Welcome to Great Owl Running

About Adam
Hi, I'm Adam. I am a trail runner and like to document some of my races. I have completed a handful of Ultra Marathons, a number of fell races and countless other things in between. I have had my share of injuries too! I am a not particularly fast runner, my videos are more about my experience as a runner and my videos are more about sharing the joy that running brings me and others around me.

    Good video, Adam, really cool to watch this race as you were going through it. You always manage to film great bits like other runners joining you in the conversation and steam trains going past just at the right time, beautiful! Plus I liked the neverending vertical bits. Weldone!

    I ran the Sprint and really enjoyed it. That first hill is brutal! Maybe I'll take on the Super or Ultra next year. Thanks for putting the work in to get it going Adam. I'll see you at the Steeplechase next month!

    I ran the Sprint and thought the event was great. In regard to the Sprint I think one water station is sufficient, I personally didn’t use it and carried 2x 500ml bottles which was enough. I thought the route diversion down Caley Crags near Leeds road route was good and a better option than the original route, not only for the trail but also made the road crossing safer as you had better line of sight instead of coming out right on the corner. The road crossing after Bramhope coming back onto the Chevin was fairly bad to be honest, if the course routed maybe 50M up the road before crossing you would not be on the corner and have a better view. Will definitely be entering next years event and look at the Shadwell race. You can tell effort goes into the maps, best design and layout I have seen! Thanks for hosting it.

    Well done Adam! Was it on the same day as Pendle Cloughs the English champs? It was such a hot day, and you guys didn't have any shade there at all. Thank you for filming it, it was nice to watch the route with your commentary. I hope you recover well from your injury. You looked good running downhill.

    Videoing mid race means you're not really racing. And you're likely annoying those around you. It's just not fell running.

  • @AdamNodwell
    @AdamNodwell4 ай бұрын

    I know a few people who would disagree with this. But yeah let’s let the sport I love fail to evolve and be lost in time and troll each other online instead, far more productive.

  • @runwithme9643
    @runwithme96434 ай бұрын

    @dwell it's just my opinion, I'm not trolling you. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean they're trolling you. Everyone I know who's has been around fell racing for more than a couple years agrees with me - but that's only anecdote just like yours - and include multiple Fell champions past and present as well as other legends of the sport you'll be familiar with. It's an evolution away from the core tenants of the sport we love. To my eyes, it's a way for individuals to commodify fell running just like everything else is commodified now. In a seperate angle, whats the point in entering a race if you're not racing? Just taking up another place? What about races that fill up with people who want to race not able to because of gopro look at me runners.

  • @AdamNodwell
    @AdamNodwell4 ай бұрын

    @@runwithme9643 sorry I misunderstood as you stated your opinion as fact. Your opinion sounds a bit elitist to be honest, the hills are for sharing. With regards to “taking the place of serious racers” yeah well let me know when a fell race sells out. I make these videos for the art and to share the fells with people who might not be able to make the races themselves. Also pretty offensive to assume I’m not ‘racing’. Perhaps I’m like many entering races to improve my fitness, so I can race an A Race later down the line. Anyway, I’ve given you far too much thought, thanks for watching.

  • @runwithme9643
    @runwithme96434 ай бұрын

    @@AdamNodwell fell races sell out ALL the time, are you kidding? What of every single champs race and almost all the classic short/mediums along with other popular races. I agree, the hills are for sharing but this is a race, go race it, your performance would be even better if you got your head down and forgot about promoting yourself to an external audience. You aren't racing if you're busy videoing too. Commit fully, you'll go faster and get fitter too. Finally, I think your video quality is excellent in terms of editing and in general capture. You're clearly skilled at it and have a great eye. I simply don't think it's the place to do it for multiple reasons. And many others agree. It's simply not culturally fell running.

    @@AdamNodwell P.S. I hold no ill will to you personally. I disagree with the self promotion of ones self using fell racing as a means to do it.
