What’s your thought on the future of railroading in Asheville ? How many other customers really are there ? Canton literally had more rail cars then in the Asheville yard sometimes. It’s a shame but I’m glad I caught a little bit of the haydays back in 2010s. Every time you drove by the yard there would be trains East and westbound ; parked and ready to move. Oh man and the coal trains!!! I loved em cuz they’d creep into the yard sooo slowly. And always stop before fully in. I’ll be turning into Chattanooga trainman eventually as you don’t even need to railfan chattanooga you just drive around and boom there’s trains everywhere.
@Captainstrains9882 Жыл бұрын
I heard that some special train came through Asheville last week and the week before, transporting cars to Spencer. Hope that would be the new normal, or, Asheville is dead. Usually, the freight headed there will head through Roanoke, the long way, because the S line, has seen a speed restriction of 25mph, probably due to Hurricane Irma, a crew shortage at Asheville, possibly PSR, and Covid was the straw that broke the camels back. And with P87 not running woodchips anymore and now working in Old Fort, and the closure of Canton Mill, Asheville railfanning is in deep trouble, like how it's been for 3 years unless through freight comes back! If Little Evergreen in Waynesville shuts down, I believe IPEX (formerly Silver Line Plastics) in Woodfin and Kimberly Clark, down in Hendersonville, is the busiest industry for Asheville Area. The railfans in Asheville now have to travel to catch trains until traffic comes back. Chattanooga is a great place to see some action, and I've seen Chattanooga on a webcam. Thinking of going down there one day!

I think P87 serves Auria Solutions, and Columbia Foredt Product's, but it's as needed, or P60 is the last one on the loops, serving those Industries. This can be a reroute, because I believe those cars should head to Roanoke, and ride another train to Knoxville, the normal out of the way route, and one of those trains got ti big, they needed to run this extra. Somethings up, or a new normal is coming. Well find out next week. I will make a description for this video soon.

So glad for these videos because I never see any day trains due to working all day/ I don’t know when they come….
I caught her because I was home sick, and that was a hit! I catch trains one in every 4 weeks. My family is very busy.
Since the woodchips are gone thats what you probably going see
I think P87 serves Auria Solutions, and Columbia Foredt Product's, but it's as needed, or P60 is the last one on the loops, serving those Industries. This can be a reroute, because I believe those cars should head to Roanoke, and ride another train to Knoxville, the normal out of the way route, and one of those trains got ti big, they needed to run this extra. Somethings up, or a new normal is coming. Well find out next week. I will make a description for this video soon.
I was going over the bridge when I saw it as
What bridge? I was crossing over the train yard right before it came under me.
@@Captainstrains9882 the bridge on Haywood Rd that goes over the tracks
@@Captainstrains9882 the bridge at the very end of your video
@@sir.boxyboi2623 So you were above me! Cross that bridge most Wednesdays at 3:50PM
@@Captainstrains9882 yea, I normally go that way to get home so I love looking at the train go by, it's always a goodie a see something special
Great video, a lot of old locomotives, weird to think the oldest dash 9 was the youngest locomotive there.
I know! The SD60E in my opinion was the youngest. The youngest untouched was the 9396. the 8425 eventually went to the scrapper. The 9396 is somehow running, and its the only 9300 series dash 9 left! Something goes wrong with the 9396 soon, its sent to get rebuilt!
@@Captainstrains9882 Yep, hopefully 9396 survives long enough that it may survive into preservation, NS definitely needs to keep a few dash 9s for museums and heritage.
@@Bload72productions the dash 9 40c is dead for good. The SD80mac is extinct. The 9396 will probably be in storage in like a week. NS might not preserve one.
@@Captainstrains9882 I know and it's ashame, I think railroads should keep at least one of each locomotive class behind for preservation.
Awesome 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻

Gonna be interesting when the paper mill closes . It accounts for a lot of freight coming and going from Asheville.
It is! I have planned to do the inevitable: Take a day off from school just to catch P87 on the loops, and I haven’t chased it there in almost 2 years and it was just 1 and done. Might take another day off and catch the last P87 because some railfan is saying that P87 will go away be mid to late April.
The first responders train is in the Asheville yard right now btw
@@ashevilletrainman6989 waiting for it to leave so I catch it!
Insane! 9396 is the oldest dash 9 running as of December 2nd
And it’s still is today!
It sucks Asheville has so little trains. It’s like a railfan paradise around here… countless spots to set up tripods and wait for however long. Just got back from Chattanooga and while there were trains just about every single second it’s not the best in terms of accessible railfanning.
The thing is, I know the times of trains! And I will be re-uploading this video in 4K 60FPS!
@@Captainstrains9882 yeah you have to , to be able to see trains around here. There’s usually a train that leaves to Knoxville at 2am, arriving around 8 am. And a train heads to Asheville from Knoxville around 4/5 am, arriving from 10:30am-12pm ish
@@ashevilletrainman6989 yes! I will chose CSX in Erwin Tennessee. It’s less than an hour, seismic drive, and friendly crews!
Nice chase! The light and locations are perfect. We’ve never fanned P60. They go to Oyama and back?
@@bryanmarshall8124 that's true! Departing at 5 o'clock!

Yes! All 420’s! The first one is dedicated I n honor of the old Trains Magazine editor, but it’s only on one side!
@@Captainstrains9882 do you know what radio frequency Asheville yard uses?
I use broadcastify, so I can only listen to the dispatcher on the line from Biltmore eastward.
Bro when was this filmed 9802 is my favorite NS engine on the NS roster very cool not seen a video of 9802 sense 2020 soo cool. Also fun fact 9802 was face in the Direction when it left the yard in the fall of 2020.

Nice ever went down to see craggy mountain line southern7
Yes, in fact, I can bike there to see the 7 soon! Also, the Old Fort Loops has some great spots.
People in asheville just don't care
Just because it has a p5 horn doesn't mean its rare . But all in all dash 9s are not rare
the 9954 is rare. I know the P5 horned Dash 9's aren't rare because i caught some with P5's.
@@Captainstrains9882 9954 isn’t ware it’s just like all of the dash 9s
look at the logo and look at the front of the cab.
@@Captainstrains9882 yes its a white face i see those all the time there not rare
Its a white face and an old NS logo, usually its a whiteface and a new logo.
