Thanks! I believe you are talking about the practical test for the manicure license exam. This video is for the manicure done during the cosmetology license exam. Here's a link to Ohio State Board's website cos.ohio.gov/getting-licensed/exams/exams . Click on "cosmetology" tab & then scroll down to the title "testing information packets" you can click on "cosmetology practical testing packet" to see all the cosmetology license exam graded task lines or if you are just doing the manicure license exam click on the practical testing packet for the manicure license exam. The manicure tests are different depending on which license you're testing for. There's also a tab for the new blood spill for the manicure license exam. I hope this helps :)

my school has a makeup remover step for our state board facial (im in ohio). there’s something that needs to be labeled ‘makeup remover’ per my school… is this the same step as removing the cleanser? or is it the first step before the cleanser?

Cosmetology is fine with just cleanser instead of specificly using makeup remover too. We use cleanser to show removing lip & eye makeup. Then we use the cleaner to cleanse the face as well. For the ohio cos task lines it doesn't specify you have to use make up remover. You can go to cos.ohio.gov/getting-licensed/exams/exams click on "cosmetology" then click on "cosmetology practical testing information" & you can see exactly what they will test & grade you on.

For Ohio Cosmetology Exam: No, they don't have to wear gloves (it's not mentioned on the test packet that gloves are a graded task). Students just need to sanitize their hands 1st.

No, gloves are not a task line to earn or loose points on for the manicure. You must sanitize your hands before starting & then separately sanitize your fake hand tho.

I also have one more question. what would be a decent amount of space to leave for the cuticle, so points don’t get taken off for not covering the whole nail?

@@punkprinc3ss That is a great question. I tell my students to try to just leave space for a strand of hair, which sounds impossible but the point is that it should just be very slight. You are getting as close as you can without it seeping on to the glove. If you leave anything bigger than that (another example could be the lead of a mechanical pencil) they could take the points for "covering the whole nail". I hope that helps.

No, we don't do a steam towel for the Ohio Cosmetology exam. You will have to check with the board if it's the Esthetic exam or if you're in another state.

Its your choice. We use to use the same one as the hair portion, but now we have our students take a shaved mannequin to use for the facial. You can check the Ohio State Board of cosmetology www.cos.ohio.gov/EXAM-SCHOOL-INFO/COSMETOLOGY-EXAMINATIONS-INFORMATION for all exam info including mannequin head requirements for more info :)

Sorry, I just saw this. The task line doesn't specify that you have to use nail clippers...just that you have to change the length & shape. (This is just the fastest easiest method we teach for our students to do that. )

Hi, yes you can- just make sure you are alternating your hands as you lift away from the face in order to maintain "constant contact."
