This video is so good. I always cringe a little when I see reactions like this because it's always some person playing the whole album and occasionally saying something like "wow" or making faces. You're making effort to read into the songs and the picture the artist is painting, even timing your song jumpcuts artistically so you aren't wasting time or incentivizing people using your video as a way to just listen to the album, while still keeping our listen-along sonically sound (do you like the wordplay?)... keep this format up. I subscribed.

I thought I was the only one that can't listen to "Not Like Us" regularly because it makes me think about the real-world side of the allegations. It's like separating the art from itself, it still means the same thing.

Not like us had to be a bop and everyone knew of it, so that at least young girls he is hitting up on are not caught unaware in the future at least. Good strategy.

7 Minute Drill was actually pretty sweet and worth a read. I honestly don’t know why he felt so guilty…most of it is literally like “I’m hesitating, I love my brother” and “I don’t wanna do this, I fck with him” and “I’m getting texts to be in a toxic discourse, I don’t want to be in one.” Also, the accent line in Euphoria is about how Drake takes on accents to code switch (Caribbean, Atlanta, American).

I understand your Not Like Us reaction. When i hear what feels like half of the talk being, "Kendrick's up," or, "he won the battle," it makes me feel pretty bleak about the whole thing. Once we're talking about predators and a trafficking ring it really isn't about that anymore. The implications of Kendrick lying to the world about something so serious is pretty heavy, but I hope he lied and there are a few less Weinstein/Epstein types out there than the other way round. It makes me want it to be just a beef between two flawed musicians and you can just enjoy the competition like a tennis match. But if he's not lying... I think there's a lot to be said both in Kendrick's work and in the culture of the last decade about what justice looks like when you cant trust the law to deliver it. Weinstein was operating for over 20 years before he was arrested. For Cosby it was twice that. That radio guy that was famous in the UK was only exposed after he died. On the other hand, is death justice? If some people were sent to take care of Drake, is that gonna change the people around him, the people that think like him? Thinking about different scenarios of people trying to take action and how the world would be better or worse in any of them, i feel like one of the better ones is millions of people singing, "they not like us, they not like us," about a group of (at least symbolically with the worst allegations) pdf files all summer and having a magnifying glass, a culture that's ready to hear any news on them acting up that makes it a lot harder for Drake to move that way and hurt more people. Not Like Us after Meet the Grahams is relentless, meant to be a threat that this path is not available. If you're in the rap game and you have these habits, you probably shouldn't try to get big enough to be on Kendrick Lamar's radar. I probably wouldn't like these songs if something comes out and disproves the trafficking allegations. I already dont like that so many people thought hiding a daughter was more scandalous. But i think doing it like this and not just calling the cops is a strategic decision that i don't hate. That changes if he was hiding some of that knowledge for long enough, of course. And its why i like Euphoria the most, because i dont have these reservations about it. 6:16 really was confessing his sins ahead of time because he really got dirty there. I haven't looked for this, but I'm sure that for all the celebration and healing there are lots of people with their own trauma that had bad ptsd responses to those last two, the last one being inescapable for a lot of people.

I still remember where I was when Untitled Unmastered came out. Leaving my friends house late at night, jamming to TPAB, playing video games, then as I get into my car and search up TPAB on my phone, boom, new album by Kendrick Lamar: Untitled Unmastered. Had the craziest 1 hour drive home. Legit couldn't believe what I was hearing. K-Dot is him fr.

Now go listen to it reverse order! My mind was blown years later when I learned this project was designed to be listened from top to bottom or bottom to top. I think Kendrick summarized it best when saying the story doesn’t change so much as the feel of the album does! Which is also a bit of an under sell.

I love everything about this album. Especially the song "u". One of the most relatable i've ever listened to. Kendrick Lamar’s “u” talks a lot about his internal and also external battles. When Lamar says, “loving you is complicated.” I believe he is talking to himself but is also quoting how others feel about him as well. The external battle is shown a lot in the second verse when he says, “A friend never leave Compton for profit or leave his best friend little brother, you promised you’d watch him before they shot him, where was your antennas, on the road bottles and bitches..” This part of the second verse highlights the external battle a lot. Leaving Compton for profit is what Kendrick had to do because of touring and business, but his friends think he’s leaving them. This is a stretch but I believe that a friend of Kendrick asked him to watch over his little brother. Asking where he was when his little brother got shot and Kendrick is hurt beside he was on the road partying and performing instead of watching his little brother. This is all a stretch but it’s what his lyrics say to me. 🖤🐛🦋🎧🎼
