    Why does the coolant get inside the harness?

  • @all-about-cars-basics
    @all-about-cars-basics2 күн бұрын

    This is a very good question. Normally it is not supposed to do that. But when it does it is because the coolant temperature sensor within the housing leak internally, allowing coolant to enter the harness connector.

    I don’t recommend a DIY use power tools on their car. Too easy to cross thread. And you need to pay attention to the torque so you don’t break the treads in you engine, so look that up before tightening. The other caution is that not everything is shown in this video: - removing the plastic rivets is a separate skill and there are videos on that alone. - the mechanic cut the scene for popping off the coil wires. Like the plastic rivets, this too is another skill with KZread videos on the right way to do that without breaking you coil couplers. (It’s tricky.) - he didn’t show how he cleaned up the valve cover. I suggest use a putty knife to get the old seal off. - he didn’t show how to get the new seal seated (and adhered) to the valve cover. I’m not sure on this, in the old days we used a gasket sealant on the cover to stick the cover and gasket together so that things hang together when the cover is turned upside down. We also put sealant on the gasket’s surface that meets the engine. You’ll need to look into this as I don’t know the modern way. (When working on the second cover, I can now see he doesn’t use any sealant so maybe the cover hangs there by friction with the screws.) The rest of the video looked great.

    Hi this is unrelated because I cannot find any videos. Do you know how many and location is the knock sensor? I got a drivetrain malfunction and this code popped up. They’re making me replace the whole dme but it’s just the knock sensor code that popped up.

  • @all-about-cars-basics
    @all-about-cars-basics6 күн бұрын

    Knock sensor is usually under the intake manifold on the B48 engine. I recently posted a video on a B46 engine X3 on how to replace oil cooler housing. If you go under the car, you may notice it. It may be hard at times to see it because the oil cooler housing is on it's way.

  • @gabriellusung6804

    @@all-about-cars-basics thank you. Do you know if it’s accessible on the bottom without taking the manifold off? And do you think that this drivetrain malfunction will be fixed if the knock sensor code is the only code?

  • @can_opener755

    ...Yikes, could be a couple things. Head gasket is obviously one, but it is rare for head gaskets to fail on the 112/113 engine platform. It could also be the oil cooler causing potential cross-contamination. That being said, if there is coolant in the oil, there is a decent chance of oil also making its way into the coolant.
