I love the shelter for your boat, do you have any details on how to build this?
Me thinks you don’t know what “diamond in the rough” means.
So funny. When you said the "bird's nest" on the mast. I was thinking "crows nest". And, of course not seeing one, I was what the heck is he talking about! Didn't see the actual bird nest until you moved forward....
As a 15 year old with no sailing experience except sailed in a laser once, I have my own useless opinion. Sailboat manufacturers are desperately looking to attract customers and are looking to increase their profit margin. Therefore yes! It might look cheap! However, modern sailboats are designed more aerodynamic as well as hydrodynamically efficient. I mean wayyyy efficient than those old classic sailboats. As a conclusion, I just wanna say that sailboats are a personal selection. Some sailors prefer different and others don't. Good Video btw!!!
Boy what a bargain Some new anti foul bottom paint, thorough leak inspection tests of all lines, etc and she'll sail again ! Audio tip.. your left right pan for each your mics is a bit weird on headphones . Pan both mics a bit more to center.
Appreciate the tip! How do I pan more to center? Luddite here!!!
Brasso is a pain and never gave me good results. After 23 years in the military, polishing various bits of brass along the way and nothing came close to beating the speed and ease of Flitz. Do yourself a favour and buy a tube of it…..
Will definitely give that a try! Thanks for the tip!
Yeah Flitz for the win.
I think that mystery compartment was the boat yoga studio, especially if that is the only access to the quadrant. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
😂😂😂 who drinks Rum and Tonic ????😅😅😅😅😅
Very, very pretty boat. Now if I could only get my wife on a boat. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
I know the feeling… My wife loves it in theory but not so much in practice… Keep trying!
Having taught sailing in early 2000s, would be able to consider assisting
$16000 later it is floating and happy people are on board for a nice weekend. Real expenses and life get in the way. They do not want us to have anything.
I have the money, the time and motivation but absolutely no sailing experience. I really wish I had someone who would go along with me so I could learn.
You should look for an ASA program in your area…
I just took a basic sailing class at my local reservoir marina. Next month I am taking the intermediate class. You can do the same. In the process you may find someone that will join you.
Blue Water
Looking for a45-to 80ft Tony &Sandy Shaw
Gosh, where do you start. Newer Beta, standing rigging, self tailing winches , great sailboat data numbers. All I can say is sweet. 6K you bleeping kidding me ! You guys found a beauty :)
Your in a class, a very charming place. Sincere, plus fun and entertaining.. And also extremely informative... Thank you....
I had a Yankee 38. All the S&S boats of the era had beautiful tumble-home. Swans) 38-43), Tartan 41 & Catalina 38 mkI was made with Yankees hull molds
My father had the 1st. Morgan, Hobie Cats, and another brand. We had a Morgan 24, then the 27, and then the 38 (our last boat was a Bristol 41.1). I am going with the Morgan.
I have the money I am just getting into boating thinking of doing the loop when I retire next year but I’m in StLouis
A sailboat is the last thing you want for the loop.
My Canadian friend said he put an offer in on a Bristol 33 in Rockland and it was accepted, I'm curious if this is it?
It may have been! I don’t have the details…
Must have sold in hours, if not minutes!!! Hope this wasn’t purchased as a flip, hopefully someone yearning for a bigger boat but simply didn’t have $30k got it. 🤞
That's definitely some deal! I just wish that I wasn't so far away from you up there in Maine -- the six hour ride back and forth fixing her up would kill me, but the price really tempts me. Keep them coming ... I love these episodes!
All the bulkheads are de-tabbing from the hull. I would expect some pretty serious twisting and further tearing if not addressed immediately. What a deal though!
Is this due to be on the hard for soo many years ?
Some lucky person has bought it if the brokerage listing is to be believed.
An offer has come in and has been accepted. Fast.
I’m loving these boat tours! You really have taken up the torch from captain Q!
Glad you're enjoying them! They're a ton of fun to make - especially finding the boats...
Shout out to captain q
"Fortitude" wow you can't get any more yankee than that. Really someone's dream boat. I like the airex core and encapsulated hull. Bomb proof.
This is a GREAT find ! I have seen boats in a lot worse shape for a lot more . I think it will be snapped up soon .
Couldn't agree more - on all counts!
I Agree. The IKEA Office sailboats., Yukky 🤮🤮🤮. Charts are hard to find. Very sad. Will be missed. Old boats are wonderful. Happy Sailing Old Boats ⛵
Your Bristol Girl here! My big concerns are the chain plate, the engine, flaking walls, and the lost of space of putting the head across the galley. Most definitely can be sailed solo. So sad he did not get to finish her before his time. I hope the future Skipper takes good care of her. Happy Sailing ⛵
Definitely a few concerns - and a sad story, indeed. She will find a good home, I am certain of it. Thanks for watching!
Bristol Girl here! What a steal! I wish I could buy it work on it, and go sailing. For now, I have ran aground and in the process of being a caregiver to my aging parents. Once I am free from my obligation, I will be looking for my future Bristol. Happy Sailing ⛵
Hello! Thanks for finding us! What is your wish list Bristol? And, your parents are lucky.
@@boatfools , Hi guys, I am not sure if I should go for a Bristol 41.1 (we had hull #43) or something bigger 45.1. Or start with a 33 or 35 to get back in the groove. I am thinking of taking all the certifications (classes) from ASA. So much has changed in the last 10 years since "my Dad" sold our lovely boat 😩. Thank you for the response.
Looks like a good boat if you like washing machines.😂
Wow! Does this make your wheels start turning. $6k leaves so much room for all the things.
Not a lot of things needed. Paint the bottom, scrub the decks, and go sailing...But, yes, you'd have some dry powder for upgrades or unforeseen issues!
Excellent find!
Thank you!
the intake water was "so clear" and not pink is because there never was any pink!
What does pink mean?
That is a nice boat and a total steal at that price.
Truly! BTW, boat's in, going sailing today. Can't wait!
Remind me to never let these guys on board a boat of mine.
Question I have Parkinson's disease but I have always wanted a sailboat. I have afew problems but can still manage to do things just not that fast, so would you say that I have missed the boat or is it still possible?
Anything is possible!
This is a very nice boat, esp for the money its a steal
It's too bad that these older boats are so narrow towards the back.
Lol. You think that's got a narrow stern? I have no transom. Same taper bow and stern.
She's wider than most for her age. If you look at the SailboatData plans, you can see she's not even the classic teardrop shape...But, yeah, narrower than the modern design, but that's why we love 'em!
I call dibs! lol!
Small group of friends lending a hand and a jet washer on the decks and that would brush up nicely. The one serious job is re doing the underside but if the weather was kind it could be done in a week. That done she could be in the water for the rest to be sorted. Theres smaller and cruder boats circumnavigating the globe.
100% agreed. The bottom is the toughest job. The rest is easy.
ST winches, engine, electronics, sails ALONE are worth THAT much! Too bad I'm in southern Virginia!
Agreed!
I’m ready , I’m in Bangor, I’ve got the money and I know what I’m doing, problem is I’m too old (86) and can’t do it anymore… but still got me all exited. As exited as I’ve been in a while. Thanks for showing it to me.
86! good for you!
You can do it. My friend Joe was out single handing his 30' boat today and he turned 90 last week. He still keeps the boat on a mooring in Southwest Harbor and rows out.
I'm 50 a USMC you point I'll do!! I'm ready to learn!
What would it cost to get to Vancouver bc
Sail it there
A lot more than the cost of the boat!
Is it safe enough to sail it down to Georgia as is?
No. Its been rotting on the hard for years.
She only need a little of TLC.
Think you should clean before you paint ,not paint then clean
Sigh...I'm not quite ready just yet. Plus, I am very wary of spade rudders. Even a mild grounding can bend the shaft and/or break things.
Not something that happens very often...that rudder has been on there for quite some time. :)
@@boatfools But could this be swapped out for a different rudder type ?
I am on deer isle. I should buy this boat.
Someone just did! She went fast. We'll find more...
No doubt the 382 is a beautiful well found boat.
Agreed! Third season with her has begun!
