    You heavily undersold a few aspects. Not only will it be wireless, it will be fully standalone (no pc required). The Foviated rendering is also immensely important because it will be a paradigm shift where a VR headset not only outperforms regular flatscreen gaming but does so more immersively. It's going to be a full computer, not just a game device and people will buy it instead of a laptop once they find out about the features it offers.

    i think you made some pretty well unthought out opinions in this one. didnt even mention how meta and competitors are pushing AR instead of VR, the babysitter gimmick. didnt even talk about how it is up to game developers to put out good enough content to survive in ANY market, let alone the dying VR market. you barely touched on the killer app that VR needs to sell headsets, however its hard for an ecosystem like Valve or anyone to create games that utilize their own features while still being able to enjoy them on other harware. its the nintendo emulator argument all over again. so when a company does make a game they have to cater to several different types of hardware, finger/face/body/eye tracking, all on a standalone or mobile platform with varying levels of quality solely based on the headsets that are available, all of which offer vastly different abilities at any given point in time. its not just making a game for an xbox 360. so when a game comes out and doesnt have "feature x" capability, its not pushing the industry, (in fact it could be argued that it alienates those people who do seek those features and paid heavily for them) its not able to be "THAT TITLE" that makes people buy VR because the game devs are held back by or even know what the future standard is. people lose interest because the user buys all the bells and whistles with no support. its like buying a ps5 and only being able to play ps2 games on it all while people on the internet keep saying VR isnt dying when it has literally gone BACKWARDS the past 4-5 years. OLED to LCD = backwards progress. Camera based inside out tracking = backwards progress. choosing to use old lenses and old screens and old snapdragon processors when better industry leading means are available = cheap backwards progress. who who are we to believe here? the game devs who cant make leading industry games or the vr industry hardware leaders who failed to innovate at the expense of consumer money? instead they just push junkware small arena/wave shooters and AR like its new as a gimmick to drive failing sales figures every quarter. you said it yourself. there has been BILLIONS if not more spent into this industry but i have to ask the obvious question here... where is the return from that investment? it sure as hell isnt in software and hardware has gone backwards or slightly adjacent. prices keep going up on hardware but at the end of the day, its the same product you bought before just more expensive due to half of the features never even being utilized or capitalized on. ooo but 200 more pixels per eye that you can STILL SEE is worth 350% more money.

  • @RandoReign

    dont hold your breath. vr is ded. steamcharts even show little to negligible growth or negative growth for all headsets. apart from HLA and VRchat what games are there to play? oh wait, there arent any games outside of freeware/junkware wave shooter type games where you stay in 1 spot for 8 hours a day. hope that was worth the price of the headset because there literally is nothing else to do. and to sit here and think that a VR headset that isnt even announced is just going to spring up out of nowhere and take the whole market by storm is a pipedream at best. they would literally need a Left 4 Dead VR game at launch to.... wait a sec.... Left 4 Dead is on the table? huh.... i um. PIPEDREAM

    Got introduced with VR experience back in 2021 by getting Rift S as an first VR headset ever [didn't knew what was Quest 2 at the time] Played Boneworks as an first game and regret so much since i got strong motionsick after it... Luckily i found out about VRchat and, well... Been sticking to it for over 3 years. Overtime upgraded to Valve Index & never felt to play any serious games on it, just wanted to stay active physically & keep myself busy in evenings. [Dancing, partying, mini games, picture taking & friends making from all over the world]

    Your assumption about why Valve would do something with software is extremely flawed. They are not a hardware company - they are a software company that also makes hardware. They didn't create the Steam Deck because they want to make money off the Steam Deck. They did so because they want to make more money off of their Steam platform. VR is just another means to do that. Growing the markets for mobile PC gaming was the true impetus of Steam Deck, in hopes that they could snag more casual gamers on the way to and from work perhaps, or on long car/train/plane journeys. Likewise Index and Deckard are about growing that VR market. Once the VR market is favorably increasing the use of Steam, that means Index/Deckard has fulfilled its use and no longer necessary as long as users of non Valve headsets can still use Steam somehow.

  • @mnomadvfx
    @mnomadvfx3 ай бұрын

    An eye tracking system still needs its own optics which is why the rise of flat, thin metalenses makes this the perfect time for eye tracking systems to take over the VR market, because metalenses will allow these systems to be significantly more compact, and possibly cheaper too depending on how expensive it is to produce a full wafer of metalenses vs as many individual infra red lenses.

    Imho what we need are not more VR-exclusive features in games. We need less friction & jankiness, much more polished user interfaces and more titles that people want to play regularly and aren't minigames. Why is the Meta Quest UI a lazy floating 2D panel with their billion-dollar budgets? It should be a native 3D experience with more natural interactions that makes you feel like you're in a sci-fi movie. Some games desperately need better tactile feedback in the controllers. Apple's product will be really important for setting a standard there, whether it's successful or not.

  • @Kadvler
    @Kadvler5 ай бұрын

    The games we need don’t need to depend entirely on VR-specific features but just more AAA games which wow the player and games that last longer than 5 hours of playtime. A good point you made was the friction between actual using a VR headset. Sometimes it’s a whole task to put it on and get it setup. Luckily I feel like we’re already heading in this direction with smaller headsets like the BSB so they’re much less cumbersome to wear. The main menu UI would also benefit from being less like a video game inventory and more interactive like you said :)

    Yep, I wholehearted agree we need more content. Games where the player will spend longer then 5 hours in is what we need. Having lots of indie games is awesome but we need the big hitting AAA games as well!

    People really like the quest and wireless headsets but for the bottom line is, if I can't run everything on a wireless headset that I can on a wired headset, I'm not gonna want it. The best case scenario for me would be everything the BIGSCREEN Beyond has but with better lenses, and face and eye tracking (Passthrough is nice but I'd rather be more immersed in the VR world than outside if there was only a choice of one or the other. This is also just for the headset, not even getting into full-body tracking. I would love for the headset to be wireless but If it causes some game or features to be unplayable then forget it. And after all the advances, whatever chart spreads out in wherever which direction, the single most furthest end point is Full dive VR. I just hope some company out there is also doing research into the brain (like elon).

    Although all the games and bar and movie theater stuff is neat and cool they really need to jump on the DO REAL WORK with VR. Common VR programmers! CNC 3D fab creators who design and test metal parts need you to get with VR programmers asap. Either that or I will just think META as a pure gaming company instead.

    The deckard is not made to kill the quest. The quest is not made to kill the deckard/index. People not willing to spend as much money on vr will buy the quest. People looking for something better and willing to spend more money will buy the deckard. Index/deckard and quest are made with completely different people in mind. We still know nothing about the deckard past those leaks/datamines.

    I did cover the lack of games to play in the video if you watched it :) You don’t need to connect to steamVR to play games also, I think the quest headsets have proven that quite well. But there are actually games coming out for it using hand tracking like demeo for example. There is no other enthusiasts Wireless headsets out there, the quest pro is easily replaceable by the quest 3.

  • @Kadvler
    @Kadvler5 ай бұрын

    Depends on the customer IMO. I’ve used both inside out tracking and lighthouse tracking. I much prefer the lighthouse as its tracking is a lot better especially in blind spots like behind your back for example, very useful in fast paced games. But of course, if you don’t want to spend the extra money, don’t mind worse tracking or you just like to play on the go and don’t want to worry about what room you want to play you’ll want to go with an inside out. Like always, depends on the customer :) PS: The bigscreen beyond uses lighthouses and that’s done great.
