    Thanks for sharing. Have you also tried S4? I have an S4 but considering switching to A1 due to the footstrarps being too close on the S4 and being kind of uncomfortable... A1's space between the footstraps seem ideal. I have a question though, the sound makes me wonder if the way A1's seat is you feel any slight vibrations while moving, on S4 this is very smooth and you don't feel anything. Thanks

  • @Ayram9
    @Ayram9 Жыл бұрын

    I tried the S4 in the store and had no way of trying an A1 in person. Both my grandmothers had arthritis and hip replacements and I had this fear that putting my feet too closely together would hurt my hips long term so I didn't have a choice. That fear may not have been warranted but you know, not my natural stance. I'd been told by A1 owners and read online that the A1 would be noisier but not as noisy as the fan-driven machines. So I took my chances. Here's what I've come to learn from owning it: on occasion (not often) you might feel a slight gritty feeling from dust getting in the railing. When that happens, it's felt at the very beginning, so I just get off, move the seat to one end or the other and and rub my finger along the rail (then under wear I moved the seat) and that takes care of it. You don't feel that same exact kind of soundless, buttery slick glide, no, but it's also very smooth so it's hard to explain. The sound is not a factor for me at all. Once I'm going I'm somehow mentally processing only the amazing water sound as far as hearing goes, and I'm so focused on my form and the difficulty or high of rowing that I'm in no way remembering the gliding differences between the two models. In that moment I'm just comfortable and enjoying what it does (grateful for the wider stance, the comfy seat, the whooshing water, the fabulously smooth motion of the strap (compared to fan models with chains which are almost jerky in comparison) and the overall workout. I acknowledge that small loss though. I wish they could come up with that same exact glide for the mono rail ones. But it's still smooth - it's not jerky at all. And you don't feel less stable due to the aluminum under there (it's very strong) nor some sort of awareness while rowing, if that makes sense. It's also important to get the higher end of the two models - the one that has a couple more wheels. Lastly (sorry this is so long), a big factor for me was what I now know was a torn rotator cuff. I tried the fan model (Concept 2) and I felt stress from the not-super-smooth chain. The strap on the Water Rowers was SO much better for shoulder injuries. I might have considered the C2 were it not for that difference (but then I'd have lost out on the water which is truly zen and I love so much)!

    @@Ayram9 thank you so much for the info, invaluable! I didn't know the difference on the seats between A1 home and A1 studio. I also don't mind the noise. All in all the wider stance I think out-weights any slight difference on the smoothness of rolling. It's weird how A1 doesn't get more light compared to the classic series, seems like a better ergonomic design imo.

    @@upsidedownbucket388 I agree - it’s the better machine IMO. And I imagine would be even quieter if on a mat or a fully carpeted room.

    Monica Lenti light the pilot light underneath way in the back of the oven then push the red button. Once that button comes back out, your oven is reset. Turn your knob to gas on and She should fire right up.

    My two biggest questions about this mixer are how well it can handle creaming butter and sugar for cookies, and how well it can make mashed potatoes. The scraper / roller seems so foreign, it's hard to understand how it could complete these two tasks.

  • @Ayram9
    @Ayram910 жыл бұрын

    First of all I want to reiterate that this video shows an older machine that I was borrowing. I have the new one now (much more powerful and quiet) and the two times I made cookies, the recipe asked for softened butter. I don't know how it would do with cold butter but it did great with softer butter. I think it would do okay with somewhat colder butter in the big metal bowl because the white roller thingie acts like a hand kneading. I know that if I squish a big cube of butter in my hand, it will eventually incorporate with everything else, if that makes sense. The KA may be faster because it basically goes up and down straight into the cube (in theory) whereas the Ankarsrum would take it in a big circle to be clobbered by first the roller and then the scraper...so it'll do it too (and yes could handle firmer butter I think) but just not in the same way, if that makes sense. In one batch I used the roller/scraper (heavy whole wheat chocolate chip and nut) which was great and in the plastic bowl I made sugar cookies using the new whips which worked out very well. I've read online that people think the KA has a slight edge over this (new) mixer when it comes to creaming butter but I wonder if those reviews came out before the new cookie batter whips were added for the plastic bowl. Regardless, I don't think the KA would be better enough that it would warrant getting such an otherwise inferior machine. If you don't ever intend on making bread or dense cookie doughs, I'd consider the top of the line, all-metal parts KA. But this machine is the best out there for thicker, denser doughs, both small and very large quantities. The quality is absolutely amazing. The new mixer mashes potatoes better than this older one (roller spins faster too because of the extra power) but here's what I noticed: you can't undercook the potatoes for extra flavor without expecting some lumps. If you cook them the way most people do (until they're quite soft), they'll be smooth. I tend to undercook my potatoes for the flavor. If I use a hand-held mixer like I always did in the past, I can pretty much get all the lumps out if I really get in there and spend some time on it (note that either way I always cut up with long fork and knife first and sometimes also use a hand-masher first). If I want extra flavor but very smooth, I still do that sometimes. If I'm cooking for just my family, I always use the Ankarsrum cause no one minds a few lumps and I like being able to walk away and do other things while it mixes (and I like that I can set the timer if I get spacey). Also FYI I always use lots of butter, cream and some milk so if you don't use those things I don't know how it would do. ;) I've yet to try the plastic bowl and firmer whips for mashed potatoes. I'm curious - almost enough to risk bending them to try it out (I don't think they cost much to replace?) however the metal bowl is bigger if you make large quantities like I do. Again, if you don't make bread or huge batches of dense cookie dough, you might as well get a Kitchen Aid. Another couple of nice advantages of the Ankarsrum over the KA: it fits under most cabinets and you can add things while it's going with all that open bowl accessibility. I just received the meat grinder and other attachments so I'll have to see how well those work (stay tuned). I've also made meat loaf with the Ankarsrum which turned out great. It was nice not to get greasy hands. :) Whipped cream happens VERY fast in the plastic bowl with the whisks. Whips eggs very nicely too. Hope that all helps! I know this is too much detail but when I was researching I never seemed to get enough info!

    is there any way you would consider making a full video making the mashed potatoes? would be really inerested to see it. Also, I read on a different forum that if you put the cold butter through the grater attachment first, that the cold butter will then cream with the sugar much more easily and nicely. hope that tip helps!!
