Your latest hunt for books really yielded some great results I see 🙂, some really, really nice hardbacks and signed editions as well. I do happen to have the Greg Mandel series complete in hardback but I haven't been able to muster up the enthusiasm to start it yet, eventhough Peter F. Hamilton and Alastair Reynolds are probably my joint favourite authors. But we'll see when I get to that trilogy whether I was wrong...

Here in Argentina we kenowed More Than Human (trans. Mas que Humano), The Demolished Man (El Hombre Demolido) Farenheit 451 in editions of Editorial Minotauro. The Caves of Steel (Las Cavernas de Acero) Bring the Jubilee (Lo que el Tiempo se Llevo) and Starship Troopers (Tropas del Espacio) for the spanish editor Martinez Roca. I read and enjoyed all this.- In my opinion here should be a site for Alfred Bester's The Stars my Destination - Tiger Tiger ! (Las Estrellas mi Destino - Tigre Tigre !, Martinez Roca) and Robert Heinlein's The Puppet Masters (Amos de Titeres - Martinez Roca), but is just my opinion.-

I seldom re-read any work of fiction but Sturgeon's "More than human" is that one exception. My first reading was in the mid-1970's when I read dozens of Science Fiction short stories and all the major authors of the day. The last author standing was Theodore Sturgeon so of course I read and very much enjoyed "More than human." During the COVID shut-in I re-read this book and found that I enjoyed it just as much as before. So glad you included this amazing book in your list of "Should Reads!" Great list!!!!!

The true first of 'Take Back Plenty' was an Unwin C format trade paperback with a totally different cover to the Grafton A you have there (I have one of those too). There was a US hardcover which is quite hard to find. It's a Gollancz Masterwork these days of course. Nice 'Kiteworld', you were lucky there, great book. Nice haul, got loads of those myself as you know. I will personally never forgive Gollancz for not issuing 'The Thing Itself' in hardcover. His collection 'Adam Robots' was also a trade paperback original too in D Format (royal had it been a hardcover)- 'Thing' went straight into B format. His latest book - 'The Death of Sir Martin Malprelate' was a trade paperback original too, from Datura Books. I don't think there were any other novels by Adam issued only as paperbacks.

Plot blurb for Galaxias is a bit misleading. It's actually more of a first contact novel. It's brilliantly original take on that trope. One of Baxter's most underrated novels. Whole Wide World is marketed as sf, but it's really a straight crime novel. Very good one though. The Thing Itself is magnificent, a pure literary brilliance. Sundiver is terrible book, Brin's worst effort by far. Sister Alice is good, it was previously published as a series of stories, so it feels a bit episodic. The Quiet War is fantastic. Brasyl I didn't care for that much, but it's been a while since I read it. Integral Trees is my favorite solo Niven. Yes, I think it's better than Ringworld. Excellent video, as always.

Hey, Jon! It always fascinates me that you find books and authors I´ve never heard of. I have a very complicated relation to Feintuch´s Seafort Saga. I liked the first book. I didn´t find it fantastic because of the world-buiding but it wasn´t bad - the following books turned out to be to repetitive for my taste and I stopped reading the fourth book after only a few pages. That rarely happens. Had no luck on the flea market today. Sadly. Have a good week!

14:37 - I read the whole Vorkosigan saga, in the order of internal chronology, novels _and_ novellas, in one continuous binge during the Covid lockdown. It pretty much kept me afloat mentally. Well, _Shards of Honor_ is a bit "lovey dovey", but it suited me then. Others become less so in a various degree. _A Civil Campaign_ might be even more so, as is _Winterfair Gifts,_ but don't let it put you off. Her world building is amazingly realistic, especially when you know that it features one semi-feudal society, Counts, swords and all (among several others, all different, all convincing.) No aliens, though.

Rather than Gibson, I'm recommending Daniel Keys Moran. Start with Emerald Eyes, which is frankly astonishing. The Continuing Time has an epic, vast scope, that defies attempts to measure it. While somewhat incoherent at times, mostly due to Moran taking time off for family and minor, inconsequential things like that, 🙄 thus leaving holes in the continuity, his narrative voice and style far outshines Gibson. I am thinking of reading the Sun Eater series. I'm in the middle of revisiting old friends, Zelazny and Heinlein, so I may wait for the release of book 7. 🙂 😛

yes, great list, classics all. Foundation and Space Beagle were really written in the 40s in short story form, but you're right, they first appeared in book form in the 50s. I'm planning a second episode on the 50s, possibly even a 3rd, and some of those books may well feature. thanks for watching 👀!

Great selection! Joe has shown some exquisite taste as always. And everyone else too. In fact I had Nor Crystal Tears as well as the one of Showboat World on my list too - that were twp of the pictures I wanted to send in my follow-up mail. (Which I have obviously forgotten.... :D ) BTW, Der Wüstenplanet translates into The Desert Planet. The Pip and Flinx books are set in the Humanx Commonwealth (The Iceriggers are also set in the Humanx Commonwealth for example) Till next time, Jon!

I love the Michael Whelan cover for Nor Crystal Tears. I borrowed the book on the beautiful cover alone from the library. First Alan Dean Foster. Highly enjoyable. Wonderful book. So annoyed when the Kindle version had a horrid cover, that made the protagonist look like a roach. Seriously, do they want to turn people off the book?🙄🙄😖

I have a copy but not that one. Mine is OK too art-wise. Not a Whelan tho. 🤷‍♂️
