  1 per 7 years. Pathetic. In WW2, we were building a dozen or more per year starting in '43. We should be building smaller carriers at a faster pace with each task force having a min of two carriers.

  When we SHUT DOWN our heavy industry 30 years ago ( Nafta/GATT ) I asked a friend who thought it was a good idea, for the " environmental cause " she said ....... my question was, WHAT do we do in the event of a major " conflict " and our Navy gets shot up or ships sunk and we need replacements ....... she said we'd JUST MAKE NEW ONES ...... She got really confused and her eyes glazed over when i explained that she and her " ENVIRONMENT " had just made THAT impossible ....... Thank You stupid people !

  The Ford was the very first of a whole new super carrier design strategy. Just because they had to work out the bugs in this enormously complicated weapons system over a 5 to 7 year time frames does NOT mean all follow-ups in this ship class will take that long! Jeez I love it when someone with limited knowledge draws a hare brained conclusion. That simply doesn’t make sense if one really stops and logically thinks it through.

  We need to get the USS Kennedy on duty ASAP. Two Ford class carriers pack a lot of offensive punch. And when Enterprise comes online that is even better. Moreover, any Nimitz class carriers that are decommissioned need to be kept in a state where they can be brought back to service ASAP.

  One solution would be to sub contract building them to Chinese shipyards . They can build them at a more rapid rate than the Americans .
