    Every successful breeder I’ve ever met except one says they have never heard of it or never had it … but in talking with hundreds of of hobbyists over 30 years they all have all experienced it . I even went back in their social media history to back when they were beginning and getting help for 4 week syndrome and years later say they never had it .,, but heller I believe really has never had it because he cleans his fish so well. 😂

    So the normal is for the smaller fish to have bigger eyes than the bigger fish? I don't understand the language of the number related to the eyes.

  • @shelleraquatics
    @shelleraquatics8 күн бұрын

    Take their existing eye and stack it it above and below. So their existing eye is #1 put the same size eye above it that is #2 and keep putting eyes above it until you run out of space. Now let's say you counted 2.5 eyes above. Now take the existing eye and move it down that is 3.5, keep going until you run out of space. If you can count 2 more eyes you have 5.5 eyes

    Doesn't all the parasites in the whole system, in and out of the fish, die when you medicate? I'm asking that because I want to understand why people keep medicating the same fish over and over. Perhaps because they feed infected food after they medicated the system? I love the background noise of this video!!!!!!

    What do you causes short gill

  • @shelleraquatics
    @shelleraquatics8 күн бұрын

    Short gills, or "gill curling," in Discus fish can be caused by several factors. Here are some of the common causes: Poor Water Quality: Elevated levels of ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate can stress the fish and lead to gill damage. Maintaining clean water with proper filtration and regular water changes is crucial. Inadequate Oxygenation: Low oxygen levels in the water can cause stress and affect gill development. Ensure proper aeration and water movement to keep oxygen levels sufficient. High Levels of Toxins or Chemicals: Exposure to harmful chemicals, such as chlorine, heavy metals, or residual medications, can cause gill damage. Always use a water conditioner to neutralize chlorine and other toxins. Genetic Factors: Some Discus fish may be genetically predisposed to gill deformities. This is more common in fish bred from parents with similar issues. Infections and Parasites: Bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections can cause gill inflammation and damage. Common culprits include gill flukes, which are parasitic flatworms that infest the gills. Improper Nutrition: Poor diet or lack of essential nutrients can weaken the fish's immune system and make them more susceptible to gill issues. Ensure a balanced diet with high-quality food. Overcrowding: High fish density in the tank can lead to increased stress, poor water quality, and reduced oxygen levels, all contributing to gill problems.

    I think that is a MAN thing! If you are a fisherman you know what im talking about. Discus fish typically grow to be 4.8-6.0 inches long, but some captives have reached 9 inches . Adults typically weigh 5.3-8.8 ounces . Males may be larger than females, but there is no clear sexual dimorphism. There is a Tall Tale of a 17 inch 10 lb. discus being caught in the wild but no pictures can be found! and the story is it died quickly in captivity.

  • @shelleraquatics

    If you have ever held a 9 inch Discus it is massive and breathtaking. Ive personally have owned 3 in 35 years and maybe seen a dozen! 10" Is possible but 1 in a million in my opinion, im still looking. I had a guy tell me he had a 12 inch discus i was intrigued. When we pulled it out to measure it came in at 8.5, still big but not a foot long.

    99.9% metronidazole. I just sold my Wild Altums for this exact reason. They would only eat frozen bloodworms and frozen shrimp. The cost just didn't make sense for me anymore. They were a rare Altum the "Rio Vichada". I did get them eating Daily Delight but just picking at it and also some pellets but never attacking the food. It was frustrating and very expensive. It was my dream since I was a kid in the 80's. They are the ultimate and hardest fish to keep in their optimal IMO. How did you feed the dry blood worms? I've tried couple times just to pollute the system cause they wouldn't even attack the cube. And it is very had to feed them. They normally get scared and flee to the back of the other side of the tank under the protection of some Vallisneria I have for them. I played for 16 years and had a women's club for 12 years. We played a Spanish style attacking offense but preferred the German defense system. I took girls from entry or rec soccer up to D1. We were not well funded so we never cracked the premier level unfortunately. But it was very rewarding. I love the game and how fluid it is, it teaches great life lessons. Steve Heller

    brilliant, and obviously it goes without saying that overall the quality of the fish themselves is going to be massive can you use multi vitamins that humans use

    Livestock vitamins are preferred but definitely can use the right human vitamins.

    Once again the full story without all the run around lol , I saw another video and this guy talked an hour about treating discus fry to prevent 30 day syndrome and kept saying at the end of the video I’m going to give the name of the medicine , he talked and talked but never gave us the name of the secret medicine lol , I told hey buddy you never mentioned the meds , first he told me he was going to make a video about it , I ask him about it every video he puts out now he actually straight up told me he was sick and couldn’t tell the name ,but made another video the next day , it been going on for a month now and I ask him about it on every video and he straight up refuses to name it also every video he puts out is called how I almost killed my discus and then he shows recovery, lol , the best channel on here is Sheller aquatic s , this guy don’t mess around he tells the truth!!!

    I'm guessing postaium permaganate or PP. It is an oxidizer and kills everything but it is just a guess. PP was a go to for years. I have never experienced the 30 day syndrome myself but have heard stories

    Glad you made this. I was trying to figure out how vitamins figured in fish care. And makes so much sense with the after meds care. Thanks!! #LEVERKUSENFC😝

    i got my red Jaguar discus on Friday but they are not eating any food. Do they need time to settle in? Great video.

    Absolutely. If you have freeze dried blackworms give them a try, it's a food no discus can resist
