Gave them the benefit of the doubt and used the stock shocks for two years. If you bash hard they will break no matter what you do to them. Switched to traxxas maxx shocks and never had a problem again.
Best rc truck ever built finally got the history behind it 😊😊 thank you for sharing 🙏 always been my childhood dream truck and put mine on display since 2006
Top tips! Thanks man. Love your experience with theses and cost effective methods of improvement. It’s slowed me down buying bing parts unnecessary 😂
Glad I could help.
I had no idea who I was talking to. 🙇♂🙇♂🙇♂ I like thinking outside the box too! I just want you to know I did a single motor conversion for my Juggernaut. It's the first ever video I uploaded. 😅
Thank you for sharing! I'm late for the party... would you please explain why you went with lower weight fluid in the center and rear diff than stock?
It was something I was trying out. A lighter fluid in the center diff will allow the truck to turn better. I tone the power down when it comes to racing so I figured the diff wouldn't bleed power to the front axle because of that. Turns out that the truck didn't like the lighter fluid and bleed too much power to the front axle. After several races and adjustments, I found that 1 million weight in the center diff is best.
@@hetmanskihobbies does the rear diff still have lighter fluid than the front? I thought you’d want lighter fluid in the front to let it slip a little than lock it to turn better?
@@galkawarrior The rear still has 50k but I went to 200k in the front. The thicker front fluid reduces off power steering and helps reduce the diffing out that you see in shaft driven vehicles. Another thing I found while racing the truck was that it has way too much off power steering for my driving style so the reduction is a good thing. When the diff bleeds power in the front axle, it goes to the tire with the least grip and that will cause the truck to pull to that side when accelerating.
@@hetmanskihobbies thank you, it makes sense for what you’re doing. It makes it more front wheel drive then right? And reduces the wheelie and torque twist. I don’t have an LMT, yet, but I’m trying to get ideas on what to do with my Tamiya Juggernaut. 😅
@@galkawarrior No, a center diff with thicker fluid provides more equal power to the front and rear axles. It also increases the truck's ability to wheelie and torque twist. You can reduce the wheelie tendency by lowering the rear upper link and using the speed control/radios settings to tone the power down. You can reduce the torque twist by stiffening the sway bar.
Holy crap i remember greg vogal!! I believe I had 1 of the first issues of car action.
Hey man the diff shims at the end of the video what size are they? I seem to have lost or broke my shims and am getting a grinding now in the rear… are they the LOS246004 ?
That's correct.
@@hetmanskihobbies thank you for the quick reply brother got it ordered
@hetmanskihobbies How many shims do I use? I'm not sure on it. Is it three on the ring gear side? Or four? I messed up putting mine back together and I have mine all open currently.
@@MasonsLegoGarage The truck should have three shims altogether on the stock diff. Found between the bearing and differential. I have one shim on the diff housing side and two on the gear side.
@hetmanskihobbies Thank you. I want just the most gear mesh and the least grinding. I'm not racing just bashing. What would you do for bashing?
There are stil in Productions?
No
@@hetmanskihobbies i see on eBay, but the price is so high..
Trying to figure out why anyone would race this particular setup? It seems like its not built for speed or stability, more of a fun truck not for competetion. Is that why you did it...for the challenge?
It looks like you didn’t pay attention to the video.
Thanks for sharing! I bought mine while working at beatties (remember them?) Ive been steadily modifying it ever since as its so heavy but still having fun with it 25 years on 😊
Thank you!
i’m in Ct. can you build me a race version?
No.
Would love an update on this! 😁🤘🏼
Why do you prefer 2S over 3S? Also 1 of the shocks doesn’t compress to the bump stop. Why would that happen?
2S makes the truck easier to drive. A lot of people don't understand that more torque and power isn't a good thing in most situations. I run a lower torque motor that has a high RPM and the taller gearing that I run also helps reduce torque and "increase grip". When a shock won't compress it's usually because the shock is over full with oil and or the shock shaft is bent.
This is a nice build. Nice call on the slide carb.
OMG AHHHHHH is that a TXT-1 in the background! Im so jealous!
My 2nd favourite nitro platform of all time! been workin on my raminator lately to get it back up to snuff. Any ideas on where in the heck im gonna find an origanl losi raminator body? It HAS to match my mini lst raminator!
3.5R makes me think this is a .21ci nitro! Theres no sound! Bring back the nitros!
Try weaker clutch springs
I have the softest springs available on there now.
That's all good and fine. What's the technique for a lot of shocks that do not have a bleeder hole for both styles?
You just build it accordingly.
@@hetmanskihobbies That's not an answer. That's like teaching a kid how to swim buy just throwing him in the water and telling him to swim.
@@skipmiller8309 that is an answer. The video clearly shows you how to bleed each style of shock. If you have a bladder shock you build it one way and if you have an emulsion style shock, you build it the other way.
Thank you!
Love this beast!!!! Can't wait for more builds. Amazing work
Were you the guy in the wagon behind the monster pirate in rc car action
That would be me.
@@hetmanskihobbies so awesome, I have been into RC trucks for 25years had years of issues of magazines and your testing was always my favorite part. Thank you for all you have done for our hobby. It's awesome to talk to you. Hope you have a great day
@@hetmanskihobbies I had that picture on my wall when I was a teenager LoL
Sweet rig. That chassis looks great!😎
Boy o boy.. I sure wish losi would bring these back
Would have been great to get some info on the different characteristics of bladder vs emulsion builds.
Here’s the easy answer…….you’ll never notice the difference.
The paint job came out great. The colors work well together. A real work of art. Absolutely perfect design.
That’s a cool LST. Awesome story!
Kevin... You are an icon in the industry. You have been since forever... and what I like about you is how you treat something you make, almost like a model for a 1:1 scale machine. You really, really put thought into things. Other projects of yours remind me of what might be more of an experiment... or doing something just to see if you could do it. (aka your custom built nitro crawler from a 2008 RC Car Action I have) I like your one-off things and especially the nitro/real-engine projects. Just like there is a niche for custom computer builders that cnc their own parts...from aluminum and plexiglass to make one of a kind things... you could also fill that niche. What I would like to see more than that is projects that are built by you with mostly readily available parts... but with the addition of some custom parts that are required to complete the build. I don't know if you are up to being in the custom parts business... but your parts would sell!!!! And there are custom part companies that now longer exist, like New Era...to name only one! You have to sell a kidney to buy a used Revo big block mount now! I think that seeing you offer up some of your creations in a way that another enthusiast could replicate would be a hit! In between this... product reviews of your choosing would also be cool. Like I have said... you are an icon in this industry. You are really limited by whatever you DO NOT want to do regarding KZread and/or your mechanical creations. I mean... maybe you would rather do gardening or metal sculpture instead of this!!!! I don't know!!! Really, though... the sky is the limit. You are at a master level in this field... and I believe that finding your niche is key. Especially if money is to be made 😊 ...Or... You could just do things at your leisure and only do this KZread thing when it strikes your fancy. No matter what... this industry is a better thing with you in it! Thanks for all you have done, and you still do!
Man! This is amazing!!! I have been a fan of yours for years! I like the outside of the box thinking... and the "I wonder if this will work?... I want to try it!" approach you have. This is an awesome story that somehow slipped by me! Thank you!!!
I have loved your custom builds for many years... especially the non-electric builds. I still have my copy of the nitro crawler you built, complete with a parts list so a person could recreate what you did. I miss your builds, Kevin! This one is insane... and NOT recreateable by anyone else! 😊
This is something I've been wishing hoping somebody would do sooner or later. Props man. Can't wait to see the finished truck.
This is just on another level!! Amazing build mate
Tip my 🎩 to you sir/ beauty at its finest
The LMT is my favorite platform, and this is the coolest project for it I've seen. Great stuff.
Amazing. Nice work Kevin!
What are the chances that you’ll begin producing conversion kits for the general public?
Slim to none.
@@hetmanskihobbies bummer. I’m sure that there would be a few people out there that would love to have a conversion like this. Electric is cool but the sound of a 2 or 4 stroke nitro is unmatched.
NIIIIICE 👌🏻
awesome build and looks awesome, subscribed new friend
I should have given you a time limit. 😉 But it was worth the wait. Great video bud!
Deadline???? Forgetaboutit.
@@hetmanskihobbiesWhat happened to monster truck racing though? They were all the rage in the early 2000s
Solid axle monster truck racing is bigger than ever. The trucks you may be referring to are the independent suspension monster trucks. Those classes have died. @@adtjtjdjsj
@@hetmanskihobbies Yes, I meant independent suspension monster trucks like the T-Maxx or Savage. Seems like the class died as quickly as it became popular
I admire the skill and passion involved in this build. Cool factor is off the scale.
Wow! Good job there. Really neat project. 👍🏽 cheers
This thing is so awesome
That’s pretty cool👍
This is really awesome. Looking forward to seeing more.
Wow! So glad I found your channel. Your a real legend, I salute you. Thank you for all you have done for the hobby.
Glad to have you. And thanks for the kind words.
Kev!!!! The RC truck guy,yes I rember you,and (rip) chris) so Kevin what do you think of the primal MT I'd love to see what you could do with it
On my LMT, the left front shock compresses completely when I drive in reverse, more than the right. I changed them to emulsion style and already tried swapping the left and right shock. The LMT is stock, except for the Treal sway bar and Demolisher tires. Could the sway bar be causing this? I don't think the shocks are the issue, as I swapped them from left to right and the problem persists.
The sway bars control the side-to-side motion of the chassis, not the shocks. Depending on how the shocks are mounted, they could add a little bit of support but it's not worth talking about. The driveshafts are what really causes the chassis to twist and depending on grip level, weight of the chassis and so on, the amount the chassis wants to twist can be more or less. I would check the sway bars on the truck to make sure they're working correctly. Sadly, most people change the stock sway bar which is a big mistake because the stock system is the most adjustable one around. You can change the end bar material, the end bar length, the end bar thickness and the list goes on. When you install an aftermarket sway bar (in this case) you actually limit the adjustability of the sway bar and therefore may not be able to manage chassis twist in some conditions. When it comes to the shocks.....Building the shocks with a bladder or emulsion style doesn't really change the feel of the shock. The difference there is that a bladder shock is always ready to go while an emulsion shock needs to be "worked" a little while before it has a consistent feel.
@@hetmanskihobbies Thank you for your detailed response :) If the problem persists after I rebuild it, I will change back to the stock sway bar. Alternatively, would it help to use a more flexible spring steel rod?
@@hansnsnananna3933 replace the stock end bars with music wire/spring steel. Make them a little longer than stock to give yourself more adjustment. Make them long and they will be softer and make them short and they will be stiffer. You can easily fine tune the length. Thicker bars will make it stiffer and thinner bars will make it softer.
Could you suggest a starting point for front, center, rear LMT diff fluid weights on a tight course with tall grass? I've seen front 80k, center 300k, rear 60k work fairly well, but im worried it may be too light in the center.
Start with stock and adjust as necessary. That’s what I would do.
Why don't you show these in action? Looks awesome but does it go...
Of course it goes. KZread isn’t something that’s a priority for me. I shoot what I can when I can. Getting some of these vehicles ready for an action vid and finding someone to help with that is more work than I care to do. This truck was featured in Car Action magazine two times. You can see it running there if you need to feed that need.
I'm not sure if you check these comments... but I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago... it's time to paint. How many cans of red did ya go through?
I really can’t remember. I think two.
