For over 130 years, Nashville has evolved into the world's premier Music City. From the 1800s when the Fisk Jubilee Singers travelled across continents spreading their music, to Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and so many others building the foundation of America's most vibrant music scene. Today, the evolution continues as artists like The Black Keys, Eric Church and Kings of Leon break new ground in the city they all call home. We've created a one-hour documentary that tells this story in its entirety through the eyes of the musicians, songwriters, producers and artists who live and breathe the inspiration of this great city.
On this channel, you'll find bonus clips and extras that didn't make the film, but are great insights into the lives and work of the artists. Enjoy!

Never will see another songwriter as Kris Kristofferson in our lifetime. The best. Period. Every word. Every song. Well chosen. Perfectly blended. ❤ ILYK
Perfect. By the greatest songwriter to grace this earth. ILYK AAF ❤
I don't even like much country, but this......I dig this
Country music is shit today. REALLY what is played on the radio today that is country? FUCK, FUCK, FUCK.
Brett and Tim. Two fantastic songwriters!
Laughed the idea off at first until Jesus touched their hearts.
Doyle Dykes wannabe

So whatever you sing or write Nashville has a home for you
What a performance from the heart that blew me away
I remember him telling this story in Ken Burns County Music and my Dad and I laughing so hard we were red in the face!
Such evocative words and music. Thank you Kris for heart opening music.
Incredible

Yeah I get it about Nashville but NC/SC have a lot of talent and sure is a beautiful place to live.

Nashville ~ Pothole capital USA

I'm proud to be living in Nashville even if I'm currently Houseless cause Nashville is where it's at from a creative aspect as a musician singer songwriter struggling to get myself together here
How’s it going now in Nashville for you??? Hope all is well
Probably watched this 50 times over the years
I miss the civil wars.
I always hear about Nashville how great musicians are all there and community and history and roots and legacy and great studios and engineers and etc....And all I hear come out of Nashville is category Z, Hip hop RnB, bro country bullshit? How does that work?
Bradley Cooper plays guitar
The best. I'd rather here an aged Kristofferson sing this classic than anybody else. I hold this to be the finest American song ever written -- the loneliness and desperation are palpable. Nobody else writes like this.
I agree
It echoed through the canyon like the disappearing dreams of yesterday
The first quote :)

howdy folks
Ive been to Nashville several times I love it Soo much way better than Los Angeles
As much love as I have for Nashville, they almost killed country music. Churning out pop music like a factory, made country music terrible but thankfully social media has loosened the control the music industry had. Appalachian artists like Tyler Childers and Sturgil Simpson are keeping country at it’s roots.
Disagree, as an observer in another country. Those popular artists you mention exist sure, but many of them are also very clear on their reference points, which lie in traditional country. This means kids are discovering music they wouldn't have otherwise discovered, and it is letting more underground/ alternative country artists create something new and interesting. Plus, you have amazing individuals like Jack White doing great things. And whether people enjoy her music or not, Swift has always looked after the local record stores and smaller recording companies back in Nashville no matter how big she has gotten, helping many survive Covid and still be able to pay their staff (out of her own pocket) It might look different, but authenticity is still there.
(as for me, I am going to keep on dreaming of living in Nashville lol).
@@samanthamay6714 I’m talking about the Nashville sound, this is what a lot of country music documentaries refer to, when discussing the over produced country pop songs of the 1950’s. This was used in order to compete with rock n’ roll. This has been carried on to today and this is why, we have country pop. All of it’s not bad but sometimes it feels like it’s mocking my way of life, I live in Appalachia.
Gordie Sampson has written some beautiful material. That's for sure. Wish he was here among you folks, instead of being talking about. One of my favourite musicians, that's for sure. And Canadian!
Love to see your success now from knowing you long ago. You’re the real deal through and through. ✌🏽👍🏼
I should go visit this place Oh i forgot there's covid and I can't come to the USA
Darius Rucker, as great as he is, doesn’t do this song justice.
You know technically this is a Christmas song considering the timeline given
Nashville looks and sounds like a wonderful place ...
I really enjoyed this. It was great to get a visual reference to a lot of the things I’ve learned from listening to Tyler mayhan Coe’s podcast ‘cocaine and rhinestones: the history of country music’ …being English (and 35) country music has always gone over my head…mostly due to getting hardly any exposure to it here in the UK and the stuff I had heard I didn’t really understand, but I’ve learned so much from cocaine and rhinestones and discovered some amazing music
Go to show how nobody knows or cares about the writer. Great version and I prefer it
Money hungry producers moved into Nashville and changed the original country sounds. Over commercialized.
Yes, very well said. Plus so many people from CA have moved to TN just the last couple of years.
Awsome !
I have never seen such a bunch of Hooligans as at the start of this video. Country Music greats of the 1940s-1960s would not recognize what is called Country Music today.
Of course they wouldn’t, times change.
My Dad worked for this Company for 38 years!
I love Nashville
Nashville is Music City a lot of History There im a 42 year old struggling singer songwriter id love to get my foot in the door in Nashville
