Hello, I thought I would share this space to add a few videos on how to sew, refashion and save money doing so. Sewing has really caught on as a hobby but it can be expensive where once it was the ideal way to save money, well I hope to change that so come back regularly. I will aim to make videos using recycled materials, scraps and offcuts here when I can but if you wish to see something specific please let me know. Please be patient with me , my passion is sewing not film making! Here's to improvement.
I also design handbags, all unique and vegan and they can be found at

I’ve had this book on my bookshelf for so long and just never had the confidence to make anything. However, I picked it up the other day as I am only 5’2 I am finding it harder than ever to find clothes to fit me. I wanted to make a dress and through searching found your amazing videos! This is the second one I’ve watched now and I am brimming with confidence at giving it a go. My fabric arrives tomorrow, so now the hardest thing will be to choose which dress to make! I was set on the Lilou, but now seeing this one, I’m not so sure! Thank you so much for your video, I shall give this one a go and then hopefully be back for more inspiration!
Hi Diane are you available to help
Hi ive just watched your lovely video...im in the process of understanding the pattern for this skirt...i am a size 8 waist...size 6 hips ( on finished measurements guide)...as the skirt is very a line and you took the sides in, i feel this is something id need to do as dont like anything too wide...can you advise me as regards pattern cutting... should i just cut size 8 to make toile then taper in the sides? I cant seem to get my head around it 😅 thanks Diane
@@jenniferbake5073 hi there, yes that would be best. Make it up, try on and pin the sides then mark with chalk for your new stitching line. It is very a - line so you have lots to play with. Have fun.
I like the fine fabric.
Thank you for using scraps! All the tutorials I’ve seen use new square pieces of fabric
Love the color. Thank you for the tutorial.
Love the cardi. What undies pattern are you going to make? Love your videos
Hi there, I made the acia knickers and my own pattern too. Do you know I now post videos at Beyond the Sewing Room.😊
@@diannessewingroom7 yes, I've watched you over thereñ
I love this sew along! I’m going to make this cardigan this weekend. Thank you.
Thanks for this tutorial. I’m about to start this one. X
Great tutorial, you make it look so easy! I have found it difficult making sure I gather the skirt to the size of the waistband!
I’ve just made the Marlo cropped sweater as well. I made it in a wool double jersey and it’s come out very cosy. Thanks for your tips. I’m going to try the longer sleeve version now.
Thats great, have fun☺
I absolutely loved this video and got some great tips from you. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thanks Dianne!
Thank you glad you enjoyed it.
Love the fabric you are wearing, I know it’s from minerva but May I ask what it’s called? Also, if you ever get chance to show how you do your eyelets that would be a great help! Many thanks
Love the details you added on your sweatshirt!! And the neck…it’s more of a design element one would find in expensive clothes, but I understand your discomfort. I like it and I would wear it. Thanks for your recap on the knickers too.
Thank you😊
Does this have a close resemblance to the Zadie jumpsuit?
Hi Dianne, newbie sewer here. This video is also helpful for making LONGER/DEEPER pockets. Your adding the colorful binder adds a nice touch. I probably won't. ha ha
Glad it was helpful 😊
Can you please advise where did you get the fabric from to make this Freya dress and what kind of fabric is it please?
Hi the fabric is jersey and it is from minerva.com
Thank you for this, really enjoyed your tutorial, the dress looks fabulous on you
Thank you so much!
👏🏻👗
Darling sweater!!!
Nice job, Diane! Thank you!❤
Thanks for the videos 🤩
I have Basic Black, I like Japanese pattern books. You are right about the sizing, Japanese ladies have a slight figure ( mostly) and a short upper torso and longer lower body. All you need to do is run a tape measure over the pattern and make adjustments. Another thing to rember, no Sean allowance so add one when cutting!
Inspirational. Thank you.
Thank you for a lovely clear video!
Thank you. Do you know I have moved to here... kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html
Thank you so much
Hello! Thanks for your video! Do you need to use the same sort of fabric for the new pocket piece? For example, I have a satin pocket, can I use a light weight twill?
Hi, i would say you can use whatever you have to hand as long as it is not a heavy fabric under a light one. ☺
Did you lengthen your Greta dress? It’s really cute.
I did yes, sorry I took so long to reply. I have moved to here...kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html
I just purchased this pattern and it arrived last week. I'm looking forward to trying the shorter length. Thank you so much fir the wonderful tips and inspiration!
Hi, have fun with it and thank you for commenting. ☺️
Lovely video. Feel I can now go ahead. I have pattern and fabric ready. Is the pattern true to size? As the fabric is stretch jersey should I go for one size smaller as I want it to fit, not be baggy. Thanks.
It is meant for stretch jersey style fabrics and I found it true to size. ☺️
What type of elastic did you use? I tried to use 1 inch wide knitted elastic but it was so strong and stiff and difficult to feed through the casing.
mine was 1 cm wide, did you use a bodkin or large safety pin to feed it through? Try making your channel a little bigger too next time . i hope that helps. Do you know I have moved to here...kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html
I used a safety pin. Thank you for the updated link.
Superstar :) can’t wait to repair the pocket on my favourite suit. When I wear it at work at the moment, things disappear into the trouser leg like I’m some sort of magician. I’m new to sewing with a machine but this looks like the sort of repair I can manage. can I ask, what does the zigzag stitch do?
Hi oh good give it a try. The zig zag stitch will stop raw edges fraying out. Also if you make it very sma and narrow it is a good stretch stitch. 😊
Hi Diane I’ve cut out my pieces but on the front bodice there is a 1” piece coming out of the top, do I use that as part of the neck or do I sew it in the side seam.?
Hi sew it in the seam, sorry I took so long to respond as I have moved to here... kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html
Hi Dianne, Just found your chanel,I'm also in the UK, Love all your tops, i upcycle my jumpers and sew most of my clothes - also started to make my own patterns from RTW that i had, Thanks Elaine
Oh that is super, thank you. do you knoe I have moved to here... kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html
A lovely video, such a calming voice.
Thank you, I have moved to here... kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html
I have your exact sewing machine! I only began sewing in March and have followed you on several of the Tilly patterns. I am learning to see by all 3 Tilly books. I have not tried any of the stretch fabric patterns from her books yet. I am sooo nervous! What width/setting of zigzag stitch did you use, since we have the same machine? I would love to know!
Hi, ooh how exciting you will enjoy it. Turn down to 0.5 and reduce the stitch length too. I have moved channel to here... kzread.info/dron/3lcbQSv7FxVPUNnThyiZNQ.html sorry I didn't see this to respond until now.
Good sewing tutorial very clear and concise instructions. I’ve been wanting to make the Joni for a long time but didn’t quite understand the instructions in the book. I have all three of the Tilly books and I’m always reading and learning from them.
Hi I'm glad you found it helpful. 😊
What a gorgeous dress 🤩
Thank you. ☺️
@@diannessewingroom7 So talented. I’m hoping to take up sewing in a few months time once we’ve moved house and I actually have a craft room so in the meantime, I’m trying to gain some knowledge by watching videos 😊
@@user-hv4sn6up2s that's great, i hope I am a help. ☺️ I have started a new channel called Beyond the Sewing Room so all my new content is going on there.
Love this blouse, I’ve got the book and really must try it. Do you think you could make it without the buttonholes and slip over your head x
Thank you. Probably yes it's quite loose, then you could always add a small side zip if you want it fitted.
Lovely.
Everything is very nice!
Thank you so much ☺️
Nice!
Love your sewing makes and that lovely top your wearing. What pattern is it pls?
Hi There, thank you its the Style Arc Teddy designer top. Please check out my new channel if you haven't already. www.youtube.com/@Dianne-ut5vr
It looks lovely. Would you have any tips for adding a drawstring waist instead of the elastic and if you make the long trousers, can you still add the pockets in? Your sew alongs are so useful and step by step. Thank you.
Thank you. Just add button holes to thread a drawstring through a casing. Yes you can have long trousers and pockets.
I just typed it in and there it was! Will follow you anywhere Dianne x
Hi Merylee, thank you 😊
There still no link and Ihave searched too
Hi Valerie. Try this link kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZGunmdePds2cm9Y.html the link is in the video description below the video but if you are watching on a mobile phone I know that is sometimes hard to see. I did also add the link to my end screen,I wonder if that is not showing.
There is no link, I've searched for Beyond the sewing room and its not found.
Hi the link is just before the video finishes on screen and in the description below.
Do you have anyplace you can purchase a peg board? That would help with so many organizational needs. They aren’t very expensive and you can spray paint them to match and pick up some hooks to hold sewing accessories. Your room is very organized I must say!
Hi Deb, that is a great idea I have seen them and I know a lot of people use them. Have a great day. ☺
Thanks so much for sharing the bra shelf I think it’s Genius and I shall be trying it 👍👍🥰
Hi Jane, thank you I'm glad you found it useful☺
👏👏👏. What an awesome idea. Thank you so much for sharing this technique❤😊
Hi Brenda, thank you I am glad you like it.☺
