Thanks, what chapter was that? Do you have a say when a client is in denial, and not near a commitment, how do we motivate her to change?

Hi Dr Gellert, hopefully you still browse these video comments from time to time. Can I ask what has happened to the videos that appear to be missing from the chapter chronology I.e. 3, 10 and one or two of the high teens. I’m going through these again after a couple of years and notice they haven’t been replaced - it looks like at the end of the last video that number 10 was created but isn’t in the playlist. Thank you for sharing your excellent knowledge

As a unit staff with a Clubhouse program, this series on motivational interviewing has helped me to sharpen skill use here and help members identify meaningful steps in their recovery.

Good video, but as a therapist with years of experience including several trainings on MI/MET, it still didn't contain what I was looking for, which is how to more specifically use the cards in conversation. I mean we have them sort the cards, but other than OARS, what specific questions can we ask them in relation to the cards? I have never gotten a straight answer to this, and I have worked with some of the top people in the addiction field who have trained me. Some of them have been directly involved with Miller and Rollnick themselves. One specific question I was given from someone who worked with Miller was to ask the clients "how does/has your drinking/smoking/x/y/z fit in with this value?".. However, beyond that, I have never heard any other specific questions to ask. I also get that is because we are asking/reflecting based on what the patient is presenting, but I think these cards could be much more effectively used if we did have some pre-scripted questions that we could pick from.

Core values are a person True North or North Star. So everything a person says and does should be filtered through core values. Questions for brining core values into here and now conversations. 1. Reflect on the past two weeks, which of your stated core values was most present? Which value was least preset? 2. When you look at the two valuable resources such as time and money, how have your core values influenced how you use those resources? 3. What was the last major decision that you made where you were very focused on your core values. 4. If a movie team was filming you day and day out, where would they capture your core values in action? Apart from this - I invite people to start and stop their day reflecting/journaling on their core values. Starting the day - How will bring forth my core values given the day I think I'm going to have? At the end of the How present were my core values? I also invite people to set an alarm to go off three times a day as a prompt to be reminded of their core values.

We do the card sort in my office. I never thought about them taking them home. I don't think I would have a set of cards after the first time.
