I am new to this but I think the word you are looking for is not experimentation. I would call it R&D (Research and Development)
Oh my gosh you wasting so much water letting the tap just run like that as you soap your arm full stop please be mindful of water conservation we should also be responsible
How do I thicken 100% coconut liquid soap?
Thank you so much for this sincere advice. Really need to hearing this. I’m trying to launch but I think it is to less or too much ??? Etc and it’s overwhelming. this video it’s an answer to my prayers .
Best of luck!!
Nice video. But do we need to add the preservative? Could you please explain it 😊
Anytime water is added to a product then a preservative should be added as well.
Great video, thanks for sharing, when would you add vitamin E to the oils if you wanted to use it? Thanks God Bless You.
I would not add vitamin E so I wouldn't be able to advise when to.
@@SpoilYourselfNatural awesome, thanks God Bless You.
I totally agree the lufah!😁. I'm a soap maker, and my soaps lather great with a lufah!❤
You asked a lot of questions I can’t remember them all 😂 I only do weekend trips so I just leave my site open. I hope I can leave for a week someday! 🤞 even then I’ll probably just put a banner on my site that says orders will ship XX date . I don’t move stuff around either unless it’s not working. I missed where you said you went - was it Disney?? I’m weird and I have no desire to go there 😂 but Mexico yes please. I answer messages at all hours but only when I feel like it lol if I’m not in the mood it’ll wait until the next day. Im all over the place with no schedule 🫣
🤪 I asked so many questions, I forgot them myself! I love a nice weekend trip away, really anything to step away for a little bit it nice. Yes, Disney. I'm a beach girl through and through so I would enjoy Mexico with you just the same. I like how you said it depends on if you answer people after hours or not depending on your mood. I'm sure that makes a difference and helps with the way you reply. Schedules are not for everyone, remember that! If your happy with how it is, then it's the right way for you.
It hold so clean, bright and open! Congrats on giving yourself a space to do your passion! Excited to see your market vlogs
Thanks Sarah!!
I'm loving it, it looks great!
Thank you! Still so much to do.
congratulations! Looks amazing. get some rest, share more about your Disney vacation, would love to hear more about it!:)
Thank you! Disney was a blast. We visited Hollywood Studios, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom, Typoon Lagoon, and Disney Springs. Have you been before?
@@SpoilYourselfNatural I have not been there, hoping to go one day. That sounds fun.
@@marthagichia it was definitely a good time but super expensive. Next vacation will be by the water 😊 and way cheaper! Do you live on the east coast?
@@SpoilYourselfNatural I agree. The prices are expensive. No. l live in Michigan.
The studio looks great! I love the giant calendar I bet it’s really helpful to have the whole year laid out like that ❤
Thank you! Yes, it definitely helps me plan my year out.
Loved this honest and insightful video! Your tips on starting a soap business and sharing what worked and what you’d do differently are incredibly valuable. Thanks for helping fellow entrepreneurs! 🌟 #SoapBusiness #EntrepreneurTips #Inspiration
Happy it gave you some ideas. Best of luck on your endeavor!
Why do we need a preservative in it
Anything that has water in the recipe or any water that may be introduced into the product should have a preservative. Hope that helps!
I started with Etsy too but now primarily do farmers markets. It's so nice to meet people and get to know what they are actually looking for - it's helped immensely! Labels, labels, labels. They are always changing. Oh m gee. So many little details and design changes.
Markets are really so fun once you get used to them. And your 1000% right about lables. Do you still do Etsy? If so what are tour thoughts about the platform now?
@@SpoilYourselfNatural I still have an Etsy just for exposure and for new people to see my reviews but I list on the banner to please go directly to my website. I hate the fees there and the corruption that's taken place with the new advertisement model. I'm primarily using Shopify which I'm not sure that I would totally recommend due to some slow issues but it's safety and appearance is better than some cheaper sites I've tried. My current annoyance is trying to navigate shipping to be less expensive because even though customers are paying a portion, I'm paying a portion too! Why?! I don't know.
Hi Danielle, I appreciate your honesty so much. I have the same struggles and knowing I am not alone is very comforting.
I'm so happy to hear! It always helps me to know others feel the same at times.
I love Soapmaker 3 and wouldn't be without it. If someday they expanded it to be a full service bookkeeping software with website integration I'd be their spokesperson for life 😂. I'm an accountant by day, and I keep track of all sales and finished inventory on my website, all my formulas, raw materials, and cost of sales on SM 3, and then do my full bookkeeping on sage 50. It's annoying but going into year 3, I've worked out the kinks without too much duplication.
That definitely would be amazing! You would be so upset with how unorganized I am with bookkeeping 😆. Let's just say there's a basket and nothing is inputted in a timely manner. Teach me your ways!
@@SpoilYourselfNatural my only advice is either do your bookkeeping little and often, OR just pay someone local to do it for you. It's worth paying someone if you hate the task then you can focus on what you do love. Also, when organizing your expenses, sort by category, not by month, bookkeepers and accountants HATE that lol.
@@triplegoddesssoapery I hire someone for taxes but do my monthy by myself. I do my monthly and my spec so I guess I'm not completely failing. Once I'm able to I'm totally going to pay someone to take them over!!
@@SpoilYourselfNatural Sounds like you're doing ok! 💜
Great advice! I feel I have done everything backwards. I’m still learning a lot after 20 years. I’m looking for a good starter shampoo bar, any good shampoo bar recipes to purchase you like?
Right?! Always learning and figuring out how to move forward. I created my own recipe for shampoo bars. I know there's one on Etsy alot of people bought and love. I don't know the name off hand but I think it's Saponification Nation if you look it up.
There's also a few recipes on Humble Bee & Me
@@SpoilYourselfNatural maybe DIY shampoo bar on Etsy?
@@BeechHillSoap yes DIY is what a bunch of makers recommended. I just heard Sarah from Sarah girl soaps said she bought a recipe and loves it in your latest video. I think she even links the listing.
@@SpoilYourselfNatural yes I saw that, and I watch Jerika Zimmerman, she mentioned she used this on too.
I have soap maker 3 and I love it! I haven’t had the time or website do about intergrading websites. Had a lot of family troubles. I need to get back to doing more.
Thanks for the reply. That makes me feel assured it's going to be helpful. I'm sorry to hear. I wish you and the family the best!
Thank you
Great video!
Hi Danielle, I'm a small business that started 9 months ago and I've been trying to figure out when is the right time to start doing farmers markets for businesses that aren't earning too much yet -- because they can be quite expensive to get started as I've seen in their application forms (vendor fees for the whole season, insurance, renting or buying a tent, displays and signage). It was helpful to hear your thoughts on the goal of earning 10x your vendor fee.Would you say it's a worthwhile risk for a business who is just barely getting by from a financial perspective, to take the plunge into spending on all the costs associated with the market?
I can't say what's right for you but for me it was worth it. I didn't do markets for years. I just did Etsy until I found my rhythm and was comfortable with my products and company. When I did decide to move forward with markets it was a worth while investment for my company but it was more than I expected to pay. I choose to buy most items in one season and not little by little. It was about 3000 when I was done. I'm sure it could have been much cheaper but I wanted very specific things for my "look". Hope that helped on some level.
I understand totally. Marketing is not my thing. I feel like I have hit a wall. As far as numbers estimate to sell, it's a crap shoot lol. I want this full time in 4 years but have a long way to go! Thank you for this video, it is good to know we are not alone in our feelings.
It makes such a difference knowing someone else might be feeling the same. Running a small business definitely has it's lonely moments.
I am by no means an expert, but listening to you it sounds like are too "exclusive" with your line. I feel you can do both natural and expand with other products. There is no reason you can't have different lines....your "natural" and then some fun fragrances and micas or essential oils and natural colorants. This way you can expand your product line and people are happy with handmade products, knowing what is in the items they are buying etc. Hope this helps
Thank you Nancy, I appreciate that!
I’m prepping for a Mother’s Day market and I’m burning myself out with it 😫 I’m making tons of new product which I need to do, but I think just doing it all so much and at once is too much for me. This is more of a hobby for me but whew.
Sounds like your a busy bee. I love that for you. I hope your market is a hit! Don't forget your own self-care 😘
You have no idea how much I needed to hear what you had to say in this video. It helped me more than you can imagine. I have wondered so many times if I am the only one who has these very thoughts and feelings regarding what I'm trying to do. Hearing your honesty and transparency absolutely brought me a major sense of peace! Thank you, thank you for just keeping it real!
Thank you so much for your comment. It definitely helps knowing other makers are going through similar things.
This video was for me and how I felt the past year. I decided not to do wholesale this year and focusing on retail only this year. I'm also limiting my vendor markets to mostly farmers markets and popups that i've done already. I dropped 8 scents from my candle line. I'm going back to my minimalist lifestyle so other than my top sellers everything else is made to order. I'm keeping my cost low as possible this economy is going to get worse than better!
I feel the same! I have lots going on but still feel it! I think it’s just the time of the year we’re right in the middle of the seasons changing and I think that’s part of it… I think you and your Brand is awesome! Your doing so good at what you do..
I'm so happy to hear others are doing the same. I think if we go back to basics it may just get us through it! It's also a good reminder that we don't NEED to offer all those extras most small businesses now offer. I appreciate your feedback. Something I may need to consider as well.
@@corrylloyd6593 thank you!
How much are your soaps? I mean each single soap
My soaps are 4.5oz and currently they are $9.50 each
This is what I do to with canva and maestro. I need to get adobe. I do not use that step. Thank you for sharing!
It's free to download, definitely try it. It made a world of difference for me!
Thank you for the tips, I use Online Labels and I'm definitely going to download the Adobe reader. I've been wondering how to get into the settings to up the quality of the label printing. Thank you for the help! :)
Anytime! I swear it's the most obvious things that we totally gloss over sometimes. Years of trying complex things for ideal printing and all I needed was Adobe, and it was in bold letters on Maestro to download 😂. Glad I could point it out. Fingers crossed it helps your printing quality.
@@SpoilYourselfNatural Yes, I'm always missing something it seems! :) Thanks again!
@@ginnymartin116 I always do!! No matter how hard I try..
Love the swirls!
Thank you 😊
I like watching how you make your soaps and I like narrative. I watch Ellen Ruth Soap and Jerika from Quenchbear and have been following them for years.
I love them both as well. Two of my favs for sure!
Just found your channel today, Danielle. Love the soaps I’m seeing.
So happy your here!
Such a lovely soap stamp on here! Would love to hear you narrate-love that swirl!
Thank you! Will do!
That soap looks beautiful!!!
Thank you!
It's beautiful just the way it is. The eo blend sounds gorgeous too.
Thank you so much! The essential oil blend is nice, very fresh and earthy.
Beautiful Label! ❤❤❤ I wish here in Canada we could advertise the benefits of our products on our labels 😞
Thank you for the kindness. I'm not familiar with labeling in Canada. I do know it's more strict than the US. That must stink.
It is very strict! We can't say anything like.. it is moisturizing, nourishing for the skin, it is good for ecema or any other skin issue.. it does stink lol
How much witch hazel do you use? Thanks!❤
Whatever is needed as my binder. Depends your environment.
@@SpoilYourselfNatural I’m trying to switch out my Slsa in my recipes. I usually use witch hazel and it works fine.. I tried your recipe and it did not stay together. Performance was beautiful! But it was just a powdered mess…
@@corrylloyd6593 that stinks. My only real advice is maybe try to make them more wet that you normally would with slsa. I've never personally used slsa only sci. I wish I had a solid answer on the amount but bathbombs are soo finicky. I can make a recipe one day and it's awesome and do the exact same thing the next and it's a mess. If you try it again let me know what you changed and how it came out. I'm happy you at least enjoyed the foam and feel (maybe bath dust for now 😉)
Thanks! I will try it again.. it is the top of my to-do list for tomorrow 🙂
@SpoilYourselfNatural I think I figured out the problem... I don't think I filled my mold enough. So, I tweaked the recipe a bit. I'll share with you the recipe and results tomorrow by email if that's ok? If so do you have an email addy? Thanks so much for your help! I truly appreciate it! ❤🙂
Labeling is the bane of my existence. If I could outsource anything, it would be that. Nothing EVER goes right. Just last night I spent about an hour getting some labels together only for my printer to print out ONE page and then be out of ink. I personally have always had trouble too with online labels getting to print correctly. Since I switched to Avery they print out fine, you know, if one of any 100s of other things doesn't go wrong.
We all have that one thing don't we. I don't hate labeling near as much as admin work. What a bummer about your labels, hopefully your ink is on it's way to you now :)
It's funny you talk about change, in big box stores, I don't even notice it. I just gloss over it and round it up in my head lol. I guess that's why I just round up the price of my own products.
I hear that, it's so easy to gloss over so many things the big box stores do.
We added a 12x20 room on the back of our garage. I love it! It is my soaping studio. I have a double stainless steel sink area with counter space, upper and lower cupboards, packing station, office station with desk top computer and 2 monitors, long counter with cupboards, stainless steel table, space for my bakers drying rack, and 3 IKEA Ivar shelf units. It’s awesome!
That sounds glorious! Maybe in my dreamhouse I'll be able to do some like that. Enjoy it!
They look good! Could you maybe pour smaller amounts into each section so the first doesn't bow out? Then continue to fill each evenly? I've seen it done with crisp lines, but probably takes some practice. Thank you for sharing your video!
Thays a great way to try. Thanks for sharing your feedback!
I think they came out really nice and straight considering the bowing! Running a hanger swirl through the design, back and forth long-ways would be really pretty!
Great idea!!
Hello Danielle, I have a question about the size of the label that goes on the box? Am working on labels trying different options. Thank you.
The scanner label is 1.75 x.5 and my soap label is 7x2. If it was another product, please let me know.
@@SpoilYourselfNatural Thank you soo much
Hey! I went to click on the link for the scanner and it's the same link for the charging portal! Just wanted to let you know! I've done that also in my videos lol! Thanks!
Thanks for letting me know!
Oh my gosh! This is so helpful! Right now I am doing the same thing using Shopify for online and square for in my farm store & events but trying to figure out how to utilize Shopify for both and the bar codes are genius! Thank you!!!! ~jc
Glad it was helpful!
I would love to see a video on inventora, I am just getting started trying to turn my bath and body making hobby into a business. I currently have inventora and have played with it a little but I have so many ingredients I am feeling a little overwhelmed. Thanks for your content! ❤
It's a great program and totally feels overwhelming when setting up. So many raw ingredients from bottles and jars to colors and scents. I made a day of it and tweaked from there. I do need to update alot so I'll try and film as I go. Good luck!
Very Pretty Soap and a nice scent blend. I liked how you said lemon essential oil doesn't stick very well. Only certain citrus essential oils stick very well in soap as I am learning. Lemongrass is a great alternative to lemon in your scent blends as you stated. I have learned that for citrus soaps I like to use Orange 5 Fold, May Chang, Lemongrass, and Persian Lime sticks well for me in my soaps.
I've never tried Persian Lime before (just lime). I'll have to give it a try, thanks! It's definitely one of my top sellers. The lemon last about 4 months but I want a blend that will last as long as possible.
I love it all and I love watching Jerika & Ellen Ruth soap
I like watching everything too. Both are amazing!
Such a beautiful soap and I love your channel. I have learn so much.
Thank you so much. Happy your enjoying the channel and getting something out of it!
