What do you use as the stencil liner? I like how it looks slightly raised from the background surface. I’d rather use that than painters tape

I have watched soooo many of these videos and everyone always just say a sheet of plywood..........there are soooo many different plywoods and i have taken more time trying to figure out what kind of plywood to get, I probably would be done with the whole build

Just a smooth 3/4" thick 4'x8' sheet of plywood - something like birch or maple or even sanded pine would be fine. A construction grade 3/4" CDX would work also but the bad off gas of fumes would be pretty bad for a while.

Yes, that could work, or you could use 2 layers of 3/4" plywood to make a stronger top surface.

You use so much cold wax medium to create a matte varnish have you ever thought about just using the wax itself and just buff a super light coat onto the painting?

When you buff wax, it gets shiny. Best to lay it down thin and not buff.

I’m just starting this project. Question: If the bottom inside support 2x4’s are 37”, doesn’t the bottom shelf plywood need to be 41”W, not 40”? 37” + the side bottom 2” rails would be 41”. Or am I missing something?

2x4s are actually 1.5" x 3.5" when they are dried and put out for sale - so 37" long cross piece + (2)1.5" would be 40". 4x4s are actually 3.5" x 3.5" as well.

Great video, your painting are so sharp! What do you do to not get any "bleeding" when using oil paint and stencils?

Thanks for watching Lyndon. The paint I use is regular artists oil color which is quite thick and does pretty well to not bleed under the mask/stencil. I do however seal the edges of the mask with a coat of black latex paint just to make sure to block any bleed.

Thanks for watching Vincent - I really appreciate it!! Creating a comfortable studio with good lighting has taken me a couple of years. Having a dedicated space makes it easier to incorporate a painting practice into a busy family life.
