I went to the Harvard Quarry in the late 80's, and I definitely Remember how steep it was. I found some black tourmalines, but because there were so many other mines to go to that were easier than the HQ, I only went to the HQ that one time.

So, your video was recorded in 2018, and it is now June 29, 2024. I called one of the Dobell family members about 4 months ago and asked several questions regarding the cost of material, camping, and the size of pieces one may collect. He said you can take whatever size you can afford and fit in your vehicle. Good answer! I live in Tacoma, Washington, and plan to drive there, probably later this summer. Nice video, thanks. Don Wilson.

I’m from Northwest TN. A family friend told us about this area. My family from MI have went multiple times. I, too, have gone around 6 times and found at least 30 teeth in 1.5hrs last time. I have a collection of goblin and crow shark teeth. It’s like a high when you find that first one! ❤

Maine has such beautiful pieces. The Harvard quarry tourmalines are absolutely amazing. U won't find black tourmalines (schorl) like them anywhere else.

We are going there in less than 2 weeks. I am so stinking excited. Living in MN we have no fossils so this is a fulfillment of a life long dream for me. How much material do they let you keep and do they charge to cut down the slabs to make them into smaller sections? Any helpful tips or information is very much appreciated. Thanks for the great video.

When you get a nice geode like some of those that you've shown with calcite inside, do you bath it in acid to get rid of the calcite?

Those were some awesome finds. That big broken one was a shame. I have a couple spots near whitewater. I live just south of cape girardeau. There are hundreds if not thousands of spots to hunt in the old swamp.

And these pieces look like they're from cedar... And look at different size grains of sand you'll see that those are also petrified wood...and these are pieces of giant trees... You can see more in the dakotas... Only these are of a different type of tree found in the Dakota's...

I always used to look for these with my mom when I was a kid, and she called them "Indian beads" ... it wasn't until I was an adult I learned that what we were finding was actually fossilized Crinoid stems. Now I look for them with my kids in Central Illinois!

Dang I waited 2 years to visit this place, finally stopped there after collecting druzy at haunted ridge. There's purple paint all along the treeline. Didn't see any no trespassing signs, only saw the paint, but we all know what that means.
