Here are some common ones: 👉 grátis - This is the most common word 🇧🇷 A entrada é grátis. 🇬🇧 The entry is free. 👉 gratuito(a) - This is a bit more formal 🇧🇷 O evento é gratuito. 🇬🇧 The event is free. 👉 de graça -“for free” - very common in everyday language. 🇧🇷 Eles estão dando refrigerantes de graça. 🇬🇧 They are giving soft drinks for free. 👉 cortesia - Lit. “courtesy” - used when something is provided complimentary. 🇧🇷 O vinho é cortesia da casa. 🇧🇷 The wine is on the house.

    👉 To refer to the period of the day use the preposition “de” 🇧🇷 Amanhã de manhã vou estudar. 🇬🇧 Tomorrow morning I’m going to study. 🇧🇷 No sábado de tarde vou visitar um amigo. 🇬🇧 On Saturday afternoon I’m going to visit a friend. 🇧🇷 Hoje de noite vou assistir TV.. 🇬🇧 Tonight (Lit. Today at night) I’m going to watch TV. 👉You can also use the preposition “à” with tarde and noite: à tarde / à noite, but that sounds a bit more formal, and you can’t use it with “manhã” because it would sound like the word for “amanhã” (tomorrow). 👉 When you specify the time followed by the period of the day (which is how we indicate AM and PM), that “de” becomes “da” 🇧🇷 Amanhã às 9 da manhã vou estudar. 🇬🇧 Tomorrow at 9 am I’m going to study. 🇧🇷 No sábado às duas da tarde vou visitar um amigo. 🇬🇧 On Saturday at 2 PM I’m going to visit a friend. 🇧🇷 Hoje às 9 da noite vou assistir TV. 🇬🇧 Today, at 9 pm I’m going to watch TV. 👉 Now your challenge is to write a sentence in the comments saying something you’re going to do this weekend either mentioning just the period of the day or specifying a time as well.

    🇧🇷 Boa tarde. 🇬🇧 Good afternoon. 🇧🇷Boa tarde, eu gostaria de fazer uma reclamação. 🇬🇧 Hi, good afternoon, I’d like to make a complaint. 🇧🇷 Claro. Qual seria o problema? 🇬🇧 Of course. What would be the problem? 🇧🇷 A televisão não tá funcionando e só tá saindo água fria do chuveiro. 🇬🇧 The television isn’t working, and I’m only getting cold water from the shower. 🇧🇷 Entendi. Eu posso mandar alguém pra consertar a televisão e o chuveiro agora mesmo. 🇬🇧 I understand. I can send someone to fix the television and shower right away. 🇧🇷 Mas, não é só isso. Eu tinha reservado um quarto com vista pra praia, mas o quarto que vocês me deram é de fundos. 🇬🇧 But, that’s not all. I had reserved a room with a beach view, but the room you gave me is at the back of the hotel. 🇧🇷 Ah, certo. Desculpa, deve ter sido um erro nosso... O quarto 305 está disponível. Você pode se mudar para lá agora mesmo. 🇬🇧 Oh, I see. I apologize, that must have been our mistake. Room 305 is available. You can move there right away. 🇧🇷 Tem vista pra praia? 🇬🇧 Does it have a view to the beach? 🇧🇷 Sim, é um quarto de frente com vista pra praia. 🇬🇧 Yes, it’s a front facing room with a view to the beach. 🇧🇷 Fantástico. Fernando, how did the word precisar become "to need" when it means "exact" (precise)??

  • @fwbp
    @fwbp2 ай бұрын

    The main meaning of "precisar" is "to need". It does have some other meanings, depending on the context, i.e. to particularize, exact, fix, detail, specify, but it's very rare for people to use it with these meanings. There´s the noun "precisão" (precision, accuracy, exactness) and the adjective "preciso(a)" (precise, exact).

    Portuguese people are very used to Brazilian Portuguese, so they’ll have no problem understanding you. However, you might have some problems understanding them as their accent (and some vocabulary and grammar) can be quite different than Braz Portuguese. It might be a good idea being exposed to European Portuguese a bit before you go. ****** ✅ Support the channel and unlock awesome perks!
