Hello, I’m Benni Dumville, a producer and mixer from London. This is my channel, DRUMVILLE (see what I did there). The name comes from a sample library I created during those wild lockdowns we had in the early 2020s. It was really good, loads of one shots from vintage drum machines, processed in unique ways to add power, strength and glory to your productions.
You can check that out here.

I’m not really into the whole KZread thing to be honest. I think the pro audio KZread scene is dominated by idiots and phonies who don’t know what they are talking about. They claim to experts and professionals in their field, but the reality is that they spend all of their time making “content” and not actually working in said fields. Lots of bad advice and misinformation is being dished out by these content clowns. I will not be doing any of that, or falling into the weekly videos trap.

The intro was a struggle... I will be back though. I do love the irony though.
😂 absolutely fair enough, the "Pro Audio KZreadr fever dream" is not for everyone... I stand by it though!
I listened to this video without watching it, and the whole intro was super disorienting in the best way.
😂
You are fantastic! This is the ONLY bus plus vid that really shows HOW things work
thank you John, kind words!
As a logic user , is there an increased cpu load when using the vst wrapped 3rd party plugins within 360 link? Installing a whole plugin library , or even half of one is going to be a major commitment !!
There were several issues during alpha and beta testing, and a bunch of things I think they can still improve on... BUT high CPU usage was never something I noticed when using VST3 wrapped into Logic
Amigo yo me compré uno pero solo me funciona un lado, quizás sea existe alguna configuración ? Estéreo clásico y me funciona uno los VU
Yes there is some configuration required in the settings of Bus+. You can find all information in the manual, page 23: www.solidstatelogic.com/assets/uploads/downloads/The_Bus_User_Guide_1.1.pdf
intente hacer eso pero no puedo dar con esa configuración @@DRUMVILLE
Thank you. This filled in a lot of gaps I had after watching the SSL vid.
no worries!
amazing detail. Thank you!
you are very welcome Andre!
Thank you for revive.
🙏thank you friend
why do i feel like you have someone doing voice over for your videos?
what do you mean? why would i bother doing that? 😂 people r weird
Well done .... worked for me and i have listened to at least four other demonstrators before you ..... I definitely benefited from your demo and liked your humour.
Sounds like an analog heat with easier controls in a 500 series format. I say that as a good thing thanks for the demo 🎉
Analog Heat is great too! Punishr + has been announced now too if you haven't seen it 👀
So a couple of quick questions. The track arming appears not to work correctly. If I track arm channel 1 no problem, same is true for 9, 17, 25 etc. if I track arm 2 to 8 only track 1 arms 10 to 16, track 9 arms etc? Binned prefs reset things no change! Also if I don’t track arm but “accidentally” hit the transport record button, the channel that is selected (not armed) goes into record, if I have a channel that is record armed and I hit record but another channel is selected, everything works as expected, the rec armed track is the only one that records. Any ideas? The next is a question re plugin control, so for the sake of argument I have a pro Q3 on say channel 1, I hit plugin mode enable the q3, 4 parameters come up in the display above the Vpots, the same parameter is above the master channel fader, How do I get any of the parameters above boot 2,3,4 to appear on the master fader vpot, that I could then use flip mode for? Using a vpot to scroll frequency is just very slow on the proQ3 but flipping to fader is much better. 3rdly focus mode controlling a plugin parameter is very clunky and unsmooth, as it is a gnurled rotary pot, that appears to be velocity sensitive, if you scroll slowly on it, the plugin parameter does not move, scroll faster and it moves but of course much too quickly for resolution control, automation writing etc. If anybody can answer any of these please do, SSL have been hopeless, emailed tech support twice and no reply!
This is of course for Logic Pro. No problems track arming protools
There's a lot you don't mention which makes this more difficult to understand - are you referring to using just a UF1 on its own, any other SSL peripherals? What DAW etc? I've just assumed some stuff, so will answer what my best guess is. UF1 doesn't have a Record Arm button, so it's difficult to answer your question as I'm not sure exactly what you are doing here. Maybe you have set up a soft key to the DAW command for "Rec/Ready"? I've just set this up, and it works fine for me, no issues. As I scroll through tracks the Rec Arm soft key will record arm the selected track. Alternatively you could set the soft key to instead be a Key Command, and set it to your DAWs keyboard shortcut for record arming the selected track. Regarding plug-in control, if I'm understanding correctly, then unfortunately what you are describing is a limitation of the MCU DAW control protocol, there's not really a way to move individual plug-in parameters onto the single fader. Parameters are in banks of 8 and the fader, and you scroll through them 1 bank at a time, not individually. Of course you could do this on a UF8 where you have the full 8 faders available. Not ideal, but it just is what it is with the old protocol. SSL are working hard and adding more and more functionality to 360, which will hopefully end up allow us more modern control over our DAW. Lastly with the focus mode pot. Focus mode is essentially just your mouse's scroll wheel. If you move it a single click it may appear as if it's doing nothing on some plug-ins, but it actually is. Do a couple more clicks and you will eventually see the plugin respond. It comes down to the individual plugin and the resolution settings the developer has implemented for mouse scroll. Fab Filter Pro Q 3 has very fine resolution to allow for ultra precise dialling in of EQ and curves - up to 3 decimal places 12.345hZ for example. That's what you are experiencing. Try some other plugins - the SSL stuff is nice and smooth as they design it with this in mind, but loads of other plug-ins work really well with Focus mode too. Some mice allow for user customisation in adjusting the resolution of your scroll, maybe SSL could add this as a feature for Focus mode - I will suggest.
@@DRUMVILLE Hi it’s Logic Pro 10.5.1, but the problem re track arming also happens on a machine running Monterey logic 10.7.1. The track arming is a standard button can’t remember whether it’s page 4 or 5. When you load up 360 and select Logic Pro as daw 1, these are the default commands. So it’s not just my system. So just the SSL UF1. Interestingly I have an icon platform m plus, which has no problems with the track arming, I can also run at the same time as the SSL, again no problems . The most annoying issue apart from the select to record, is if you haven’t selected to record, but hit record, the selected track goes into record even if not rec enabled! Thanks for the info re plugin parameters, does seem a bit mad that you can move the fader and pan for all tracks in banks of 8, but not each plugin parameter across the Vpots. Onto the master fader/vpot. I think they still have a lot of work to do on 360. Not sure why they don’t do what Eucon did and basically supersede a 25 year protocol!
@@themattprofessor I’m in Logic 10.8.1 on macOS Sonoma and not having those record arm issues, so I’m not sure what else to suggest to help fix it I’m afraid. I would definitely try my suggestion of switching the soft key to instead be a key command of Control+R (record arm for Logic) and see if that makes any difference though. Some of the built in MCU DAW implementations have previously been messed up by Apple who decided to update stuff that didn’t need updated and in the process screw up everyone’s workflow! Example - a while back they changed the Shift function of Logic’s MCU profile on a whim and broke loads of features… 🙄 Key command would supersede any of that, worth a try. Yep, tracks will automatically drop into record, even if not record armed. That’s just what Logic does, nothing to do with the SSL stuff. I agree they have some distance to go still - especially with Logic - but some of the stuff they are able to do now with VST3, you can see 360 is on track to become their own protocol combined with a bunch of other features.
Hello, you are welcome! I’m afraid I don’t speak very good French 🇫🇷 and when I translate your question it doesn’t make sense to me 🙃
@@DRUMVILLE hello I have a problem when I change tracks, it automatically opens the 1st vst in my effects chain do you know if this is a problem?
@@DRUMVILLE I also said a big thank you to you for this really useful video.
@@Borr94 I understood the big thank you - you are welcome! I'm not sure what DAW you are using? If it's Logic, do you have the Plug-in Link control turned on? In the top right corner of the Plug-in GUI, it looks like a purple chain? If that's turned on, it will automatically open the plugin in the selected insert slot every time you switch tracks.
@@DRUMVILLE thank you very much, in fact I deactivated it and it works thank you for everything, you are a boss
Ok the intro was phenomenal!
Thank you! My magnum opus
Great Video! Can you please Tell me what Monitor and Stand do you use? I Like the angle of your Monitor Thanks!
As in computer monitor? Samsung 32 inch curve. It’s the 1080 version in this video, I have since upgraded have 2 of the 32 inch 4K curves now. The stand is an Amazon basics monitor arm for the bottom one, and the top one I’m not a sure, sorry! If you meant monitor speakers, they are Eve Audio SC307 on isoacoustics stands.
Sound like the ost of Batman !
Not sure what this means, but thank you 🦇
Excellent video!
Thanks Trent!
lol....anyone that starts off with their back to me doesn't get my attention. Have a healthy 2024.
😂 wow you sound fun. good job you don’t get to the bit where i’m naked then
Does ssl 2+ show up in 360 like ssl 12
Hello. No it does not, the SSL 2 interfaces don’t have the 360 functionality - they are cheaper, more straight forward devices.
@@DRUMVILLE ok, thanks
1.6 video?
Haven’t had time unfortunately! I’m currently working on a documentary series on the history of the SL4000 series consoles, check out the trailer on this channel 🙂
This is brilliant, thank you! much appreciated!
No thank YOU!
I subbed after the disclaimer. Came off as very genuine 👍
I just bought the fusion.. should I buy this as well?
sure if you want 😂
Your studio looks like a Space Ship Cockpit... and I've wanted to be an astronaut since I was a kid ... I think this is the closest I'll get... my own little spaceship room! Awesome video, man! 😎🎸🎹🤘👨🚀🚀
had it for like 3 months send it back its ok i got the dangerous hardware compressor instead and neve orbit
Summings not for me, but enjoy!

Soooo good 👌🏼
omg ur such a simp
Good one simplifying the unit. Ps. It was very hard to hear your voice. The bg music is too loud and continuous.

4k crunch and grit. 😍
Benni, are you going to make a video on the 360 1.6 upgrade? Hope so.............
Nope, I’m afraid not! There’s a reason for that. I decided it would be better to spent my time working on something for the next update which is coming very soon, in a month that rhymes with Yovember… 🤫
@@DRUMVILLE aok. Will look forward to it. Thanks
Here’s how to reorder the random Logic Pro plugin/instrument parameter mapping to your liking for each instrument/plugin, making it much more convenient to control from UF1 & UF8 : kzread.info/dash/bejne/k6WY2dKJiLrbkc4.htmlsi=rzAELy5_wqBBJ5GN
Hi Martin, I’m guessing you are the same Martin who emailed me with this this morning 😂 Yes it is true you can do this. Just to clear some stuff up though, it’s not strictly related to Logic Pro - this is a Mackie Control protocol issue and just how the protocol has always worked. You can also do this for other DAWs and any other controller that also uses MCU protocol - of which there are plenty from the last 25 years or so! 👀 I remember doing this on my old Mackie and Behringer controllers. It is certainly useful however these days I find this approach way too time consuming as I have far too many plugins I would want to control 😂 Rest assured, SSL are working on some new ways to control third party plugins 👀
Hi Benni, thanks for your clarification (and thanks for the email reply, too). I wasn’t aware of this -well…cumbersome workaround until recently, but glad to hear SSL is working on a more intuitive/straightforward way of controlling/mapping parameters in Logic. All the best - Martin
very detailed overview. also cool how you filter the "beat" and "video content" high pass while you speak, very nice idea.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed! I can’t actually remember how I did that, but it came out as pretty extreme effect, I’m not sure I’d do it again!

You guys are fab, but I don't feel I learned a single thing about this amplifier. :(
Cheers! You heard a selection of tones The Jack can offer - when you have a Lags to play - but yeah this was by no means meant to be an in-depth deep dive on the amp or it's features. I'm sure there are plenty of videos out there that do that if you'd like to learn more about it :)
Useless for me. My music is EDM
😂 how does that make it useless 😂 you still mix in EDM
@@DRUMVILLE You're right. It has a mix knob...
@@dannydaniel8975 Ah sorry mate didn’t realise exactly what you were referring to. I thought you meant the Fusion as a whole, not specifically the LMC mode. My bad. You could probably still use something like LMC in EDM, it is just a compressor after all, but yeah your initial comment makes more sense to me now 🙂
ok, now i know that i have to buy ssl12

fifth time! I am honoured, thank you very much 💜
I'm sure after 2 years you know already, that in LMC mode the "x-over" knob is the wet-dry control ;)
Can you link up more than just on UF8? e.g connect UF1 to 4 UF8 to have 32channels?
Yep! There is a limit, which I’m not sure of off the top of my head, but I think you could do 4x UF8, 1x UF1 and 1x UF8
@commitdubs I checked with my dudes at SSL and my above comment is correct
what is that cool box that your using to insert plugins?
The Stream Deck? It’s a macro triggering device, very cool, can do all sorts - would recommend checking out!
I got 2 avid s1s and a uc1, Im about to switch to this setup
Nice, I hear the Avid controllers with the EUCON protocol are a bit more flexible, but having everything running via 360 is pretty amazing
Man, that intro. Brilliant. Subscribed !
Haha thank you!
Well Benni I for one sincerely hope you'll be releasing more SSL videos - this was outstanding. As a very recent owner of all 3 units I found this really useful and goes over functions I've not seen anybody else cover (mixer layer on the UF8 for instance). Well done sir.
Thank you very much! I will keep making videos on new SSL equipment so long as they keep sending me products to test, and I think I can contribute something to the launch of that product / find it it interesting!
SSL eq masterclass be nice.. And totally get what you mean about clickbait (anything with a tagline 'Stop dong THIS..' avoid like the plague). All the best and thanks again (Eric)
@@sonicindustries227 yep, as you can tell, I am not a fan of the current state of “pro audio youtube” 😂. Is there a way of changing the layer on UF8 to the 360 layer for example and have the UF1 follow that?
Im not sure I fully understand, but you can indeed put UF8 into the 360 mode, I go over it in the video.
@@DRUMVILLE want to press the “Layer” key 2 on the UF8 to switch over to the 360 layer but I want the UF1 to follow and switch over to the 360 layer also. at the moment I have to switch both units independently.

You remind me of Kerrangs KRUSHER 🔥😂🔥
Thanks I guess!
Attention if you use the UF1 in combination with the UF8 (Cubase), you cannot select the lower last 7 tracks on the UF1. This is because the UF8 always selects 8 adjacent tracks and the UF1 can only select the top (left) track of the UF8 at a time. UF8 and UF1 are synchronised. This means that the bottom last 7 tracks are always not selectable for the UF1. This is real rubbish.
