I love these older homes. The craftsmanship and design surpasses the modern ones. Thank you for sharing your home and expertise.

Interesting to see the large lamp, I have a couple of the smaller ones, one having the fuel tank at the side, a Butterfly Downward Lamp, and a Peacock Lamp, what is the brand of the large lamp with the annular fount? Thanks😊

saw a movie back in probably the 80s (probably JPN made) where an American stayed w/ a Japanese family after his plane crashed... they had a single-user bath of wood seemingly a bit taller and more boxy than these with a wood-fed stove below the seat portion

Awesome. I am also astounded by the all-consuming nature of the smart phone. I work in university and students will sit beside each other and never make iContact or talk with each other an entire semester. They don’t even know the names of the people next to them. And of course, this means they’re missing out on making the great of connections of their life. Of course, it’s not confined the classroom. Between classes and across campus and when they get into their cars or get on the bus to go home, many are oblivious to the world they physically in. Anyway, it’s great to see you on the bike. It looks like fun.

This is excellent. I share your disdain for the hideous modern Japanese lighting. It confuses me that people don’t see how terrible it is. I intend to replace as much of the lighting I can in our kominka in the next year or so. Beyond, say the Kyoto antique market, where would you recommend I look for these older lights?

Ok let me say this.. the guest house looking that maculate! Its breathtaking! Honestly the Cuda (How closed captioning is spelling it) I'd love to have a simple home built like that. Each one of these homes has great appeal. So detailed and always a REASON to be made the way they are.
The property and the houses are beautiful, but damn I seriously wish he knew more about it. I wanted to know more about the functions of the rooms, the history of the family or entity that owned it, who built it, the architectural designs, who that man is in the giant portrait, the meaning behind some of the decorations. Dude's just fumbling through the property making guesses about what's what.

この屋敷の格式はそれほど高くない。柱が細すぎるし、柱の材質が柾目でない。天井が低すぎる。柱に釘隠しなどの装飾がぜんぜん無い。
