Build. Break. Fix. Repeat... Jeep owner & photo/video enthusiast. I make videos about anything Jeep related: trail rides, my CJ5 Project, upgrades to my TJ, and more.
ThatJeepAdventure started as an Instagram account in Spring 2017. It was simply a place for me to post all of my ride photos so I could go space out on them when I was bored or wishing I was on the trail. Well, after a short time, it was apparent that I wasn’t the only one using my photos as a vice to get by until the next wheeling trip. The Instagram account quickly began to grow and now has a lot of fans.
With the growth of my Instagram and my love for video, it just made sense to combine these two hobbies. I quickly realized that I really enjoy KZread and the opportunity that it gives me to share my adventures and projects with other like minded people! I hope you enjoy following along. If you do, please subscribe to my channel. Cheers!

Another great video! What gears are you running in the white TJ? 4.88's?
It’s a 4cyl with 5.13s on 37s
@@ThatJeepAdventure Nice combo! No wonder it crawls so well.
Good to see Mississippi boys and girls getting it done! That white TJ is impressive. Was that yellow JK running 33's? My TJ has 35's and I was wondering if it was enough to go play out there.
Thanks! The Yellow JK is on 35s. There are plenty of places in Moab that your 33s would be enough. It’s a must do trip
@ThatJeepAdventure I'm currently on a 4" lift and 35"s. I need more skids before I head out there. East coast wheeling is more mud and roots and less rocks.
@@gorillahd9247 definitely. The Alabama parks are where we mostly ride
@@ThatJeepAdventure I was raised in Mississippi. Halfway between Picayune and Poplarville. Did 13.5 years in Gulfport before I moved to Maryland for work.
@@gorillahd9247 haha. I live in Lumberton
Great content thumbs up
Have you ever put Yj leafs under a cj5
Yes. Had one that ran stock YJ leafs that was spring over. Then moved it to the 1” SOA YJ springs
Hey Matt, I haven't seen you in a while on FB either. You ought to be recording your new build on the TJ! It's good to see you again!
I’m still here. Started a business a little over a year ago and had to take a break from the channel. Should be able to start making videos again once I get these control arms I’ve been waiting on to finish the build. Thanks for the message!
Same question here. Is this kit still available?
A oficina do meu primo e especializada em mecânica desses veículos e eu amo os campeonatos. ❤
Do you still have the cable system???
You can clearly talk perfectly fine, just pause, don’t “umm” lol
Lol. This video was way back. I have mostly overcome this now. When you first start talking in front of the camera, it’s intimidating
Awesome video as always! Some of that looks so scary and very sketchy! Great job guys!
I have 2.5 MJ, so this is super interesting!
Making some HUGE changes now and keeping the 2.5 also. Another walk around coming soon.
Does anyone use central tire inflation? Guys I watched in Arizona would let air out of their tires for more traction
We run low psi also. The CJ runs around 3 psi and the others without beadlocks run around 12

Enjoyed the video but I cannot find this kit anywhere. Is it still available?
Nice job. I’m working on prepping/pumping myself up to do a restoration on a ‘78 with a 304. I just need to start with a new chassis. It was bent from a previous owner/lifetime racing. I’ve tried having it unbent by 3 different businesses but it has never truly worked. Just need to bite the bullet for a new frame.

Bro, talk much...? Jeeez
Looks like my garage…. Jeep parts everywhere and no room to work…😂
Matt. Thanks for the videos. I have a cj5 1980. Looking for some help. Would you recommend buying new tub or trying to fix and weld it. Thanks
Tons and 43’s??
Haha negative. Keeping the JK44s. Just stretching the rear some. Sticking with the 37s at this point too
What happened to it? Did it break on a trail?
Wheeled for a full day with no issues. Coming back into the parking lot off the main road I went to pull it out of 5th gear and put it in 3rd and it didn’t want to come out of 5th. Gave it a little pressure and it went to neutral. Guessing a shift fork is bound up or broken because the shift won’t move forward or back at all. Basically stuck in neutral
Don't worry ...its a jeep, you'll get used to breaking down.
Lol that’s what 250k hassle free miles on a transmission gets ya. I’ll call it a good run
Sometimes it be like that
😮
Far more sketchy than the drop into Rubicon Ridge.
Haha definitely so. Rubicon Ridge was backed up so we dropped down this way. It was my first time going that way and I was not expecting that 😂
how much was the roof rack
I think I had maybe $400 in it. Can’t remember since it’s been so long. Lots of hours wrapped up in it too
That's some awesome stuff! I'm a MS guy too (central). Came across your channel looking for MS Jeeps and then to top it off it looks like you've been to Moab a time or two, which is a dream for me and my TJ. You've inspired me! Keep up the good work. And BTW, SMTTT 😆
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. Hotty Toddy!! 🤣
Keep us up on the build I have a 78 CJ 5 and CJ 7
Basically worked out all the kinks and it’s just been sitting. Getting rid of it soon actually and going to build the TJ a bit more. I’ll still be able to get footage of it with its new owner though!
George talks like Robert Duvall. Lol
You would actually need a calendar for the 1/2 mile 😂
🤣🤣
My 2001 TJ SE does well on the highway and off road with 235/75-15 (29”) tires and 4.10 gears. For technical stuff, low range isn’t low enough for my taste (with 5 speed) but is doable. If anyone plans on getting 30” tires or larger, and intend to go off road, RE-GEAR IT. Even then I don’t think you’ll be happy with it on the highway, the 2.5L is a bit of a dog. Plus, if you retain the Dana 35, as you go up in gear ratio the ring and pinion teeth get smaller and smaller; very weak (super 35 kit won’t help). Now, this setup of mine allows me to crawl over obstacles rather than have to dump the clutch and smash the throttle. For technical areas I do have to get on and off the clutch more than I’d like, but I can’t afford a 4:1 transfer case either. 🤷♂️
4.88 works well for 33-35s with the 2.5s. I just installed a weighted flywheel when I did my clutch a couple weekends ago. It’s a solid upgrade. It holds speed much better on the highway. Haven’t had it in low yet but supposedly it’s a big gain there too. Maybe check that out. My 5:1 Atlas showed up a couple weeks ago too. Gonna tear the Jeep down in January to stretch it and get the atlas installed. Between the weighted flywheel, 5.13s, and 5:1 tcase, it should give me the power I need to turn 40s 🤘🏽. It probably won’t love it going down the road but it pulls the 37s I have now and still retains a bunch of 5th gear
Man such a good trip.
Nice rig! I run my hi-lift on the hood. It is a bit awkward to get to, but not ridiculous. I think the placement makes me consider all other options (that are likely safer) before I pull it off the hood 😂
Really like your videos and have watched several of them lately. But, in my opinion too much music and too loud. I would rather hear the tires squealing, engines and spotting being given. Just my opinion. Great camera work! Thank you.
When is the CJ project coming back?
It’s has been sitting and feeling abandoned in the shop. Life comes at you fast and I had to put on it on the back burner for a bit while I worked on other project and most recently started a new business. Hoping to get some time back in my life in 2024 🤘🏽

Well that’s freaking cool! I wanna see more
This was just an awesome video! Driving at the bottom that Canyon at around 10:21 was just amazing. In two years with my kids get a little bit older I want to rent a camper and take them out west. The farthest I’ve ever been is Texas. Awesome video as always!
Thank you! It is great out there. Amazing views every time you make a turn.
That view out the driver side @20:15 looked 😳 as did @23:22.
It’s extremely intimidating coming up to that edge on No Left Turn. It’s like straight down every direction lol
Sht. It's not a drag engine.
Lol… well, it does feel like it’s dragging an anchor
What ended up being the problem? It seemed the ram was the issue. Was that the end, or was there more to it? I didn't see an update 🤔
Ended up being that the new PS pump was bad
Lil 2.5 putting in some work! Love it
Doing what she can! Lol
Next time you come to Hawk Pride, holler. I'll get my 97 TJ out.
Do you know of any place where I can get the lever and its components?
You look crazy identical to Uriah Faber lol
Haha. I get that and Anthony Kiedis a lot
Hilarious!!
How long did you spend in Moab?
6 days of riding both times we went… then 2-3 days each way to get out there
Pucker factor went up! That drop off to the driver side (off camera) from your full video was steep and long enough for several rolls. 😬
Yeaaaa….. it didn’t feel so hot lol
i didn't know they let people with cerebral palsy record videos good for you bud LOL!
Lol… I prefer to have my gimbal and tripod, but with space issues and fragile equipment that’s not always possible in the Jeep.
Nice
rocker knocker looks intense
It honestly wasn’t as bad as I expected. I know things can go wrong there though, so maybe it was just our guide that helped out 😂
