Military History Visualized
This channel features Military History ranging from Classical Times up to contemporary conflicts. The focus is to keep it short, visual, analytical and entertaining.
Since around June 2016 almost every video uses mainly academic books as sources, if possible. The sources are always provided in the description.

And I just became a new subscriber today Mr military visualized. Alex from USA 👍👍
To Mr military visualized if the Germans would have stuck to producing the panther and King tiger instead of jagdpanthers and jagdtigers which have no turrets which put them at disadvantage in combat I still don't understand why not stick to tanks with turrets they clearly have the area of firing better while in combat. What do you think of my comment of yes to tanks and no to tank destroyers for Germany ? Danke Alex from USA. 👍
Amazing
even some medival castles had sloped walls to make cannonballs useless.
Great video! A nitpick though. All hollow charges are shaped charges, but not all shaped charges are hollow charges. Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFPs) are for instance shaped charges, but not hollow charges, using a metal plate instead of a hollow "tube".
The Coriolis effect needs to be accounted for as well.
18:55 What does represent that icon??? An odd chainsaw maybe?!

@@MilitaryHistoryVisualized Danke für die schnelle Antwort. Man lernt wirklich nie aus! 😉
Anyone who's played Advanced Squad Leader knows "Cellar" rule B23.41 -- that there's a good chance you'll destroy your tank and end up in a basement if you plan on crashing your AFV into a building.
Pretty gehy dude. Used to like your content

The Americans and British made good use of forwards artillery observation to intergrate artillery with the other arms. The soviets lacked the expertiese, and radio equipment to effectively intergrate their artillery and other arms to the point that soviet units relied much more heavily on their organic mortars for any supporting fire. Which is not as effective against troops in APCs and tanks as medium calibre field pieces like the 155mm or 5.5 inch guns of the western allies.
If you want to point to a failure of German counter attack, look at Al Hafia, the Mareth line, the Falaise pocket, the battle of the Island(which is severely underrated) and the defence of the Rhine. In all cases here their counter attack was stopped dead by massed artillery, anti tank guns and tanks.
It’s funny to think how tanks were created to cross trenches and now tanks don’t like to cross trenches because it’s frankly too dangerous.
So Kasserine was a sucsess, despite the fact that the Axis forces were soon shortly stopped and forced to withdraw by allied action. Whilst the Bulge and Nordwind were somehow different, when vastly outnumbered German forces blew through US lines, pushed them back several miles, annhilated their initial armoured counter attacks, before losing momentum, and being forced to withdraw due to allied action.
Anyone else notice the my little pony?
I have a model of a Bergepanther. I have not forgotten about these awesome vehicles
The Ferdinand: **has its gun, casemate and ammunition removed** The drivetrain: “oh thank god” The Ferdinand: **charged with pulling a King Tiger out of a bog** The drivetrain: 🗿
Excellent supporting numbers. A very interesting topic. Thank you.
Medal of Honor: Airborne
After all it's a very effective weapon system still in use by a lot of nations.
What?
@@TzunSu the rocket propelled anti-tank grenade launcher.
@@T.efpunkt That's not the same system though. A weapons system is a specific weapon, not a concept.
@@TzunSu thank you for trolling, have a nice day.
@@T.efpunkt What are you talking about? Please, learn basic English.
Seems like in modern with technology every armor is weak. So it doesnt matter if ts leopard 1 or 2.
What is a man? a recoilless hand-held weapon designed to engage all tanks, including the heaviest, up to a range of 150 meters. But enough talk, have at you!
Huh, I had no idea the Panzerfaust actually had greater penetration of the two. I always just assumed since the Panzerschreck was the heavier specialist weapon it would be more powerful.
Wow, i thought Panzerschrecks were widespread regular infantry weapons like the panzerfausts. I really learned some new here, thank you. <3
Id love to see you take on combat mission battle fpr normandy!
2024 ...Russia is winning !
2024 .... LAMAO !!
3:12 Wait... is that Soviet Womble?
womble
Panzerschreck vs bazooka: history (Who was the first? Who copied other) and performance, please
Why does the Soviet Womble sometimes show up? I have been watching this channel for years but I have never been able to puzzle that one out.
It is a "cultural reference", also many years ago I did it and Womble actually commented on it. Here is a clip from his twitch where he shortly talks about my channel as well: clips.twitch.tv/EncouragingUglyWaterTebowing
So, in short, it is a joke.
@@MilitaryHistoryVisualized about potshots it was, I think. At least that's one comment of his I sae ages ago.
Panzerschreck tactics are easy. 1) You order 2 Panzergrenadier squads, with 2 panzerschrecks each. 2) Intantly vaporise any enemy vehicle you stumble upon. 3) Since as Germany you can't afford fuel for Panzers anyway, and defence through attack is the only way, these 2 squads are all the spearhead you need. I play way too much CoH2....
Didn't the Tiger Handbook advise to angle the tank towards the enemy? By doing this you basically neutralize the disadvantage while still maintaining the benefits.
That is horizontal angling, sloped armor is vertical.
So you took @sovietwomble as a disposable sign? Seems to fit 😂
Did Japan have cavalry divisions?
😂😂😂 Another game changer.
Take a block of C4. Using a spoon dig out a cylinder of C4 from the middle. The cylinder is a shaped charge, you can mold it in any shape as required. The remainder of the block of C4 is a hollow charge. Repeat this action with Semtex. By placing the cylinder of C4 into the block of Semtex you create one HEAT charge. Placing the Semtex cylinder into the C4 block you create another HEAT charge.
What are you smoking? C4 is literally made out of semtex. How on earth are you making ''shaped charges'' by removing bits of plastic explosive, and replacing it with the very same plastic explosive?
Had to get 200 meters or less
Regarding the kinetic energy, my read is that given the speed of the actual shaped charge going off, the speed with which it hits the target is irrelevant for penetration. Gotta be honest, the massive back flame would make me get up & move my Schreck pretty quickly. Nice use of the sponsor too btw. Thanks Bernhard.
Pretty much. High Explosive Anti Tank munitions do all their damage via the metal jet moving several kilometers per second penetrating armor. It's why a shaped charge can be used for demolition. HEAT ammo is easier to protect against than armor piercing solid ammunition however. Air gaps significantly reduce the effectiveness of a HEAT jet which is why vehicles often have air gaps in their armor, and add on protection that detonates the HEAT shell further away from the vehicle. Of course, you can defeat standoff armor with tandem charges (two shaped charges, one to blast through the standoff armor to clear the way for the second, primary charge behind it), but then you also have Active Protection Systems which shoots down incoming projectiles and Explosive Reactive Armor which is very good at reducing HEAT jet effectiveness, and composite materials that disrupt the travel of a HEAT jet by altering it's pathway upon impact...it's one big arms race. Whereas the only realistic option to stop armor piercing ammo is thicker and stronger armor. But AP weapons are much less portable since you need heavy projectiles, and weapons that can withstand massive pressure to launch them at high speed.
The narrator's German accent reminds me of my Father.
testing
This might be obvious & not part of the video, but often times tanks have to pull their buddies out of situation they are in & back to the rear. It's part of a team, & they are right there... (In regards to the low numbers)
How many granades did every panzerschreck team carry into battle?
I like that you used the game to show what you are explaining, this is a good visual aid and a good promotion at the same time!
I always knew rainbow dash was suspiciously hard
Disappointed Rainbow Dash worked with the Wehrmacht. Still the best pony.
At one point you made a video for the children to fight a tiger on their way home from school. I think this series will require an update.
At 2:03 you call this a “non-kinetic penetration”, but it absolutely is, since as you mentioned it isn’t thermal. It’s the kinetic energy of the rocket that doesn’t matter.
Yeah, my error, it should be non kinetic ammo.
How many here have even fired something like this irl? 84mm Carl G* and 84mm AT4 user/instructor here *Even used it on "poor folks"..2003 and 2007! 😕 (Royal Life Guards: Dänemark aka Danmark aka Denmark) PS YES! Internet: Recoilless rifles They both are....BUT pretty close in/when usage...or?
Enjoyed the video, sadly Men of War II however is just not a good game for people who care a lot about realism. I’d highly recommend against purchasing Men of War II and instead purchasing Call to Arms: Gates of Hell or an older title like Men of War: Assault Squad 2.
