    I had the problem of low oil pressure in my 05 Xterra, when I was idling the needle went lower than L and the oil light came on and when I accelerated the needle went up to the middle. The first fix was to change the oil sensor, the oil pump and the relief valve, even so the problem continued. The second fix was to change the oil gallery timing gasket and after that the needle only goes down a little before the letter L but the oil light no longer comes on.

    Both cam position sensors are in the back of the cylinder head. In this video, the valve covers are off (due to another reason) so the sensors are very easy to access.

    Dont grease the outside of the bushing. Only the face and the inside. Greasing the outside of the bushing will make a grinding paste over time and wear out your bushings faster. You grease the inside of the bushing, because thats where you want the rotation to happen.

    I've been running the same OME leaf springs on my 2012 Xterra. Been very happy with ride quality and performance, but after 100k miles I've lost an inch of the 1.5 inch lift it gave me when it was new. Now I'm trying to decide if I should replace with new leaf packs, add a leaf or install longer after market shackles. Any feedback?

    This video and Ry the Car Guy's video are the ones I used to get the advice on changing those out. Ry tended to downplay some of the difficulty of removing and installing new springs. "Boy! Am I glad that's over!"was a spot-on comment! I did go with Nisstec's products, except for the recessed U-bolt plate kit from All Dogs, pulling the U-bolts up on the side of the springs to gain a little more clearance from those. For those with hitches, I found I needed to get farther under and pull the bolts for the muffler and the hoses next to that bracket in order to pull the shackle from the passenger side. I still had to use a ratchet strap to move it far enough away and hold it to slide it out. I also removed the plastic rear farings. That was so I could get at the bolts with an impact. I attempted to remove the front bolt first on one, thinking what's the difference? Well... Like Jeremy said, the shackle moves. "That's it's job." Remove that front bolt first, and that shackle will move like an MF! Using the jack "right" means having a jack low enough to allow the axle to drop nearly right into place. It's difficult to see in the video, but the reference hole for the peg in the leafs is rotated upward with the only thing holding it up at this point being the stabilizer bar, you can rotate that down into place when you're inches away from the leafs. Only some slight finessing, and you should be able to pop those U-bolts and the plates on. Originally planning to replace the shackle with Nisstec's adjustable lift shackle, I didn't clean the originals up right away. Seeing the distance I'd have to drop the axle, I wasn't sure how I was going to make the intended 2" max lift distance, so I put the originals back on once I had used a scraper, but then seeing the pitting on the lower shaft, I took a grinder with a wire wheel to them. That pitting was pretty thorough, so I did what I could. Used it on the inside of the plate to get the remains of the old bushing and, "Bob's your uncle!" The ride is so much better! No rocking backwards when it starts. No rocking forward when it stops. So much better when going over even speed bumps in the parking lot. I could feel the leafs hitting on the bumps stops all the time when going through the apartment complex. Not anymore. The old ones had 160-some thousand miles on them. They'd served their purpose. I also made the comment on David Romero's comment about loosening the bolts on the ground "under load" about using heat to loosen the bolts. I did... but with grinding with a cutoff wheel on a grinder and replacement bolts on hand.

I have on my frontier pickup 5 leaf springs plus 1 overload, i wonder if the lower overload is actually necessary since you will not be carrying as much weight as a pickup truck. I filled it up with fire wood heavy wet stuff plus industrial canopy 300 lbs plus 200 lb of ladders.

Many other videos out there are either geared up for the experienced do it yourselfers or simply horribly produced. Something to keep in mind with these. The springs have the same part number BUT they're not exactly the same. They're stamped with either a plus or a minus. The one with the plus is slightly stiffer and belongs on the right side.

  • @DPrent
    @DPrent Жыл бұрын

    Looks like he had both + in this video

  • @offroadxterra2580
    @offroadxterra2580 Жыл бұрын

    Wrong! The springs will either have a minus, zero or plus stamped on it. The minus is under spec for stiffness, zero is at spec for stiffness, and plus is over spec for stiffness. If you have springs that are stamped differently the one with the higher stiffness ALWAYS goes on the driver (left) side to compensate for the weight of the driver and the fuel tank (which is on the left side also).

    Let's review. You "guess" I paid a lot of money for the grease I used. Wrong, I didn't. You think Super Lube is "literally exact same product". Wrong, it's not. Lifted about 1 3/4”. Improved ride. Smoother. Stronger. Softer too. How can this be? No squeaks at all! Well worth the $1,175.00 price tag. I installed myself with OME U bolts and rear anti sway bar relocation kit. No need for shims. No vibration or rattle. This is how the Xterra should have come out of the factory. Great product. 👍
