Sam, I would like to know what your thoughts are on the likelyhood of the Jihad getting their hands on a nuclear weapon, and using it, for instance on Israel or elsewhere. Because they have the martyrdom at the center of their religious beliefs, I doubt they would hesitate. Also, do you believe a country like North Korea ever sell a nuclear weapon off to an islamic force to use and take credit for to further their geo political goals? Thanks for the podcast!

Failing to expel students who assaulted Jewish students doesn't support the accusation of Antisemitism. Do you think they would have been expelled if they assaulted white students in the same ways. The school probably doesn't want to get called Islamophobic for kicking out Muslim students in the wake of a Muslim attack. I would not expect this reasoning from Sam Harris. Whataboutism is pointless. Any time anyone talks about what they think some country's bad actions are, you can always say, "Why aren't they talking about this other bad thing this other country is doing?"

Kids from the most prestigious universities in the US falling for the hate trap of Hamas just demonstrate how humans can easily be brainwashed into doing inconceivable actions. We often look at Nazi Germany in disbelief that a nation could be manipulated in such a way. Well, see how history is bound to repeat itself.

I wish your intelligent assessment could be presented to a much wider audience. Unfortunately, for the most part, most of those listening agree with you. How does one spread the word, when social media seems to have taken over the world, added and abetted by the so called news media?

Please interview someone you actually disagree with on this topic Sam Harris. Jay Bhattacharya would be good. In this case, you and DWW seem to be refuting only very extreme opposing perspectives that are not held by the vast majority of gov vaccine policy critics. You're too smart to use that straw man tactic / be so seemingly oblivious to the steel man opposing perspectives. I suspect the vast majority of critics of vaccine policy think the vaccine is a great thing, but not the lack of age cost/benefit consideration, livelihood destruction, and educatioin setbacks, for example, (all, it seems to me, misleadingly downplayed here). I'm a big fan of your analysis often ...and shockingly disappointed sometimes. Thanks for thinking and sharing.

I think both sides lie. That includes you, Sam. The cameras (the most reliable witnesses) show nothing but ruins. I'm no expert, but this looks a lot like saturation bombing to me. Sorta like we did to Germany and Japan at the end of WW2 (which Germany did to all of its victims at the start of the war, except for Paris, France. I consider the body counts (on both sides) to be crude estimates at best. They could be wildly under stated as well as wildly over stated. Hamas could well be lying. But they have the best access to the truth. Israel can only guess.

This is "your" neuron, isn't it? It's part of your brain, its you! You produce a behavior with this neuron in state A. Then you go back in time, change this neuron to state B and, self evidently, produce another behavior. Why does Sapolsky expect the same behavior from a "changed" neuron? I don't get it. Am I missing something here?

It was never explained why most people who have dreams about deceased parents never allude to a correlation between an afterlife and the appearance of a parent within a dream. Also, what types of apparitions, during near death, occur to those whose parents (and grandparents, for that matter) are still alive?

I love this guy, ever since I read his book "Tribe". So much angst and dissatisfaction in our society is explained well by his ideas I believe. One statistic he brought up really made me think, that babies in the west get 17% of the skin to skin contact with their mother as a baby compared to other poorer countries. Thinking of what that does to a developing brain was interesting and that's just one small bit of interesting stuff in "Tribe". As a combat veteran ex infantryman who has lost more than a few friends and acquaintances to suicide that book was so cathartic to read and rang so true. It Just clicked.

Sam, it’s not about killing few journalists or eight workers by a mistake. It’s about killing hundreds of thousands of people using indiscriminate weapons. And because it’s quite obvious to me that you’ve read nothing about the situation in Palestine so I recommend you to wake up and check the history of the region from the early 1900s. Then you maybe understand who the terrorists are. but maybe it’s not gonna change your mind because you don’t care because you live in a country which started by killing from 5 to 10, millions of indigenous people of North America. Now you keep them in reservations and you feel everything is alright. I think you should rather stay in your field of specialty, which is rather philosophy not geopolitics because your statements are pretty dumb and highly biased. It keeps scrutinising to the smallest detail bit information in favour of Palestine but accept without blinking an eye everything from the Israelis .

I am not ivy league educated, went to a community college but I CAN see evil. I don't need some PHD from Yale or Harvard to tell me evil when I see it. I saw the cheering of the civilians in Palestine, not just Hamas when the hostages were taken in Gaza. Hamas and their civilian, YES CIVILAN supporters cannot be reasoned with when this kind of behavior is CELEBRATED. I didn't need to hear the "what about 45 years ago" from the other side when they gave reasons why this type of action was valid. No, in no world is this right I see a raped woman with blood on her pants. this is horrid. My mother is an immigrant . Her country was oppressed by Spain. I would be ashamed to see the men in my family RAPE Spanish women as revenge. But my family wouldn't do that bc we are civilized people. how do these ivy league educated people not see the DIFFERENCE?

That was a Lucid dream he had as he came in and out of conscious. The mind ,in a sleep state, created everything he notes during his medical procedure. We can track Lucid dreams in the mind from analyzing electrical activity and biochemical changes. The frontal cortex quiets down during sleep state, while the emotion/imagination centers churn with electrical activity. In fact, old dreams can be remembered by peeling back the skullcap and stimulating parts of the brain with electrical impulses while the patient is awake. Their feedback is quite amazing and documented in thousands of cases.

Keep in mind that the gods and ministry of health claims of civilian losses include fighters and civilian clothing, loss of due to natural causes, and losses due to their own missiles falling on their own. Over a thousand missiles have fallen on their own City so far. And then as we know now, the numbers were being exaggerated on top of that.

In this context Its worth mentioning Man's Search for Meaning the 1946 book by Viktor Frankl chronicling his experiences as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps during World War II, and describing his psychotherapeutic method, which involved identifying a purpose to each person's life through one of three ways: the completion of tasks, caring for another person, or finding meaning by facing suffering with dignity.

Well... that's simple: US isn't supporting Russia (the aggressor) in that war. While the US *is* supporting the aggressor (Israel) in this war. And yes, you can make an argument that Hamas was the real aggressor on Oct7, but in the new reality it no longer is.
