Even casual players noticed this change in sc2. They reduced the depth, made it so players don't stand out from each other as much.

To be honest, I only put GSL as background noise nowadays. I'm not a player, so speaking just from a viewer perspective, the meta seems kinda repetitive and the game itself is too fast paced to see more strategy (which i love about BW). Haven't been really invested for the last 2 years, though the season with round-robin groups was quite refreshing. Still hope GSL carries on as a lot of fans enjoy it, and it keeps Statetosis paid!

a lot of SC2 pros are looking into new RTS releases like Stormgate or Battle Aces instead. Ragnarok himself was looking at battle aces trailer and comparing reaction of bw players on sc2 players back then, altho he did comment that nothing new seems to have surpassed sc2 altho a lot of sc2 pros were thinking about moving on. Parting made some comments about SG not looking as bright on future wise/design unit wise on crank's channel I think

There is another video of Jaedong where he talks about winner mentality. Basically the gist is: I know how i was the top brood war player. I know how much work there is going to be, I know how to practice, so I can do the same in sc2. Which he became very successful in sc2. He also said he goofed off in sc2 which is why started to decline and pulled himself back by remembering that previous winner mentality.

This type of mentality is really apparent in certain progamers. Effort and Jyj immediately come to mind. Even in ASL 11 where Effort made himself the group of death, he was still willing to go down kicking, not once regretting his decisions. That's truly what makes a player dangerous in a tournament setting. For Jyj, you can tell even at the beginning of his rise (when he started taking games off prime Queen and Bisu), he wasn't afraid of anyone, and his attitude in interviews and group selection radiated confidence.

I am not sure if this has something to do with the Korean mentality. Basically, in order to succeed one must suffer. Cannot go out, eat bad food, call yourself a "useless piece of trash" if they cannot deliver. I would argue that these players would have achieved more with better coaching and regimes.
