Hi! My name is Macy. I taught 7th grade math for 6 years and now I make art using 3d printers. I mainly make videos about my design/printing process using Adobe Illustrator and TinkerCad, and I also show some behind the scenes content for my 3D print shop.
Thank you so much for watching and being apart of my little community. Your support means the world to me and I'm excited to be on this 3d printing journey with you guys.

Hi Macy, I loved the names with open letters. Could you tell me what font you use to create the names?
is your printing area vented... There probably is lots of noxious fumes if it is in the basement. How many printers are used for production and it is your main job now that pays better than a teacher?
Not sure if you worked this out or not but I've noticed that it is sometimes necessary to wash the textured boards before using them even when brand new. They seem to have some weird oil on them that burns off after a few prints but If you wash them with soap, water, and a non-scratch scrub pad (like for Teflon pans) they should stick well.
Hi Macy! I'm on a similar Journey with my growing little 3d print farm, granted a little behind where you're at. Would you be open to hopping on a chat and swapping ideas? Or even starting a discord server for people like us looking to grow? There's no overlap in the products we offer, but I have lots of questions and would appreciate if I could pick your brain on stuff, and happy to share the things I've learned in my short journey! I'm hoping to find a small group of synergistic people that can grow with each other without cannibalizing each others sales. Keep up the great work!
As someone who wants to start the same, but with different prints, I love these videos. I do have a question. What is the shelving system you are using for your printers? I am trying to cost things out and include the shelf.
Love watching your videos as I too run a KZread channel and Etsy store. Just curious as I typically ship abs parts. When you ship out pla parts this time of year like your name plates do you ever have anyone say their parts are warped when they receive them. I have a part I’m wanting to add to my Etsy store that pla will work fine for I’m just worried about it becoming disfigured while sitting in a hot mailbox. Thanks.
I've had a few that warped in the mail, but not enough to be substantial. Maybe 2 ever
@@macymakes3d Thanks for the reply. Thats good to know.
Please tell me those 1000w printers are not on the same electrical circuit.
Use these plates almost daily…findings: I Never put any additives on my plates. Wash with Dawn before every print … I cannot say I have zero adhesion issues, but I fail one out of about 40 prints on average. A1 with AMS and SV07 Plus, 60-65C, no fan first layer, slow, 215 degrees with PLA+. I have found that some of the plates have a slight texture to them and those plates have a pattern that will last a long time on your print. The smooth plates are extremely sensitive to fingerprints. If you look at the pattern on the plate, where the pattern disappears, the plate is dirty… Even a simple fingerprint will make it disappear. With isopropyl, you can wipe the plate where fingerprints exist and watch the pattern reappear. After successfully printing, the pattern does not last very long at all. Rub your fingers over it… And it’s gone. The designs with a little texture are fun and definitely adds another element to be creative with.
Oh man I totally replied then read yours haha. 100% washing the board should resolve it. I have experienced the same with these boards.
I am just beginning with an A1 mini from Bambu. I can only print using one color. I would like to tie 3d printing in with my woodworking. Do you have any suggestions on beginning 3d printing?
The bambu printers make entry into 3d printing so much easier than in the past, so you shouldn't have too much to worry about. That's so cool you want to use it with your woodworking, I'm sure there are tons of free models out there that you could print right away. If you're not familiar with sites for free models you could try thingiverse, makerworld, cults3d, printables, and thangs. Probably others but those are a good place to start.
forgive me if this is a stupid question, but why would there NOT be room for you in a category? Etsy doesn't get "full" does it?
If there are too many products in a category, it's much harder to get on the first few pages, so no one will ever see your product. You need to find a category that has a low number of products and high search volume.
@@macymakes3d gotcha. but it's not like etsy says "sorry, category is full, you can't come in". 🤣👊🏻
Lol no they'll gladly let you in
@@macymakes3d ok good haha! i've been having good success with my handmade furniture sales but wanted to start making/selling more small items with my cnc and laser (which i should've been doing before now🤦🏻♂️). Keep up the great work, I just subscribed. I just 3D printed my first thing at my friends house with his Prusa printer...now i'm hooked 🤣
Ive tried a number of these. Recommended printing QR codes out and taping them on.
The extruder gears were made yellow for this very reason, hints the window on the side of the printer head enclosure that shows the yellow gear, with out taking anything apart. Once you start seeing any debris on that yellow gear, it’s recommended your open the extruder gears up and give everything a quick clean. I run 8 of these printers 24/7 and wish someone would of told this sooner!! Hope all is well
Awesome thank you for the advice! If I just clean the gears I should be able to reuse them? I'm going to switch all of my printers over to the hardened gears but good to know I can clean them and get more use instead of replacing every time.
Anyone know a better alternative to illustrator? $40/mo is kinda ridiculous.
I would consider getting a Synology NAS for all your video archives. You will love, looooove it and never look back. It's like having your own iCloud, with many usable apps and network your video files for editing.
That's actually a great idea! Something I'll for sure be looking in to, thank you!
@@macymakes3d Ya, I love your videos, and they have been a lot of help to me as I get my feet wet in the 3D printing world. Feel free to let me know if you need help with NAS details and setup.
When hanging brackets (or anything) like those, I usually make my marks, start one screw w/o the bracket so it's easier to screw it in w/ one hand while holding the bracket, then after that one is started, it will hold one end for you so you can get the level on it, mark the hole, start the screw again w/o the bracket, then put it in place and tighten it all down. I thought the top shelf was going to be smaller due to the smaller bracket....why were the shelves the same but the brackets different?! As far as your extruders, when you replenish your inventory, I'd try the one w/ hardened gears. Should last a lot longer.
Thanks for the tips! I'm new to anything drill related so I welcome all the help I can get. I'm not sure why the brackets were different, kinda threw me off during the install. And for the extruders, I've already changed 2 printers over to the hardened gears since filming this video, and I'll probably do the same for the rest once they go bad. I've started printing with CFs and more abrasive materials so I'll have to anyway. Glad to see you back in the comments :)
@@macymakes3d I believe for abrasives you will want the hardened nozzles too. I have yet to venture past PLA. I did get a 2nd P1S combo during the sale....I am trying to develop products to sell, though I have not really sold anything yet, besides some things to ppl I know. LOL Your videos inspire me to keep trying, thanks! Glad I can give you a little bit back w/ tips on things I know more about. You keep making videos, I'll keep watching and commenting!
Hi, very good very impressive, but you need someone to help you as it must be a very long day. bye
Hi Macy, I've just come across your channel and I love your openness about what you do and how you do it, as well as the vibe of your content! 🙂 As someone who is looking to expand to multiple Bambu AMS setups, it'd be amazingly awesome if you could make a video about your spreadsheets and how they work for you/have improved your work flow etc, even if it's only a short 10ish min video. 🙂 It'd be great to see the process from start to finish such as how you set them up, the data you input into them and how they marry up to your printers/AMS's.
That’s a great idea. I’ll see what I can come up with!
How many printing hours do you get per extruder? I just got into 3D printing as well (Mostly just for fun) and into 3D print design. It’s been fun so far! Great videos!
Great set up but who buys plastic weight lifting equipment?
Lol it's for kids. Helps them learn proper weightlifting form without worrying about heavy weights.
Did you change your settings in bambu studio for smooth build plate?
Yes! Settings are at the end of the video
I just so happen to be working on my workshop now as well 😂 Yours is coming along! Let's go!!
Yesss! Print shop upgrades for the win
If the colors can be seen without opening each box, it seems you are handling each spool more often than necessary. Can’t you stack your boxes on the shelves? Then, only handle once.
I really like your honesty! You can ask very help and stuff keep this up! Very nice content even if I don’t really like BambuLab ^^
Really informative video, been looking into 3d printing and its great to see how u think and work, learned some new things. Thanks! Keep it up
Awesome setup 😊
Do you get paid in advance? Do you bill repeat customers? How do you determine your pricing?
Pricing is tough, and something I'm still working on. I'll hopefully be able to make a video very soon about my pricing.
We have the same last name!
First off, thanks a ton for the videos, very down to earth and informative. Now, only question I have is after having to swap out the extruders, is there a reason you haven’t upgraded to the X1 hardened gears (or extruder altogether)? We just got our first P1S last weeks and #2 will be here tomorrow. I opted right away to order the X1 nozzle and extruder (you need to get the fan and heater/thermostat set from the P1 or swap your existing to them) and set them up so I have the stock P1 extruder/hot end as backups. Interested in your thoughts on this. Keep the videos going, they’re awesome so far
Curious what steps you take to ensure uptime on so many printers. I am constantly getting AMS pull back errors pausing my prints. Also, how do you tune in new filaments (speed and quality settings)?
We’re is the a1
I sold it about 2 weeks before the recall. I didn’t like the workflow in bambu studio having different kinds of printers.
@@macymakes3d that makes sense I understand why when is your next video coming out???
Love the white background. Looks way better and professional for the talking parts. Love to see the extruder part. I want to design a cap to replace the bambulab to my page name. I'll follow you on IG to (btw found the multiple build plates in Bambu studio) helped me a lot this weekend to even plan a nightrun)
Macy...Your channel happen to show up on my recommended videos. Nifty KZread's algorithm. 🙂 It's awesome to see what you've created in a relatively short time. Keep up the great content. It's nice to show others what different issues you can run into during the day. I used to run 6 Prusa printers prior to Covid, primarily printing prototype parts using CF PETG, but now I'm down to just one. I've been on the fence about getting a P1P It's good to see some longevity usage issues you have run into. For any PLA I used was Jessie's PLA from Printed Solid. Made in the USA . When you get a chance maybe check them out. Looking forward to see more of your videos.
I’ve been using the Jessie petg and it prints well. I had to tweak some settings but now it’s… solid :) doesn’t fit in the AMS but that’s ok for what I’m using it for.
Oddy it looks like I have forgoten to subscribe😱 - Fixed now ❤Thanks for sharing your progress in the vlog!
Something i like to do with my 3d printers is i write down the problem that i have and then the solution to the problem. So if ever in not sure what's causing the problem then i can look at my cheat sheet. This would have saved me 4 week of waiting for parts and frustration.^_^
Hi ! Another great video, by the way, I have a question for you, what UPS are your using ?
Thanks! Here are the 2 I have amzn.to/4eLReQW and amzn.to/3VAG5to I have 3 printers hooked up to each and that will give me 20ish minutes of battery life if the power goes out.
How does the barbell work? Is it fillable and are the bars printed as well?
I use Ziro PLA. its been amazing and they give you a resealable bag as well. Its amazing
Looking good Macy I like the room
Thanks! :)
Love the vlogs
Thank you :) Thanks for watching!
Are this plates from JUUPINE on Aliexpress?
are you going to do P1P to P1S upgrade for your printers?
I haven't planned on it, but it might make a cool video so maybe... :)
i've not needed glue for the PEI plate for PLA
Question about the extruder: how many hours are you getting before you have issues? I have an X1C and have about 2000hrs but have never had an issue. I print lots of materials and quite a bit of abrasives with CF but have only ever changed nozzles. I took the extruder apart to clean and inspect a few months back and other particulate contamination mine was in great shape. But it’s the X1C so wondering if it’s holding up better as it’s definitely hardened gears etc. Does the P1 use the same extruder that’s hardened or is there a non hardened version? - if so could be worth changing to the hardened one from x1C.
P1s definitely don't have the hardened gears but I think I'm going to start upgrading them all to the hardened ones instead of changing out the entire extruder as things wear out in the future.
I watched your videos for like 6 months or so and made the decesison to buy my own 3D printer and just bought the x1 Carbon combo a week ago. Keep up the good work Macy.
That's awesome! Thanks for being here :)
Ive been watching your videos for a while now, and I just want to say I love it how you show and verbalise your struggles throughout the process, it makes you and your videos relatable. which a lot of the other KZreadrs in this space don't have so my hats off to you.
Thank you! I'm trying to show you guys what it's really like. No fluff here. Thanks for watching :)
@@macymakes3d Well its much appreciated.
8:52 next time try this as it will save tape and hassle. - get shelf about where you want, mark and drill one hole, put shelf mount up and put screw in the first hole loosely, level the mount plate with your spirit level (check if plate matches shelf otherwise put level on the spigot things) and mark other end hole. Let plate drop down and drill next hole. Lift up mount plate and tighten 2nd screw. Mark and drill any other screws, place plate Tighten all screws tight and your done. Then do the shelf part. Other tip if you have no studs and only using dry wall anchors, ensure dry wall anchors carry more than weight than you want to store to save them pulling out and shelf sagging down.
Thanks for the tips! I knew there had to be a better way lol
Very helpful with sitting up my own business in Australia 🇦🇺... Thankyou
Can't you do some post processing on that pink piece instead of doing a whole new print? Sure fix the extruder but some filler/paint can work
In response to it can't be hard, I share with you the Programmers credo: "We do this not because it is easy, but because we thought it would be easy."
Nice video. just came from a party, its 03:05 in the morning, but i had to watch this..
Commitment! Thanks for watching 😂
