Hey Julie, The book you are talking about sounds fantastic. I've got to say, I am interested in the rebrand or rework. Perhaps some useful ideas for you from a potential reader... I am speaker and an author with some years of experience and I do pretty well, but the never ending quest for getting gigs is a real thing (as I'm sure you know). Its the toughest part of the business. So the concept of building a business where customers come to US, is amazing. Also, in EVERY speaker group I've been a part of everyone always talks about how they HATE cold calling. Most flat out refuse, but that is often where jobs come from. (I am over my fear of it, but it would still be awesome to just open my email and see a request for a speaking gig. In fact, that's' why I'm here. I am writing my book to appeal to my audience, so I improve credibility and maybe just maybe they come to me. Speakers who just get gigs seem like they have the holy grail. Also, the idea of just being able to get one more gig a month with ease is a big desire. That would take many of us from just getting by to living the dream. Just saying. Hi Julie I have just watched three of your very informative videos. I am very close to publishing my own book hence the research into Selling Books Direct. If you get chance perhaps you could give me guidance on selling a book that is not the norm! My book is called "The Bondage King", 30 years of Designing, Building and Selling bondage & bdsm equipment. I had a store in Sydney for those years from the early 1980's and I have put together many of the funny stories that went with that time, I must stress that this not in anyway pornographic, if you must give it a title it's about Fetishes. Please delete this if it is a problem.
You state several times that you should file for a copyright before publishing. Of the copyright application requires you to provide the date of first publication. So, filing for a copyright before publishing is getting the cart before the horse.
We always have our authors submit for this before it's published. Many authors don't want to publish without having their copyright application submitted so that they have the most protection. You can set a publish date in the future on the application. You may attach an electronic copy of the work to file this.

I've been using the Draft2Digital platform for nearly a year and have had a great experience overall, recommending the company highly to everyone I know. However, I suspect there may be an issue with a member of their team. Recently, my last two books were blocked. When I reached out for clarification, I received responses that seemed automated or template-based. The explanations given were identical for both books, despite my assurances that all my work is original, free from copyright infringement, plagiarism, and not PLR, blank journals, low content books and the other issues mentioned in their response to my email. After these incidents, today I discovered that all my books have been delisted and my account was closed. This is particularly concerning as I still have outstanding earnings in the account from book sales, and I’m unsure if these will be paid out. Out of curiosity, I researched others' experiences with the platform and found that many users, some of whom have been with Draft2Digital for over 12 years, have faced similar issues. The sudden and unexplained closure of long-term accounts is disheartening and raises concerns about internal processes. While my overall experience with the platform has been positive, this recent development is disappointing. It appears that someone within the company may be acting improperly, impacting not only my livelihood but also that of other loyal users. I genuinely hope that this issue is resolved and that the integrity of Draft2Digital is maintained for the benefit of all authors who depend on it.

Love the practicality of the information here! I've generally had a good working relationship with KDP and the people who answer their customer service line. But, then, I haven't experienced any of this and, hopefully (knock on wood) I never will. Very disappointing.

I had forgotten about the $50 dollar spend rule. But I really have to take pause with the family/friends reviews. I have had many friends (old classmates of 50 years ago) buy my book and they have left comments. So my question becomes - how close of a friend and how would Amazon detect them all? Anyway, great tips as always.
They want reviews from people who purchased and reviewed your book. They can remove removes if they find someone is your friend or family. The reviews just disappear without an explanation.

It totally sucks people have to spend $50 with Amazon in order to leave a review... I could easily get 30+ genuine reviews but they don't so on Amazon (neither do I) 😠
