Thanks for sharing. All super useful info
this video is literally lifesaving
Is this discord server still avaible?
Is your discord still active?
Hi Alex, By any chance if you read this, do you still use this method as of 2024? I still use your scifi mistakes video religiously and share it with newer artists. Thanks again!
Thanks for the great tip about the bolts. It does make it look low tech having lots of big bolts everywhere.
Although I go for more of an Apollo/space shuttle design, in place of randomly shaped greebles I've built up a library of component modules like fuel tanks, thruster groups, heat radiators, etc... that way the models look more complex along with allowing the design itself to explain how it works if the person is versed in real world space travel.
This is a pretty biased and stupid video.
really love this; first time trying to model sci fi stuff, coming from decade of drawing real world buildings... it's REALLY tough to "break the box"...
Hey i have a quick question i just tried to join your discord server and gave me this “This invite link is invalid or has expired.” Can u plz give me a new invite link to the server?
Align tools don't work if you have slightly rotated your object, then you have to use the other method. Or edge scale with edge constraints.
thank you. it was very helpfull
Your design also tells a story of how long your culture has been space- fairing. You'd start with a more industrial design becoming sleeker. A visual progression would be like Halo, BattleStar Galactica, Star Wars, and StarTrek.
One of the best talks about sci-fi design. Thank you.
will you do some real-time videos please
This is such a great and useful video thank you for making this!
I loved your tutorial, please do more tutorials like this!
hola, en que programa lo renderizaste?
Can you suggest any texture pack for carbon fiber and camo?
Evenness it’s the people’s default, and u can break it only when it makes sense😂. It’s like budda hare krishna shaoling ling😂how you get to this?)
If you’re in a spaceship that’s going to be shot up by rail guns or hit by debris, do you want to go tracing down pierced and shorted cables when they’re disorganized, hard to access, in need of replacement parts? Od you you want to be able to find and fix the problem in an instant, on the spot. A panel- do you want to hammer out, cut and fold a shape, or do you want to slap down a single plane from a stock of fit-all patch panels and seal it around a minimal, simple edge?
I'm a concept artist and this video is right on the money.
The best sci-fi tutorial ever thanks for sharing your thoughts
That crash at 11:55 though ha ha. So relatable. So so relatable. They got better after 7-8 years of me using it
Man, you put a lot of thought into this. You are a true artist.
Wonder if you could do this in blender
Dude, do you ever answer emails or Artstation PM's ? I might possibly purchase a patreon sub, but I have questions... please read your emails or AS pm's
thank you )
how you doing well senpai ❤❤❤
you're one of the best Alex.......learnt a lot from you......keep going bro!!!
Крутой ты чувак,Alex. Спасибо за все наикрутейщие видосики что ты снимал и снимаешь. Надеюсь, ты еще доооолго нас будешь радовать качественным каналом:)
Not to shill my GameSmashDash Newgrounds art but personally; for my sci-fi art I choose a theme/ style that fits what I'm going with. I cringe at the "caution tape" as such art for sci-fi because it looks bland and generic; for a Spaceship pixel art I made it where the dark blue and yellows used to make the ship feel, like a different alien race came in and put their own work together. Then again my sci-fi art was inspired by MegaManX8 so take my advice with a grain of salt.
nice to see you posting again!
Everyone in the comments said it better then me or said what i was gonna say. Thank you as always alex
so basically become an mechanical engineer
Where did the ocean game go it looked cool? Are you still working on it?
Honestly, if you tell me to model something like a submarine from the fifties, then I do "bolts in every corner", but if you tell me futuristic or sci fi, I aim for "you will never find the access panel".. As for greebles, if I don't know what function it would serve then I just don't add it, simple as that.. as for your tangents rant, I have OCD when I comes to geometric shapes and symmetry, offsetting a line is out of the question, same for any misaligned diagonals..
Nice
Alex, this is one of the best videos on the subject of design that I've ever seen. The fact that you gave so many examples and even did a few brief overpaints made a huge difference for my understanding. Thank you for sharing some of your observations and experience! I will make sure to check out the resources you linked!
i love how much explanation @ 39:00 relies on intuition
What a hidden gem!
love that boolean workflow. thanks Alex!
Thanks brother, u are the best teacher of melodies
As a mapper - This is INCREDIBLE. he talks at a pro mapper pace - unlike other videos where they talk at one word per second slow. This is #1 ever mapper needs to watch this no matter what engine - currently I'm making q2rtx close to ue5 (purist mapper - raw brushes) However this is best vid to explain simple geo yet get the effect. I could expond upon a lot but yea - he nailed this demo. Very GG and I learned a lot.
thank you
Fun ^_^
LOOOL was the best XDD thank u!! this is the future!!!
excuse me do u have the video about sppeed the edge loop procesS? 5:31
