I have had a terrible experience with Freestyle Libre 2. It went dead after 24 hours, and when I contacted them, they said this product should never be recommended for pets, and they would not replace it. Below is their customer Service Message: "We are sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused, however the Freestyle Libre 2 system is only approved for human use. It has not been evaluated for use on animals. Hence, use of the Freestyle Libre 2 system on animals is not covered by warranty and will not be subject to replacement. Furthermore, we highly recommend you to get in touch with the vet for alternative way of glucose monitoring for your pet. - Diana E. Abbott FreeStyle"

Freestyle has not approved it for pets - these are made for humans. They have saved my kitty's life, as she has an unusual glucose pattern and thin rolly veins (like me!) that make blood draws near impossible.

I am a diabetic myself (type one) and I have been on the dexcom CGM for years now. I recommend to my local vet to try this, he has never heard of it. My diabetic dog now has it on her. My question is, are there alternative locations for placement, such as the stomach? Can you give a recommendation on the medical skin adhesive, how to remove it after the 14 days, and a good shaver to get a really good close shave? The ones that are sold at petsmart, Walmart, etc all seem to do a really bad job, any type better over another? Not sure if you have the name of a good grooming shaver? Thanks!!

My Australian Shepherd is very clever and can remove the sensor no matter where the tech puts it. Yes, I agree, the tissue glue is dangerous and many say NOT to use it. But the vet does. My Aussie has removed his after 4 or 5 days. Many times. I’m throwing money away, too. Maybe because his very thick fur grows in??? I’m paying $77 for a sensor and $15 more for a tech to apply it. Sometimes the sensor just stops working. We are afraid to just “GUESS” how much insulin to give. His dose is 8 or 4 units. Well, how are we supposed to know which it is? We are supposed to skip if it’s too low. Again. Just guess?? I think not. Somehow, this sensor has to stay on. It came off today, day 5, and I haven’t removed the glue yet. He is scratching it like crazy so I’m going to get my GooGone Adhesive Bandage remover before he brings blood to the surface. We are in San Antonio and it gets HOT. SO a T-shirt is probably not going to be a choice. If anyone has an idea, please let us know. Thank you. Very cute doggie!

Sounds like your vet is using a surgical glue which tears the skin off when removed. Surgical glue is meant to hold the skin together when an animal has surgery so it is extremely strong and should not be use for the application of a Libre. Skin Tac is what should be used because it is not so strong that it will rip their skin off when the sensor is removed. By ripping the skin you open up the skin leaving it exposed for dirt and germs to grow. The libre installed with Skin Tac can be safely removed with Brava adhesive remover which you can get from Amazon. Brava will dissolve the glue of Skin Tac and it won't be painful to your pet

Our cat had a rash in the same area, so we need to move it each time. Also our cat's hair grew quickly through the glue pad in 2 weeks, so just peeling off is not an option. We needed to gently use 'safe' oneisall animal clippers to very slowly cut the hair between the pad and the skin. For us installing is far easier than removing. We might try no additional dermal glue on future attempts, but sensors are expensive...

I am using the FSL for my diabetic cat. Are FSL values the same in a cat as in a human? With normal blood glucose meters, depending on which animal you are measuring for, the device must be calibrated by means of a chip (e.g. Wellion Vet Belua or GlucoCalea). Are the values - as they are output - correct and representative for a cat? I have researched some, but find only studies concerning the duration of use and skin compatibility. Do you have any further information on this?

U put the back of the phone towards the sensor. He shows it by doing front of the phone. We have ours set to vibrate once then to make a beep and then the reading pops up on phone. I am using a cheap Android phone so that my husband and I don't have to use our note 20 ultras and we always pass it to one another for whichever one of us is at home and will be doing the readings. It's so nice because it sends all readings to our vet via email and she gives us recommendations and just monitors our dogs glucose patterns

This works with androids as well. My dachshund has one and it has been fantastic and I wish they had it 5.5 years ago which is when my dog was diagnosed w diabetes. Saves us from having to stick him to check his sugar levels because it would break our hearts to be poking him. If you have the means to buy this device for your dog it's 65.00 and will be so so much easier and no guess work about your animals glucose levels at any given time. U won't regret getting it!!

Hi Nice video. I saw on FB where many people mentioned about Ambrosia's Blucon Nightrider which they are using on their pet on top of the Libre sensor. Beware lot of sensors are faulty and give a very low result for eg it will show you a normal fasting level of 5 when it is actually 8. You need to test it with the finger prick meters to be sure. I had reduced my medications due to this and was shocked when my HBA1c results came much higher. I am using this for the last couple of years (spent thousands of dollars on this) and have decided to discontinue using it.
