The Babe Ruth comparison is ridiculous. Just because Ohtani hits & pitches good doesn't make him another Ruth. Ohtani hits for power but if he dominated like Ruth did against everyone else Ohtani would have to hit 100 hr's a year to be set apart like Ruth was. Ruth hit consistently for high average well into the mid & high 300's including 5 times 372 to 378 & a 393 not far from 400. Ohtani is only now barely over 300 & the seasons not over. Maybe he'll maintain. And pitching wise Ruth was considered the best Lefty of his time. Is Ohtani the best Righty now? & when Ohtani sets hitting & pitching records that last several decades like Ruth then let's talk about him being another Ruth. Ohtani is great but let's not get carried away just yet. Everybody calm down. And I do like him but come on.

Why is martin dihigo never talked about man… he played every single position and even got the batting title and the equivalent of the cy young in the same season in the mexican league back when negro players couldn’t play in the mlb… along with also being the only baseball player in history to be in 5 different countries halls of fame (usa,mexico,cuba,dominican republic and venezuela) which is mind blowing in my opinion… most definitely extremely underrated

Agree 100%. They played honestly in 2022 and won. Their hitting was 40 points lower than 2017, but they played honestly, and deserved to win. In 2017 on the other hand, they cheated "throughout the postseason". See, MLB Report on Astros Cheating, page 3 para. 2. So 2017 is just something that should be buried. An embarrassment for this proud franchise. 2017 is something to be proud of. They weren't cheating - they hit nearly 40 points lower than the cheating 2017 team, but they played great baseball and had magnificent pitching. The probably even studied scouting reports on opposing pitchers! They didn't have to do that in 2017.

They’re only great if you’re an Astros fan. Every other fan views them as cheaters. All players of every other team views them as cheaters also. If Houston ever wins a World Series without cheating, people will still view them as cheaters and they have nobody to blame but themselves. They made their own bed, they’re gonna have to sleep in it. The truth will inevitably be impossible to ignore, nearly every team in the league was stealing signs with a camera. Astros, Yanks, and Sox are the only ones to get caught, but there’s been many players and front office employees who have said it was widespread. Nonetheless, Astros to their 6th straight ALCS!

Even if you steal a sign, you still gotta hit the ball, It's all BS! Every team steals signs, the Yankees are the worst. It's been this way since the beginning of baseball, the only reason it's a big deal is because they are hated. No way a small market team should win the world series. If it had been the Yankees it would have been swept under the rug and you would have heard nothing about it.

It's frustrating that the whole scandal happened. But common sense, looking at numbers, just minutes of research can actually show it wasn't the scandal that everyone made it out to be. It feels more like it's used as an excuse more than anything else. It's also funny how other teams cheated but nobody cares because they didn't have the actual talent to drive them to win.

I think part of the reason for the 2020 drop off was all the attention from the sign stealing issue was just coming to light. It had to have been a bit of a weight on their shoulders.

My issue is that every team cheats. Regardless of what you want to say every single baseball team has cheated. And only when the astros are called out do people begin to think about it. You mention it to any other team and they’d be offended at your accusation. You boo the astros players. Then when they leave off free agency and join another team they are cheered and loved. What is always left unspoken, and I think is kind of important to the story, is that Fiers was smashed for 9 earned runs, including 5 home runs, in 1 inning of baseball on September 9, 2019...Two months later the report comes out from The Athletic with Fiers as their main source. He benefited from it, got a ring from it, got AT LEAST several hundred thousand dollars from the WS bonus, made millions, at least in part, due to his time with the Astros, but then got his feelings hurt and only then did he expose it. It doesn't excuse what the Astros did, but fuck Mike Fiers too.
