The Greek Freak, is a nickname, that came out the first years that Giannis played in the NBA and people couldn't pronounce his name yet. At first they called him the Greek Alphabet, but then, his performances, his body growth etc , were the reason people begun to call him the Greak Freak!

Nice video man, congrats! You got a few things wrong (you missed the fact that Giannis called Greece home and adopted the Greek culture even before receiving the citizenship, or that he started playing soccer and the specific Greek coach spotted him and Thanasis and invited them to try out basketball, and while he didn't initially accept it, he was convinced to join just one b-ball practice and he immediately fell in love with it), but other than that, great stuff! Thank you, appreciate it! I knew he identified as Greek, just wanted to point out the fact that he was viewed as an outsider to some because of his family's immigrant status, and that he technically didn't have an official citizenship until he was 18 (crazy to think about!) But the story of how he started basketball I hadn't heard of. When researching for this video I read that he went straight to basketball. So thanks for clarifying that, just makes his story even more incredible!

Oh for sure! His drive and work ethic got him to where he's at in basketball. But it's also his off-the-court characteristics and intangibles that make him such a great guy. How can you not root for a man like him?
