    The choir, why?, and why Phil "f**" Spector ? , I know was John´s idea and both passed away and may seem disrepectful, and maybe It is, they cannot defend themselves, but even if they were alive they wouldn´t even notice this post from a nobody like me.

    Yeah, I concede that I like the studio album's soloes the best, but what if they released a version with *all* the soloes included? Like, put the single & 27b takes in, then boost the ghost solo so one can hear it clearer? I think it may yield something akin to Robert Fripp's guitar parts on "Heroes:" he did three takes that all worked the best when they played them together. What are your thoughts? Can it be done?

    It can be done, but it would probably be a little messy.

    @@isolatedstems Sorry to desagree, I love John but he did a really sloppy job on the Fender VI IMHO. It was because he didn´t care not that he couldn´t play, listen the bass lines in Let It Be , it´s almost bad on purpose IMHO. BTW this is the best isolation I heard so far, good job!

    Paul always uses these arrangements live when he plays the song, so he likes them too. Just egos flashing around because he lost creative control to Phil Specter. I agree that John was sabotaging the songs he played bass on. Such an ass.

  • @isolatedstems

    I disagree with the notion that "John was playing bad on purpose". This take is from the first full ban rehearsal of the song so no one really except Paul knew the chords. Later on January 31 the bass isn't the best in the world but significantly better than any earlier takes. The last take of Let It Be, take 28, John plays a competent bass line. John was not a great bassist he was a natural born rhythm guitarist. Even his lead on Get Back was great, so the sloppy bass parts mostly come from a lack of experience on the bass, the slow quarter note baselines which would be harder for a player used to playing rhythm guitar, and just a lack of knowing all the chords. It would've been interesting to hear a George baseline and a John guitar part.

  • @isolatedstems
    @isolatedstems3 сағат бұрын

    Part of it was that Paul didn't have control, but I think a good majority of Paul's dislike came from how overpowering the orchestra was in the mix. The song is supposed to be a piano ballad, but Spector for whatever reason almost muted the piano. It's just not that good of a balance. When discussing the song on January 26th Paul was still very hesitant about adding strings. It's clear this song did need more time to cook. The Give My Regards to Broad Street version is Paul's version in my opinion. The arrangement by George Martin works hand in hand rather than suffocating the whole mix. That's have most of the live versions are too working hand in hand with the other instruments. Also John was not sabotaging the song either. Once again this is a rehearsal take taken the first day the band was running through the song. So on January 31st 5 days later the bass part is much better with less mistakes.

    Proof that The Beatles were, by the end of their career, were too much into over-production. This version in a lot more enjoyable than the mess they actually released. If it wasn't for this stripped-down version, I don't think I would have ever voluntarily listened to this again.

    It's a shame George's guitar isn't more present in the final mix. It's not like it's his finest guitar work or anything but the fact that he's trying to provide a shuffle beat on the electric guitar actually helps give the rhythm more kick and would've made the song just a smidge more "up" rather than the kinda dour dirge it came out as. Which I get was likely Paul's decision, he wanted the song to have more gravitas and heft than "Free as a Bird" or "Real Love" but it also illustrates why sometimes you need a George Harrison in the room to be the lone voice willing to challenge Paul's decisions.

  • @isolatedstems
    @isolatedstems2 күн бұрын

    I think a lot of the rhythmic energy present in this part was transferred to the strings. I think it's more of a mix problem as the whole mix is a little too compressed and doesn't give a lot of breathing room to the instruments even the bass is a little buried. Like the mixes of Real Love and Free as a Bird really allow the instruments to breath so you can hear all the elements even though there are more instruments present. Although Paul probably approved of the mix I'm not sure how involved he was in the mixing decisions. It might have been more in the hands of Giles, but who knows.

    I assume that Spector either didn't know about the January 31st takes or just used the same take Glyn Johns used for his mix. I do think this is the best take with the exception of the bass. The January 31st takes especially the drum part are a little too subdued and boring in my opinion.

The greatness of the Beatles lies precisely in the very special quality they are able to give to even the smallest and simplest of songs. Each one is a small and unique jewel.❤️

    Even if bass is today often portrayed as a solo instrument. It was originally not at all so. At least not in pop music. It was an ensemble instrument. Like a piece of a rhythmic section, or a string section. Isolated it may sound weird, but in the ensemble it really adds something that has become essential to the song. I'm glad the recording technology (at the time) made it necessary to keep John take and not replace it with a session musician or similar.
