My grandfathers cheated his age to get away from his life in Scotland and he done three tours in Northern Ireland and he said the Irish was very proud people and they never had it easy with the British army when he finished his last tour he never went back

A few years ago my mum died from dementia but even in her dotage, even though she didn't who I was, she still knew the words to this song. I saw Johnny in a petrol station in Enniskerry late at night, but didn't want to him feel awkward by telling him this story. She loved this song along with Paddy Reillys The spanish lady
