Texas hates repurposing. They just take beautiful prairie land and destroy it to build new while letting the established neighborhoods rot.

Why has the city not ordered that it be torn down? I had to walk past the eyesore for years when I worked downtown. Visitors have received a very bad impression of the area.

Stupid No one from Dallas wants to travel to Huston. The flights from DFW to Huston are fast and minimal and cheap $66 for a round trip. $10 Billion high speed train that $$$ costs $500-$600 to ride when you can fly for $66 is crazy stupid. Train delay train $1 Million up keep no fright this is yo $$$ expensive to move letters or fish or crab when ground is $200 for a Simi 18 wheeler is not cost effective. For all Amtrak going bankrupt with out federal subsidies Get A Life.

Houston and Dallas < 60min @ $64 flight. < 3 hr @ $13 drive at night. Bullet train in flood zone < 2 hr @ $400-$500 and to $$ expensive for freight ops. $5 Billion cost to build and $3 Million yearly maintenance. Bankrupt in 4 years. lights today from Houston and Dallas are $ looser and this is not a snow bird or vacation spot or high traffic zone.

This Mall is called Greenspoint mall or a the locals call it GunsPoint. I've witnessed the swat team come out twice to remove Mail shooters. My mom knew the security guard who was found stabbed and thrown in a dumpster. This is not an area anyone truly wants to be in.

At 2:28 you pronounce the name of the store, Palais Royal, as puh-LAY roy-ĂL (like Casino Royale). The correct pronunciation is PĂ-lay ROY-al (with royal pronounced as in English).

I've observed these hotels a few times while visiting Vegas. That area is VERY seedy. Furgeson's is a bright spot but there's really nothing in there that would compel one to spend that much time there. It's just a run down, dangerous and depressing area. Homeless, drunks, drifters wander the streets. You feel unsafe. If you revitalize that area, it's going to turn into another Santa Monica, with "normal" people with money visiting and derelicts and the aggressive mentally ill hassling everyone. Vegas has changed a LOT.

@@ScottDaileyKZreadfor starters, there’s no O in it, it sounds like you are slipping one in at the beginning. Google palais royal pronunciation. Google at least has the Palais correct. Royal is literally pronounced Roy-al, But it’s not a hard pronunciation, it’s got a drawl to the Roy-al. EDIT:::, actually Google’s pronunciation according to my wife is actually very close to how she pronounced it when she worked there.

They should be able to rent rooms for less than the corporate crooks on the strip charge for parking & resort fee. If restored nicely, and the neighborhood cleaned up and made safe overall, I'd think these joints would have a good shot at success.

I grew up in Houston before 610 was built and remember many homes were bought up to build it. From the get go many builders came into Houston and built where ever and in my opinion they screwed Houston. Especially the flooding problem as well as a vital transportation system. Very poor planning by the city it's self. The reason I say this is I do know back in the 70's and even perhaps 60's out at the University of Houston they taught forecast of growth in the southern part of the US. Also there were flooding problems back then. Due to Houston becoming a sanctuary city crime has also escalated. In growing up it saddens me to see what has happened to Houston.
