    Leaving the wipers up is convenient but the loss of it isn’t the end of the world. You can have your wipers up or remote start but not both. The wiper spring isn’t designed for long term extension. They will stretch over time. There is a wiper park procedure in the manual that you’re not using and should be used if you’re leaving your wipers up. What you’re doing isn’t recommended. Read your manual. I’m sure the Maverick Hybrid handles like other FWD cars in the snow. Tires for both FWD and AWD make the difference. More so on the FWD as far as getting started and maintaining forward movement.

  • @IllInformedHuman
    @IllInformedHuman22 күн бұрын

    I assume you are talking about what the manual refers to as the "service position". They say to run the wipers while in accessory mode until they are in the middle of the windshield unless obstructed with snow and ice. For "wiper park" it states that the mode will be active whenever you switch on the side mirror heat. The only precautions for wipers are to leave them off when going through a car wash and to not run them on a dry windshield. It does not state that they cannot be left in the service position. It also does not bring up that you can leave them in service position, thus the debate. I will assume you don't actually own a maverick since you have clearly not READ YOUR MANUAL!

    For some additional insight here... Everywhere power is generated, or transformed, you need to establish a ground reference. For example, you may have single phase 240Vac coming into your house from the power company. Where the voltage and current are transformed (the transformer on the utility pole for instance), a ground/neutral bond is established to create a reference that is common to both sides. Same thing in commercial control applications where you may take 3 phase 480V and grab one leg of it to a 480:120Vac xfmer. The low side of that transformer will have two wires that read 120Vac between the two. One of them will be bonded directly to ground on that secondary side in order to maintain a common reference to the same ground on the high (480v) side. The ground bonded leg will now be the secondary's ground (green wire) and neutral (white wire). After that point, the two will never join each other again, and if another xformer was added down stream to say, drop 120Vac down to 24Vac, the process would continue. The ground wire to ground, hot and neutral to high side of transformer, then on the low side, two wires will exit, with one wire being bonded to ground to maintain the common earth reference that began all the way back at the turbine that spun up to create the power in the first place. Long ramblings just to explain that if you measure without ground off the secondary side of an inverter that is internally bonded to the negative side of the battery supplying the power, you're not going to get completely accurate results. Thank you for catching this.

I have never even heard of leaving wipers up like you show here. Your method is guaranteed to burn out the wiper motor if you have an inch of ice on the arms with the blades up.

    The important thing to know is electronic equipment can be damaged or destroyed or even explode if connected to that SHAPE of power wave. There is a story of an audio equipment repair technician friend of mine called to service an expensive studio mix board that was being modified by the studio owner. Tech asked studio owner; "Before you power it up, are you sure you know what you are doing?' Owner said "Yes". Tech: "Okay, its your board sir." Owner powers up his mix board then all 96 channels of his $million dollar SSL mix board blow up in sequence, one at a time, smoke rising over each channel one at a time. Next, tech was hired to fix it (after it stopped smoking). He made a lot of $ off that guy.

    How is the concrete ballast weight working out? Is 1,300 the right amount? Seems like most people only get to 800-1000 lbs with concrete. I will be getting an MX soon and thought 800 probably was not enough.

  • @IllInformedHuman
    @IllInformedHuman3 ай бұрын

    It is still holding up! I did put concrete sealer a few months after it was cast. Since the rear can lift over a ton, I would say the right amount would have been just below that 😉. Though... a bigger weight probably would be annoying to drive around with. The size of the one I made feels just right. I usually only have to hook up the weight when I am unloading off a flatbed. I was able to pick up a 1,500lb plow to about half height. I still felt a little light in the rear... so if you could get more weight without it being unwieldy, go for it! if you are planning on moving large round bales, 800lbs would likely be fine. To be safe, fill the tires or add wheel weights as well. Happy tractoring!

    Hey brother... please don't let any of your wiring lay against the metal of your container. Drill holes in all of your studs and pull it through them. Looking good! BTW, the way you wedged your ceiling framing to the upper container wall with the studs underneath makes your walls way stronger than you realize. Good job. I'm going to use 2x6 for my ceiling so I can install insulation and some sort of board material above.

  • @IllInformedHuman
    @IllInformedHuman5 ай бұрын

    Its a little late for rewiring 😘 If you want ceiling insulation, consider putting something on top of the container (an insulated party deck?), the interior is only 7'8". Dropping it as much as I did with the 2x4s was almost a little too much... Leaving it open at least makes it feel bigger in there. If you bought a high cube container, you would have plenty of head room! I wish you well on your build!
