Very capitivating Interview , one very easy to listern to down to earth fellow ..
Only guide to make it out? And Neil and Anatoli made it out too! Congratulations 🎉 and I’m glad you made it out! Please be careful we need you 😊
How do you deal with the pain? I have the same amputations and my feet have hurt every single day for the last 18 years and im tired. I need help.
Michael is like a cat with nine lives. Only he has more like 30. Love to hear him talk about his mountain adventures.
Enjoyed that
Mike Who? Never heard of him?? He did squat on Mt. Everest! in 1996 😂 I think he stayed down in base camp while others rescued people
What time in this iverview does he talk about the rob hall expedition in 1996?
Mike is an awesome and extremely humble man, he and his wife used to come into Snowbiz in Brisbane and challenge me to fit ski boots to his feet :), truly a wonderful Australian. 🏆
Everest, I mean the 2015 movie was not glorifying at all, it tried to remain respectful to all involved parties and was entertaining at the same time. It made me interested in mountaineering and I return to it from time to time. It's a dramatized story of course, because it's a film. There are other film- or documentary-versions which you can watch if you wish. The 2015 film can serve as an inspiration to inform yourself on a deeper level regarding the events depicted there and about mountaineering in general. It's a fairly good film.
To think he did it with out oxygen , baffles the mind . In the mountains there is a phenomenon called purified air. This is the lack of oxygen in the air . It's kind of hard to breathe with out it. That's why people sit down and stop moving , another symptoms is frostbite on the extremities. Affecting the fingertips and toes. Him saying he lost his feet tells me he was awful close to the other side.
What an amazing human being
Michael is an incredible human being
Awesome interview. Well done by everyone. Mike Groom is the kind of guy you want to climb with if you’re gonna be up on the mountain.
Not at all, he left beck weathers for dead twice, NOT ONCE BUT FUCKING TWICE
What is Mike Grooms book called?
Great interview, amazing adventures.
Amazing adventures and hardship, great interview! 😸
Disappointed he didn’t talk about ‘96 Everest ordeal. Would love to hear his version.
I only just discovered this video recently. It seems like a short-lived podcast, but wow am I glad Mr. Groom was a guest. Would love to see a part 2 episode for more of his stories if ever possible. I could listen to his stories all day! I’d say we need to protect this precious man at all costs, but it seems that he’s done remarkably well at surviving all these wild escapades on his own. Cool guy!
Love this man
What about Neil Beidleman?
This guy is AMAZING
Fascinating stuff!
Did they agree not to talk about '96 or something? I guess he's sick of it, but he's not really newsworthy without it. All I could think when he was complaining about his frostbite was, "Was it worth it then? And, if not, don't do it!" Sounds a bit full of himself.
I don't think we'll ever know the truth about what happened on the mountain that night. I've read several books and watched hundreds of videos about that fateful night, and the stories change every time. Even from the same people's relocations...
Read his biography a few years back. This man has nine lives! What a story.
He was actually a part of the 1996 everest disaster as well.
absolutely riveting; great job with the interview! Excited to read his book.
i watch this over and over again!!!!
i could listen to him all day!!!
😮
I could listen to him for another 2 hours
I watched this to learn more about the 96 disaster but I'm kind of glad it was hardly covered. There is so much more about Mike's life than that event and this interview covered so much of it. Might look into buying his book.
When you were a guide on Rob Hall's Everest 96 expedition and that doesn't even rank in your top two perilous adventures, you've lived quite a life!
He left that out because he knowingly left people to die
@@peteredwards5298 easy for arm chair high altitude experts like you to say lol.
@@moulanakratos not saying he’s guilty of anything as it’s every man for himself up there but he knowingly left someone on the mountain
@@peteredwards5298 he did not have a choice. Beck Weathers was pretty much comatose and blind. No one could have carried him even to BC 4 not even Anatoli who saved 3 others because they were capable of moving. The only reason Beck Weathes is alive is because for some odd reason he woke up and mustered enough energy to descend the mountain.
@@peteredwards5298 No, he did not. He just understands the definition and role of a guide, and that doesn't include mandatory self sacrifice. I guide is a guide, not a caretaker, not a parent, but a guide. You go up the mountain knowing that if you collapse above 8000m, it's nobody responsibility to sacrifice themselves to save you. Mike wouldn't expect that from his guides, to expect that is what is self absorbed.
Great chinwag and you are running an amazing channel. Subscribed! No offence intended but way to many wows 😅 Love from Tasmania and a hiker of Kunayni/Mt wellington.
Michael came to the company I worked for in Pinkenba, Brisbane to do a plumbing job and we talked just about climbing, I found him so interesting, I got a signed copy of his book too
Thank you for this video omg Mike is just amazing I could literally listen to his stories for hours I kind of wish there was more but all great things must come to an end. Amazing loved this video definitely one of my favourites. Thanks for sharing this video🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nah bro... you and your other 'guides' got nothing to brag about. Kiwi's don't walk away and leave those entrusted to their care - ie living people.. to die. Yeah ... Nah... we don't.
It’s called the death zone. Decisions can’t be judged jackarse.
Great video, what an outrageously mad life Michael has lived. Gotta get the book, or are we going to get some more episodes of this man with nine lives!!
Love this pidcast
I click on this and keep pressing fast forward to hear him tell the 1996 Everest story…….aaaaaand they don’t get to it. WTF???
You missed some epic stories
How TF do you interview Mike Groom and not talk about the Everest expedition. You asked him about every other climb he did EXCEPT the one he is known for
Hasn’t he said enough about it over the years? It’s nice hearing new stories
Mike has given several interviews about the 1996 expedition over the years… I think he was happy to get to talk about something else
Probably didn't want to spoil the book , think about it.
Hey that's my brother!!! Jk I do have a brother same exact name but in U.S.
There were other guides that made it off the mountain. Just the more prominent name wise ones were talked about that didnt.
He was the only AC guide that made it off ,
Why is the interviewer going on and on about himself when its an interview about Groom
This is brilliant, great interview, great guy!
I enjoyed this video so much. Thank you from cold Germany:)
mike groom is such an inherently decent human being. thanks for a great interview!
Really enjoyed this interview, some fantastic stories from Michael, much respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 !
Fantastic interview, Michael is one tough bit of stuff !
Ask Mike if he has ever done much pro press piping or if he prefers to solder it when running copper
Extraordinary man and genuinely good person. I saw him on an interview with 60 Minutes Australia that was about the Everest disaster, I’ve admired him ever since. God bless you Michael💕
