    Obviously this isn’t something that anyone should do routinely. That said, and I’ve posted this before PB, now STASHERS makes silicone bags that make this safe to place the egg with omelet ingredients in, seal, then place the bags in the simmering water safely. Same results only using silicone bags. www.stasherbag.com/

    You might think about poking them with a knife when they come out of the oven to ledt the steam come out. It will also keep them from falling.

  • @VickiBensinger

    Once you poke them they deflate. They’re hollow inside. By the time they reach the table they won’t be as hot. Directly from the oven they are steaming hot inside.

    As I had mentioned in the past using a plastic bag isnt something you would do daily. However now there are Stashers.com. They are silicone baggies and come in a variety of sizes. These are ideal for making omelets in a zip lock bag. Check them out online as they are safe in boiling water.

    How safe is it to use a plastic ziplock bag?

  • @VickiBensinger
    @VickiBensinger5 жыл бұрын

    I would never suggest doing this on a regular basis since your typical zip lock plastic bag isn’t the greatest. But have used them for this on occasion and it works incredible as you can see in my video. That said there are now plastic safe bags that are safe when heated. I can’t recall the names of them now but will look and post it.

    @@VickiBensinger Why is this video still active if you are now aware of the unsafe use of a Zip-Lock?

  • @VickiBensinger
    @VickiBensinger5 жыл бұрын

    Bob Smith There are newer bags out that work with boiling, look online and in your supermarket. That said this recipe isn’t one someone would do routinely but is a fun and quick way to make an omelet. Do you eat sweets, smoke, drink alcohol? This is a recipe camps use to use all the time. Of course the world is aware now more than ever of all the hazards or most in life. I shared a recipe and have a long thread of discussion about this topic and plastic bags. Some choose not to try this while others might. Just like microwaving in plastic containers, GMO, apple juice, alcohol, smoking, etc. People are aware of hazards yet we all make our own choices. These hazards or warnings are everywhere and I’m so aware. I’m only sharing a recipe with lots of discussion that I welcome. Thank you for your comments. Happy Holidays!

    Water doesn't need to be boiling. In fact, it shouldn't be. The magic temperature is 167 degrees F. The magic time is 30 minutes, not 13. That's how you do it with a sous vide machine, but you can do the same thing on the stove, if you just watch the temperature of the water and keep it at roughly 167 degrees F.

  • @VickiBensinger

  • @VickiBensinger
    @VickiBensinger7 жыл бұрын

    Johnny Fields Yes depending on the type of bag you use there is that risk. This isn't something I recommend on a daily basis but if you were having a brunch or kids over for a slumber party it's a fun and quick way to have all omelets done at the same time and have guests involved. There are however new zip lock bags that apparently are food safe now. I've seen them online. But to answer your question there is that risk. It's up to you whether you want to try this or not. Certainly it's not something I recommend on a routine basis. Thank you for your question.
