apartments were dirt cheap when I was a kid. even to then's income. the dollar of 1970 was about 7-8 dollars todays money. but an apartment back then was maybe 80-120 for a studio which is like less than 1000 in todays money. and I mean a studio with a kitchenette and bathroom/shower. not a room you share a bathroom down the hall. that same studio apartment is 3200 or more . no one can live anymore in this former "Paradise" which it never really was. it was dirty back then but not as violent. it had its problems in the 70s. Z-Channel, Zodiac, Cults left and right, Robberies but not smash and grabs and robberies where people get shot anyways even if they give up their belongings. people were more sociable back then too.
The amount of Old World Buildings in AC is mind blowing...the crap they build today is worthless compared to these works of art!
Keep voting democrat.
What a time to celebrate! The war was almost over. The Great Depression was history. The post-war baby boom and prosperity were just around the corner. Happy days were indeed here again.
Atlantic City officially fell into decline after WW2 due to an overall change in tourism. Affordable air travel to other destinations is only one reason why the city lost its allure. White wealth and privilege doesn't last forever and now in 2024, the city has about half of the population it used to have with a 3x to 4x the federal poverty rate and a majority third world population. Casinos are considered to be a so called "shadow government" with the politicians in the pockets of the casinos and plenty vacant lots due to land speculators.
Who submitted this New York footage? Right from the get go, not Chicago.
The shark warning sign at Baker Beach must have been put up after the fatal great white shark attack there in 1959. An 18yr old college student was attacked and died from his injuries. RIP
1945!!! A SEGUNDA GUERRA CHEGAVA AO FIM EM MAIO NA EUROPA E QUATRO MESES DEPOIS NO PACÍFICO!!! FOI A JORNADA MAIS BRUTAL DE TODA A HISTÓRIA DA HUMANIDADE ATÉ A ATUALIDADE!
I like chainsaws. Just subscribed!
Amazing the lack of safety gear compared to today. How did these guy last a year, let alone a career?
Skyline now versus then is testament to the morally bankrupt criminals running that town. And state.
The freaks and commies really fucked S.F. up the ass!
The lobby area of the Marlborough Blenheim adorned with sofa was the highlight of a trip to Atlantic City after EXPO 67.
My family watched the lunar landing on The Dennis Hotel's lobby.
I bet AC looks and feels like this today as well!
Not Marines....US Army 4th Infantry Division
People had class back then.
I hope that couple at 1:13 had a long happy life.
Some is Chicago and some is NYC. Got to make sure you got the right footage.
Dude that’s so cool
This is nyc. Notice Houston street 0:44
Amazing how classy people dressed
I dont know if i would call it classy. More like formal. Too formal fir spending long periods of time outside near sand. Plus its easter.

Hoa QUEEN1965s 🤑R
Great old footage . I enjoyed watching this .😊
I'm thinking that most of this video was filmed between Boardwalk Hall and Clarige. Lots of views of the Bally's Dennis Tower.
NYC footage, Not Chicago until later into the video.
This is NOT Astoria OR.
Before the damn hippies came along and started the slow, death-spiral of what Sad Francisco has become.
We used to be such an amazing country... we are now a decrepit husk of what we were, a pathetic shadow of what we could have been...
We were never that great. Your priviledge forced you into a state of naivety. As you got older you realized, "Wow... so things arent as perfect as i was led to believe."
Two red planets-🎉
HOA QUEEN 1965s❤❤
Hima😊
Not going to lie, it's kind of sad seeing the size of some of those trees they're hauling. Can't help but think how big they would be now if they were still growing. Interesting footage none the less.
I. wonder if these older trucks had water tanks Located behind the cab of the truck used too cool down the brakes going downhill in steep grades and. mountains too avoid the brakes over heating when they are applied and if they had. 3 stage Jake. brakes ( engine brakes ) switch on the dashboard of the truck / have a good day. very good. This film is NOT of Chicago. Get your provenance of this film corrected.
The theater in the right of rhe thumbnail is still kicking im pretty sure.
Noticed a couple of things about this. It seems to be shot on two different days. If you notice at both 1:44 and 6:49, the marquee for the Warner Theater has two different movies. The first one, "The Impatient Years" was released Sept 1944. Also showing is evidence of damage from the hurricane of the same month. Later on, the marquee showed "Bring on the Girls" which was from March 1945, which would confirm it was from Easter of 1945, along with the Steel Pier marquee.
very deceptive how you interweve footage of nyc and say its chicago. i could tell by the one way signs.
And the street lights! Chicago has a very distinctive street light design throughout the city and the images at the beginning gave it away.
Ah, yes. This was before Lake Arrowhead had the mountain and the trees installed in 1972.
You were at the John Hancock building right across the street from the Continental Plaza hotel now the Westin hotel. My mom worked there at that time. It brings back a lot of memories. Thanks for the upload.
AC always gets a bad wrap but it's much safer and cleaner then NYC, Philly, B'more and Chicago
Is that saying much?
Thank you for showing this!! Much appreciated.
Amazing film footage. Only time I've ever seen a 10-10 being run without a stinger handle on the other end. My uncle's always two manned monsters.
Great footage, thanks for sharing
