    I will never understand why people don’t like innovation in vacuum technology like Dyson consistently does, they love brands that never improve their product line and often collect old junk and recommend products that use old dated technology that’s bad for the environment as well as wasteful.

    I’ve had dysons for years. Got tired of cleaning filters and pulling all the bits apart to clean. Never mind the junk battery with Dyson! Got the Henry and wouldn’t look back. All dust is trapped in the bag that also acts as a filter. Cleans better. Only downside I can find is that it is slightly heavier but hardly noticeable and I can sacrifice this as it’s almost half the price of Dyson. I would 100% recommend the Henry all day long!

  • @VacuumFacts
    @VacuumFacts6 күн бұрын

    Something's wrong then. The filters shouldn't get that dirty. It's possible to go for months without needing to rinse it, e.g. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmek1LqLXcTLf8o.html without issues or loss of performance. You don't need to pull any bits apart to clean. In fact, you don't need to clean it. What were you doing with it? The major downsides of the Henry design you glossed over are evidenced clearly in all the reviews. It's also completely false they clean better and there is hard data for that. You also, unsurprisingly, didn't mention which model of either machine you were talking about.

    If you have mainly hard surfaces, you absolutely want the fluffy head. It does not throw nearly as much debris as the motorbar. Our dogs shed a lot and bring in a tonne of dust and the fluffy head does a way better job on hardwood and laminate. I am due for a new Dyson and would not consider only having a motorbar. It does work amazingly on carpet though!

  • @VacuumFacts
    @VacuumFacts10 күн бұрын

    The motorbar doesn't throw debris under real-world usage. There's also no evidence one performs better than another in real-world situations. People may subjectively 'feel' otherwise and like it more though.

    @@VacuumFactsNo, in the five years I've been using both on a weekly basis it's 'fact' that the fluffy head works better on hard surfaces and throws less debris. I don't have a video to back it up, just countless weeks of using both heads and experimenting lol

    >> "@VacuumFacts Fair enough, though I think this video does a better job than yours of comparing the two heads; kzread.info/dash/bejne/qaVhpMmYcdasadI.html" My video doesn't attempt to compare the heads under real-world representative conditions. This was explicitly stated in the video description. This was just a silly entertainment video to appease that audience. The video you pointed to also doesn't show meaningful real-world representative conditions. Worse, it doesn't state that and implies it's a meaningful comparison. And, almost a moot point, but the head being used in that video is a much, much older design without the gates of the more recent head, so obviously it's not going to work as well for large particles-that's why that old head was updated. So, to conclude that video "does a better job than yours of comparing the two heads" is absurd on many levels when you break it down and look beyond the cosmetic. The reality is, under real-world representative conditions, both heads do comparable jobs. One is just more practical to use in mixed-flooring homes.

    Hello. I think you underestimate the change of the nylon bristles a bit : it makes a big difference with more dense pile. I am currently testing the dyson lineup from the gen5 down to the v8 and especially with the v8 using the gen5 head it makes a huge difference in performance (i am testing with certified test dust - the same used in IEC standard). Also the v15 is performing better with the gen5 head - but it performs also better while just using the gen5 brush. Sadly dyson made some changes in the diameter and the length of the brushes so you experience some rattle noise while using it with the v15 head (at least the one i have - its from the first batches delivered). I would recommend to use the gen5 head with every older model (if it will ever be available to buy - current situation really sucks regarding replacement parts). Sadly you can not use the older brushes (lenght is different, diameter is different and the front cap at the brushmotor changed) with the gen5 head to gather more data or use the older cleaning heads with the gen5 due to the minor connector change (at least not without modifying the older ones). I made a video about the results of the gen5 and v8 - usually i am doing more vacuum robot related stuff. Regards

    Please can you evidence and quantify “the change of the nylon bristles”? Presumably you mean wear. If you didn’t, then it’s not clear what you’re talking about, why it’s meaningful, or how you’ve concluded I’ve ‘underestimated the change of the nylon bristles’. I’ve reviewed your test methodology and it is not satisfactory to draw any convincing conclusions from it. The most obvious problems I noticed were that • You didn’t specify carpet backing type; its porosity strongly determines results. • You didn’t say how you controlled distribution of test dust to ensure homogeneity. • You simply pressed down on the test dust, which doesn’t simulate fibre motion and representative embedding, and why controlled brushing is better. • You showed variable numbers of passes over same area to collect datapoints, particularly in later passes (e.g. V8 with Gen5 head), which is clearly unrepresentative. I’ve not yet seen any other source on YT which doesn’t suffer from obvious issues with testing methodology.

Just got myself a v12 origin and within the first few days, i've already done almost all the things that you aren't supposed to do with it (wiping the bin seals, trying to "deep clean" it since it sucks out so much dirt in my space,...) partly because I thought a dyson would require as much maintainance as other vacuums thanks to other vacuum review channels before finding out about your channel. Not only did I learn so much about how to properly use a dyson, all my questions regarding the vacuum are also answered, namely the way the cyclones work, how often we need to wash the filter, how dyson seperate dirt and the engineering feats of dyson vacuums overall. Before this I was quite interested in vacuum tech and have used a couple of other vacuums from China cause they're cheap and available in my country, it is fascinating to find out about all the tech in a dyson via your coherent, clear and understandable way, simply incredible. Too bad this isn't the gold standard of how you review stuff on the internet, i've fallen for quite a lot of shit people circulating around just because they use their vacuums inappropriately and blame the technology for not working as expected, i've also took a look at your comments and the fact you're clarifying all the facts and all the propaganda that people throw in till this day using hard, evidence based tests and measurements is amazing, love it. After using my Dyson, I have to say currently, they are clearly light years ahead of the competition (if you can even call it competition). Hopefully some interesting stuff happens in the future. By the way, is it normal for the filters to have light fraying on the non-HEPA part, and is it by design choice that the wand and other attachments are slightly loose when connected to the vacuum ?

  • @VacuumFacts

    Yes, the premotor filter is essentially a bunch of fibres, so they become frayed with rinses. But they still filter fine. I am 73 years old. Over all these years I have owned many vacuum cleaners. I bought a Dyson V11 2 years ago at Costco on sale at $399.00. I had paid as much as $700.00 many years before and never had a vacuum cleaner near as good as this Dyson vacuum. I was a factory rep for a Carpet Mfg for 40 years and did inspections on carpet performance complaints. Many were vacuum cleaner-related. I would always inspect the customer's vacuum cleaner for problems. Beater bar issues were a significant cause of problems causing snags if there was a protruding problem on the bar. As far as Dysons go the carpet would stay looking new longer because the power in removing very small particles was superior. These particles act as a file on the fibers and dull the luster thus making traffic patterns more visible by a huge degree. Buy Dyson, you can't go wrong!

    They're engineered to be the best known how. The other manufacturers copy at the customers' expense to bypass the expensive R&D. It would depend on the carpet itself and abrasion by other materials will affect wear just as much.

Customer service conceded that the part is out of stock with no date for when it will be available (this is a HUGE problem with Dyson), so the unit had to be replaced. Dyson offered to ship us an exchange as soon as UPS received the defective unit. We recorded this conversation. Nevertheless, the next day, after we delivered the defective unit to UPS, customer service informed us that this was untrue. Dyson would not do an immediate exchange, but would ship a new unit only after it received and processed the unit, which would take up to 3 weeks (while Dyson sat on our money and the warranty triggered by our initial purchase continued to run.) In short, Dyson lied. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was assured that supervisor would call me back. No call. Dyson lied again. Even before we bought the unit, we got a bad taste of Dyson’s honesty. Customer service assured us that Dyson would price-match QVC’s sale price. This, too, proved to be untrue. Yet another lie. Yup. You've got to watch the marketing types and fact check their half-truths. And yet I'm called 'biased' for pointing out things like this by people who champion feelings over facts. It's also not the number of cyclones that's important. In fact, Dyson's next model is reducing the number of cyclones in operation depending on flow current in a given mode to maximise their effectiveness. Marketing assume people are very, very stupid (which, for the most part, is sadly true due to a total failure of the state to educate in critical thinking) and suggest 'more' and 'bigger' is automatically better. Using less to achieve more is really what's better.

    @@VacuumFacts Oh yeah I heard about what they're planning for the new model. That's pretty smart, considering that on a low power mode, trying to distribute the lesser airflow throughout all of the cyclones would mean more fine dust gets through, so having it shut off some of the cyclones to adapt is very clever.

They use the most advanced polymers around and are evidenced beyond all reasonable doubt to be durable, especially relative to the competition (see all the official durability testing videos online for a start). And then there's the warranty of 2 years, which is more than enough to show problems if it really is 'cheap, creaky and brittle'. This is a complete misconception, unsupported by evidence, and at odds with reality. The only thing you got right was the price tag. I agree with many others who commented. Dyson ball Cylinder corded are the best vacuums Dyson ever made (not the tall uprights but the standard looking ones like the big ball animal/ multifloor etc). If used with a Turbine brush and not the standard flat head it mostly comes with, it will beat anything on the matket. They have the best suction with deep clean and removes all hair. Avoid cordless as their batteries degrade, limited runtime, not much suction and very expensive that's why they have these gimmicks now like the green light to see crumbs on the floor and lcd screen to switch between normal and maximum power but u can't use normal as it doesn't pick anything up so u have to use max power but that isnt advised as battery and motor can't handle it. They sell the upright corded still but u can barely do one room as its really heavy to manoeuvre and exhausting and im over 6 ft and quite fit and still it ain't good as the discontinued ball cylinders. Its a big step backwards for Dyson

    The cylinders didn't perform as well as the other formfactors, as the data shows. Having owned all, I can confirm the latest Dyson cordless cleaners are considerably beyond their mains powered machines. They have comparable performance using much less power (as the data clearly shows), are far easier to use, facilitate bite-sized cleaning, are easier to empty, quieter, and have much better HEPA filtration. The shortcomings you emphasise are simply not a problem in practical use in typical homes. Furthermore, post 2025 when the new battery technology revolution starts, they'll be quantum leaped again. The new design features in the next generation of cordless coming are very impressive.

    It was a huge mistake to stop developing these in parallel to cordless models. Cordless vacuums can never replace corded models for a number of reasons all of which being physics related. One can't change the laws of physics. Both designs have their strengths and weaknesses and should be used for the right task.

    @@VacuumFacts By design cordless vacuums are top heavy and have very limited runtime and capacity and you can't increase either of these without making them very uncomfortable to use due to their weight. For instance can feel all that weight in your hand even on their relatively light and most popular V15. I'm not even talking about outsize models, as they are virtually unusable for most people. So there's pretty nothing nothing you can do about it, as you can't make cordless vacuum bottom heavy. It will simply hinder their versatility. In fact according to many users and many reviews the only cordless Dyson that is not cumbersome to use is V12 and it's very limited by its bin capacity. But it has very small bin and not as good for carpets cleaning. All their relatively light models are limited by only 60min runtime at min power. On practice no one is going to use it at min power, so the actual runtime is going to be even less, than that. And so cleaning a large house with cordless vacuum is not practical. It's only suitable for small or relatively clean spaces that don't require much cleaning. Corded vacuums on the other hand always have been and always will be more suitable for large spaces that require long cleaning sessions. And didn't even mention how ineffective modern battery technologies are and that drawing power directly from the wall is always much more effective and doesn't require wasting time on recharge or money on a new battery that inevitably going to lose its capacity and rather sooner than later.

  • @VacuumFacts
    @VacuumFacts2 ай бұрын

    >>”Cordless vacuum runtime and capacity are very limited by design and you can't increase either of these without increasing its weight and making it very uncomfortable to use.” Run time is determined by the power consumption and battery capacity. Poorly designed machines with weak and inferior technology require large heavy batteries and multiple of them to get decent runtimes. It has been established with good design that you can have run times sufficient to perform typical cleaning sessions with performance greater than even good mains machines without large weights. There is thus plenty of evidence showing that cordless can replace mains cleaners. As for bin capacity, the capacity in good designs is enough to last for a cleaning session and the emptying in said good designs takes 5 seconds without mess, making it superior to even the best mains machine emptying methods. Again, this conflicts with the suggestion that mains machines can’t replace cordless-at least when referring to best in class of each. >>”Pair this with the fact that cordless vacuums are top heavy and quite have already. You can feel all that weight in your hand much more than with bottom heavy corded models or canister vacuums that have most of the weight in a separate block altogether.” When used on floor, it is false to suggest you can feel the weight in your hand much more. The lower mass of (good) cordless machines also reduces inertia, making it feel much lighter to push than bottom-heavy mains machines. For above floor cleaning, good cordless machines (that have enough power to clean with simultaneous long run times) are typically 3 kg or less. The best machines are not overly tiring to use above floor and the much greater ease of use than corded machine is a much better use case. Furthermore, next gen battery technology looking to be released in late 2025 will quite revolutionise cordless cleaners. >> “runtime is only 60min at min power, which on practice is not going to be effective to use, especially if there's a lot of dirty carpets.” This is a misunderstanding consigned to the bin long ago. You can get a run time in auto mode enough to complete a reasonable cleaning session with performance superior to even good mains machines. People don’t like the whole-house mega clean chore anymore and habits have evolved now into bite-sized cleaning, which this formfactor champions. Run time is simply not a good argument anymore. >> “…cleaning a large house with cordless vacuum is not practical. It's only suitable for small or relatively clean spaces that don't require much cleaning.” This is complete nonsense as well. We bite size cleaning now and you can do a large house, as plenty of people show online >>”Corded vacuums on the other hand always have been and always will be more suitable for large spaces that require long cleaning sessions.” This is again false. Cordless machines are used in commercial environments quite successfully, conflicting badly with your claim. Weight, bin capacity, and run time tropes are your primary justifications for cordless not being able to replace corded. These have been debunked many years ago. Also, I’m still missing these ‘physics reasons’ you referred to (distinct from correct language associated with physical properties and practicalities of use).

If it wasn't that the machine cost more money than bags, you'd probably just throw the entire machine into landfill and get another when it was full. I don't believe it suddenly stopped because of the filter. That makes no sense. The only way it would 'suddenly stop' because of a filter is if it's completely blocked. The only way it would block to that extent on a Dyson is through complete neglect, as evidenced beyond all reasonable doubt in basic testing ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6l6krNpqJa2aKg.html ), let alone an understanding of the associated science. Plenty of evidence filters don't block e.g. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmek1LqLXcTLf8o.html . A bag is the exact same as a filter (except in the original cyclonic system, it's a last line of defense that sees virtually nothing under correct usage). So, if a Dyson 'suddenly stops', then a bag will 'suddenly stop' too since it's the same thing. And arguing Numatic cleaners last much longer is nonsense and unsupported by any reputable evidence. The idea you can empty a bag by sticking your finger in there is silly, since it doesn't remove the blocking micro particles, as evidenced here kzread.info/dash/bejne/g4iHw8aInZm9o6w.html and in performance testing in this video. They lack knowledge of basic science, as will be revealed, and cannot be trusted, no matter what they say. You took a used and no doubt abused product and almost certainly didn't do what was specified in the video, did things you're not supposed to do, and then complain it still smells. Probably didn't correctly rinse the filter, probably didn't use microsponges...and so on. Yawn
