    Hi Tom , great work looking at building some cabinets myself for self imposed shed time, thankyou for sharing your knowledge. From video looks can tell, did you use 18mm MDF? Is there any difference if using 15mm from your experience? Thanks Vic

  • @TomMagicWoodworking
    @TomMagicWoodworking3 күн бұрын

    Hi, I'm glad you liked the cabinets. Yes, they were made in 18mm MDF mainly because 18mm Is more readily available in the builders merchants than 15 mm mdf, plus i had some in stock. Other than that, there is no reason why you can't use 15mm mdf. It will be just as strong. One word of warning make sure your hinges work with 15mm mdf as some are set up for 18mm. How are most mass manufactured MDF cabinets (kitchen) joined? I am curious as to how much weight the bottom "shelves" can handle.

  • @TomMagicWoodworking
    @TomMagicWoodworking25 күн бұрын

    hi it depends on who makes them but for most of them they are screwed and doweled together. Also what you will find is the legs screwed to the bottom of the cabinets over lap the side panels to help carry the weight if that makes sense. So in a word they can handle quite a lot of weight i hope this helps. Thanks for watching

    @@TomMagicWoodworking Yes I figured it must be dowels or tongue and groove something like that. Either that they'd have to nail it from the outside and then cover it with the "veneer".

    Great job Tom very organised. Do you have any more information on working out the drawer spacing. I get the width and depth part but how do you irk out your spacing. Are you finding internal height from inside bottom to to top then deduct your 10mm spacing then dividing by how many drawers you have ?? Do you have a set calculation 👍

  • @TomMagicWoodworking
    @TomMagicWoodworking2 ай бұрын

    Hi, with the draw spacing, you pretty much have the grasp of how I go about it, ie.I dividing up the internal height and divid it by the drawers. That might change some times if I have different size drawer fronts. I have to be honest I have not come up with a hard and fast rule how to set them out.sorry, I can't be of any more help it's something I just tend to get stuck into and adjust as I go. Trouble with this type of machine is that the abrasive stays same shape so holds the dust and just clogs. Real speed sanders have long belts which change shape as they go around but those machines cost a fortune in comparison. The abrasives on this cheap type machine need changing a lot. You often see these up for sale, secondhand for that reason.

  • @TomMagicWoodworking
    @TomMagicWoodworking2 ай бұрын

    I have to be honest. I rarely suffer with that problem on this machine only Sometimes. with softwood. And this machine gets used every other week. Thanks for watching.

  • @jimpackard8059
    @jimpackard80592 ай бұрын

    Maybe the motor overheating is caused by the wrong amperage supply. I do not think that they are meant to run on 13 amp supply but maybe 16 amp ? Also, the motor might overheat if the air cannot get out through the filter. Maybe it is dirty ? Did it overheat from new ? I would suggest that you re-fit the brand new original standard bag for a test. If that does not overheat your motor - it looks like the filter at fault.

  • @TomMagicWoodworking
    @TomMagicWoodworking2 ай бұрын

    It is running on a 16 amp supply. The motor has plenty of air flow around it. It has been this way since new. The manufacturer specifies that this machine will overheat after a set period of time.

  • @jimpackard8059
    @jimpackard80592 ай бұрын

    It may not have been on the website when you bought the unit but I see that Charnwood say on website that it is not for continuous use. It will have intermittently rated motor. It is not specified for that usage. I would not be happy if that feature was not listed at time of sale.

    Hi very nice presentation. I have two questions. 1- to cut the rubber, how do you do that when you have only one track ? Where should I put my saw when I do the the first cut? Should I cut the rubber by itself ? Or I should a piece of plywood under it and do the cut at the same time? 2- I like to replace my blade , what kind of blade do you recommend? Thanks for your input.

  • @TomMagicWoodworking

    Hi, I have to be honest. I have only ever done the first cut when I had 2 tracks, but If i was doing it with one track I would start about 6 inches in from the end and finish with a sharp Stanley knife. Also I would do the first cut on top of a piece of plywood.As for the blade It depends what work you're doing, but I would replace like-for-like. So , in other words as long as the tpi is the same and it's a good make Doesn't really matter. Hope this helps thanks for watching.
