I love that you've revisited some oldies. Great to see you chaps 🤙🏼

The old one may have been a bad bottle.
Palates changed over time and so do mash bills over time. Then again they may have gotten better at distilling. It’s very possible. Enjoy!!
I suspect that they have changed the cuts in the spirit safe and earlier bottles had too much of the feints. I have the Conamara NAS, 10 and Cask Strength and they’re all nasty. So, while your whisky preferences probably did change the biggest difference is in the new bottles. Now I’m almost tempted to buy a new bottle and do a side by side.

My least favorite peated Irish Whiskey. So many other peated Irish Whiskeys out there. Shortcross, Killowen, WD O’Connell are all substantially better. Connemara is owned by Kilbeggan who is owned by Beam Suntory. The big brands like Connemara and Bushmills are still 40% abv, the independent brands are typically higher.
Its not amazing. But it is good enough and one of the cheapest peated drams around.
I like peat but I tried that stuff about 10 years ago and it was god awful.
When I get to the liquor store there are two bottles sitting next to each other one is 112.8 proof with 6, 8, and 12-year-old stocks for $51.99 and the other is 100 proof with between 8.5- and 9.5-year stocks and $59.99. The first one will always taste the same from bottle to bottle and the second one because of the nature (single barrel) of the beast may never taste the same from one bottle to the next you may love the one you have and dislike the next one? Obviously, I am referring to (first bottle) WT Rare Breed and (2nd) Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey. When I get to the register, I can't help but have WT Rare Breed in my hand.
😁🙌🏻🥃
Hmm, bad score from the past and low cost now.....could this help with current pricing? 😂
Ha. Not with us. We’ve got all the whisky we can handle. All on taste

All your experience, and you're still missing the clearly defined steps for revisiting a whiskey from a decade ago... "It's just a jump to the left And then a step to the right Put your hands on your hips You bring your knees in tight But it's the pelvic thrust That really drives you insane Let's do the Time Warp again Let's do the Time Warp again" 🤪
I had a bottle of this a few years back, and it had a very diesel fuel aroma, with a sweet but slightly thin palate.
Old Pulteney 12?
Seems like they toned down the peat on this. I remember when this first was released, I enjoyed it. But that was about 15 years ago.
It’s always been around 14ppm but it does drink like it’s higher. It’s too earthy for me
About the lack of peated notes, had the similar experience but it actually got more peaty over time, kind of unusual but it really showed up more after some oxidation.
Interesting. Looking forward to more peat
Wouldn't mind if you dummies stayed on the Irish whiskey for a bit. Maybe a Writers Tears drink through?
I liked the 12yo 👍 🇮🇪 From what I've read, they use peated barley from Scotland, they should use Irish barley.
My first bottle of the 12yo came in a wooden tube.
To kick up the peat, I would add a splash of Ardbeg 10.
Nice. I will do that. Bart
Guys if you want a nice Irish peated whisky try to find Midnight Silkie (Single Malt) or the blend Dark Silkie. Really nice, not too expensive, not to complex, but I find very enjoyable.
Sounds nice
Midnight Silkie and Dark Silkie are both far better than Connemara and higher abv
As a non peat head it's the perfect amount of peatiness for me, great introduction to anyone who doesn't like peat!
excellent!
Ahh yes this is brilliant guys - Jenna is a legend - we love this bottling! Brilliant video guys.
thanks Brendan!
Wow. Here I am - almost 11 years later. What a journey boys. Caol Ila 12 in the glass. Cheers to you. 🥃
haha! Thanks Roy! Seems like a long time ago, such newbies!
@@ScotchTestDummiesRoy needs to find his way to Kansas!! I think he would enjoy R&J’s.
Thank you guys for doing this!! And as a peat lover myself, I love ALL kinds of peat, not only the kind that punches me in the face!
Thanks Jenna! Always a pleasure!
Very cool, Jenna!. Speaking of SMWS, Jenna, and casks...Jean and I love that SMWS started a cask program.
you can buy a cask and share it with us!
Guys, last year a buddy of mine brought over a new eagle rare 10 and we compared it to my old eagle rare 10 handle that I have owned for over 8 years. There was no comparison. The older bottle seems like it much more lush and rich whiskey and the new bottle felt watered down in every way.
interesting, but also kind of expected. Keeping up with supply/demand usually sacrifices quality.
To much yelling.
lol. You like a whisper with your T?
Billy Walker may have rescued the juice he inherited by moving it to different casks!
indeed

Silence equals Yum Yum...complexity Complimentary goodness.
How does this compare with single malt scotch? Could you tell the difference tasted blind?
single malt irish and single malt scotch can be very much the same. This one blind you would not tell the difference.
Always like seeing reviews on the Irish whiskey, because I haven't found many I care for other than the Redbreast or Powers. I generally like Sexton for the budget friendly pour and that sets the bar pretty low IMO. Bart, not everyone likes the peat to punch them in the mouth and rip their tongue out. Sometimes a little is the prefect amount.
thanks Leeknowlton7303, and great point on the peat!

thanks yojimbo!
Had to pick this up, Jenna exclusive release! Thanks for the review.
nice! thanks Duke!
DUKE!!! Thank you SO much!! Hope you have been well!
Cheers dummies. I miss seeing Jenna on the out turns. Great review. Will need to find this! Funny to see whisky on an Irish Whiskey but if anyone could pull this off, it is Jenna. Maybe she talked to Makers Mark as well.
Makers is one of my fav bourbons!
Happy Saturday, guys! xoxo
Hi Aimee and thanks!
I could be wrong about this, but my understanding is that distilleries don't distill liquid fermented from 100% corn, 100% rye, etc. This is because malted barley provides enzymes that are necessary for the fermentation process. I assumed this meant that distilleries fermented grain composed of the mash bill desired for the final whiskey product. Either that or they distill something like 95% corn, 95% rye, etc. with the remainder being malted barley, and those *almost* pure grain distillates are then mixed. I also might have misunderstood what you two were getting at in that conversation.
Cool. You are probably right
The Guinness is still my favorite & the charred cask is good too. This one didn't move the needle for me, it's good, but not above the others
thanks marc!
Order up a bottle of the Eagle Rare 10 Year Old today on line $99 Canadian 🇨🇦👌
I just got some. It's delicious.
Sounds delicious! Thank you for reviewing! 🙂
German Gonzales uses Scotch (for dryness), Sherry (adds fruitiness) and Brandy Barrels (for sweetness) aged 5 years in thise separate barrels then blended and proofed to 43% before bottling
Great info thanks
The guinness is the hard one to find, at a decent price anyway. That one has jump in price a lot since it came out. I have yet to try it. The others are great. One of the very few celebrity spirits that is actually good
Agreed
Yeah just had some in 2024 July ..it's amazing!! Wow!!
I keep trying to figure out if you are referring to one girlfriend or many. The rum cask Lagavulin is quite excellent and should be purchased in multiples.
Probably many. But I can’t remember
It doesn't beat the Charred Oak cask from last year but it's worth a try. The Rum adds that plain sugar sweetness but masks some of the smoke.
Crazy that you guys don't get any cherry on here! It's not a lot, but I can't get away from those cherry chocolate candies with the liquid in 'em. Maybe some rosewater as well underneath. Now I've got to find some other ECBP to compare ;) Great review, cheers
Thanks
I picked up a bottle of this. It’s decent but a bit too sweet for me and I would rather get another bottle of the Lagavulin 8 than another bottle of this.
