    Here's my story about this event. I was wanting Chastain to make it to the final four. But when he started his wall ride and he put it up against the wall I thought he had a flat tire or his tire blown and he had no choice but to go into the wall. And the one I thought he won't go that fast around the wall anyway if his tire was down. But when he was flying around that wall I knew that something wasn't right. The very next day after this race I end up saying replay after replay of this this was so incredible

    If they wipe away Ray Combs from their history, I will boycott watching any episodes, past or present. Ray sadly was cooked, once Mark Goodson passed away. It was his son who tossed him. I for so many years, cannot understand why they brought Dawson back, as his replacement. I did not care for him during his 1st go around, and same for his return. I believe if Goodson lived a few more years, Ray would have continued on as host. I also noticed they have used Ray's version for Harvey, and yes you are absolutely right. Each host should have had their own version of them, meant just for them. I hated the one they used for Karn.

    i do remember thinking (and yes i'm sorry if i was wrong) when he blamed it on the concussion that yeah that's just an excuse. like most fans i didn't know how bad a concussion could mess u up. not sure when this story took place, but i had a friend who got in a horrible car wreck going down the interstate somehow ended up going under a trailer of a big rig. guess he spun or got sideways or something and friend had nowhere to go. i'm thinking this is later than 05 but dont' remember. i think it was earlier but i'd forgotten. anyways, he comes to choir practice the next night or 2 nights later and he looks completely lost. he's sitting at the keyboard, and completely has no clue. and i'm not saying this to be mean or disrespectful that' how he looked. kid's around 21-22 at this point? been playing piano probably since age 5 or so considering most teachers won't take them any younger (and some won't take them that young either). and he's sitting at the keyboard looking at it like he's never seen one before. it wasn't till we did prayer requests, it was mentioned about his wreck and the concussion. now i'm not real smart and never have claimed to be, but................ if a guy can show up at a choir practice and sit at an instrument he's played at least 10 years ifn ot 15-16, and look completely lost and not have a clue what he's doing or looking at, i'd say if the concussion was real, (and it appears it was) then nascar SCREWED UP! I get we didn't know about concussions the way we do now, and there were no protocols, ok fine. but what was the excuse for literally leaving him hanging for 3 years without getting back in touch to restart the program. he hadn't been banned like hmiel would be. and they never said he was. WTF? i'm not disparaging earnhard or gordon or such, but if that was eanrhardt, gordon, elliot, larson, or even alllmendinger who'd of been on his 2nd strike if he'd failed or refused one after his first drug bust, do we think they'd of treated them the same way? well larson probably cause nascar handled his suspension for the n word horribly. in case you don't remember he said that in april. ok not good but i dont' think it deserved essentially a full year suspension. espeially after nascar admitted in august he's done everything we asked him to regarding reinstatement, then just to let you know for sure they'd screwed up, reinstate him in october with like 3-5 races left in season................ oh but he can't race till next year. wait if he's reinstated why aren't u allowing him to race? oh well we wanna let people know he's back so he can try to get a ride and pull sponsorship together. but u said in august he'd done everything u required........................ yeah nascar's brain went to lunch and didn't come back apparently. given that i'm not to shocked by any decision they make any more. look at gordon in 12 or 13 vs. kyle in 2011. nascar claimed well we suspended kyel for the weekend for taking out a guy going for the championship in a series he wasn't competing full time in and it manipulated the points sytem unfairly. ok........... fine, so when gordon takes out boyer the next year. it's just a huge fine, a small points penalty, and that's it. becaues why? well gordon's not been in trobule much (no........) and he was competing full time in cup (ok yes that's true) and he didn't do anything to change the chances of a championship for a driver. (NOT ONLY NO BUT HELL NO) the way it played out yes but at that moment in time no. why? boyer was still in contetnion for the championship mathmatically. of course he needed brad and jimmy to fall out and finish dead last and next to last to win championship but hey he still had a shot. 2. because of wrecking clint, jimmy gained another point or two after he'd wrekced and got back out, because the caution extended the race enough he picked up another spot or 2. now he fell out at homestead with an engine or other issue, but that 2 points could have made a difference especially for a tie breaker since jimmy had more wins. but it's gordon so that's ok. apparently? i swear nascar makes a decision one time, then refuses to back down, then next time it happens well we have to do something different because noone liked that, so they bascially do the opposite, oh wait now people hate that because it's inconsistent and now we're back to suspending people again (ie. kenseth). what a joke. drunk, on drugs, not slept in 3 days and driven from ny to alaska without sleep i could make better decisions...........

    I was also 11 when this race was run...2001 was also the year i got into nascar.... this particular race i missed but the replays obviously have lived on lol i remember liking Benson because i thought he looked like Chakotay from Star Trek Voyager lol and (idk why this is either) i always find myself drawn to the Valvoline... even if it's not my favorite driver at the wheel. Sometimes i guess we become fans of drivers for unknown reasons... I've never been totally sure why when my dad introduced me to drag racing at about 5 years old, i just latched on to Kenny Bernstein in top fuel and the Pedregons in funny car... Tony Pedregon was my favorite until he went into broadcasting, and today i still root for Cruz. Kenny was replaced by Tony Schumacher for reasons but over the years those two have become my co All time favorites

    I just discovered your channel and it was actually the photo of Darrell Russell on the thumbnail that caught my eye. I was 14 at the time, and my dad and i used to attend 3 NHRA events a year... that year we had to skip one of the races we usually attend so we made the journey to Madison instead. Being there for that event i can tell you, the energy dramatically changed after that crash. Even before it was announced Darrell had passed, the entire event just felt off, as if we all knew. My dad and i drove home the next day in disbelief. I always liked Darrell and Joe Amato... my driver is/ was Tony Schumacher so i didn't really want to see anybody challenge him for the title... so Darrell was starting to make me nervous, though i was happy to see them turning things around. That crash really took the wind out of Amato's sails i think, as he closed up shop after 2005 if memory serves. Another random question, how did Johnny Benson get to be your favorite driver?

  • @Ultimate23Dragon
    @Ultimate23DragonАй бұрын

    I believe it was either after 2008 or 2009 that Amato's team shut down. Morgan Lucas never won a race for him. The story of how I became a Johnny Benson fan is to an extent a novel. Fortunately I did a video on that which will explain everything; It's my story about the 2001 EA Sports 500.

    I've seen reviews for Great American Bash 2004, and yes... This was a bad PPV show mainly because of the SmackDown Roster being completely thinned out, despite Rob Van Dam, The Dudley Boys, and Booker T being drafted as SmackDown guys, wrestlers such as Kurt Angle, and the Big Show being sidelined to injuries, Brock Lesnar quitting WWE for Football, and the Main Event that took place. I would've been okay if the Main event was Eddie Guerrero vs. JBL since those two had solid chemistry in the ring. As much as it would upset you for saying this, but I still think that JBL winning the WWE Championship in a "Dusty Finish" was the right call because the WWE needed a Heel Champion to carry the title all the way until WrestleMania 21 where John Cena would be coronated as the Top Guy for their company. I understand how sad that day was for you, but this feels completely awkward to me especially when my favorite driver is Jeff Gordon and I wanted to see a guy of mine win a race by any means.

Also, I have tremendous respect for Marty Reid and his commentary in this video. He may not have been the greatest play by play commentator, but he handled serious and tragic situations like he did for Darrell Russell(And for Dan Wheldon as well) with the respect and classiness it deserved.

    I have no skin in this old game, but after hearing how he was swatted and then an attempt to get him to do a controlled buy came out. After his controlled urine samples were most definitely altered compared to independent samples testing negative at other labs. I knew NASCAR was trying to railroad him by any means necessary. It was at that moment that I saw Nascar as just another powerful corporation attacking and railroading him. He sure never came across as a meth head to me. If he was anymore laid back, he'd be asleep. Poor guy will never live it down. HE was permanently defamed.

Is why ther ratings have gone down and I think they should go down further for Jeremy Mayfield. What they did to him is criminal!

    I can’t tell you how much fun I’m having watching videos of people who share my NASCAR and Pokémon interests and doing the most silly, entertaining video ideas about it. Like, come on, this girl has a Pokémon trainer outfit with a Johnny Benson hat which shares the colors of Hydreigon, which might as well be THE singular most fitting Pokémon for her outside of Raichu, what’s not to love? Shoutout to the Ninetales epiphany for making me have a minor laugh attack. I’d probably have an Altaria, the Swablu line were my first favorite Pokémon, but Swablu’s a pain in the butt to train at early levels, so I slightly prefer Altaria (Also it evolves at level 35, which sucks when that’s around the sixth gym in Hoenn, so you have a cute little cotton liability for half the game, very annoying) Fantastic video all around!

    Great video Ultimate23Dragon! Ever since watching Brock Beard’s video “Johnny And The Fast White Car” and watching old races from time to time, I have always had a huge amount of respect for Johnny Benson due to his genuine personality and accomplishments in NASCAR. I had never known that Johnny had suffered that serious wreck in 2009 and it is extremely fortunate that he survived that. After watching both Dan Wheldon’s fatal crash in 2011 and Ryan Newman’s terrible crash at the 2020 Daytona 500 live on TV, I still hold firm to the statements Benson made in this video and something that we as motorsport fans must always remember every time we watch a race: While we must be thankful for the safety innovations that have been implemented in motorsports, we also must remember that it will never be 100% safe from serious injuries or death to drivers, and that the worst case scenario could happen anywhere to any racing driver in any sanctioning body. Everyone involved in motorsports must always remember that or risk not being able to avoid the worst case scenario happening to a racing driver one day.

    Oh my god, this is such a charming story. As someone who also likes Pokémon and NASCAR, the idea of doing a team themed around a NASCAR driver sounds so fun to construct and actually use. (Especially with an orange Pokémon being named “Yellow” making Ben double-check his eyesight, lol) Plus, it’s entertaining to hear you talk about wanting to battle one of your favorite KZreadrs for a while, and then making a bunch of off-the-wall move sets and such, it’s clear both you and Ben were having a great time, and that’s my favorite aspect of this already fun as hell video.
