpose in life.

I am 65. The mayor gives me hope about the younger generation. Mr Sanders should stay in the Senate. I remember all of Mr. Hubert Humphrey’s attempts to be president and he lost. He had the country’s best interest like Mr. Sanders but the voters must have seen something unappealing about Mr. Humphrey. After losing to Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Nixon he stayed out of office for 2 years and then returned to the Senate never again running for president. But . . . Most of his accomplishments came from being in the Senate and as Vice President he WAS the PRESIDENT of the United States Senate. I would have to support Mr. Buttigieg because of his age just like the voters in 1960 voted for Mr. Kennedy.
