    Brilliant video. It has made me get my brain into gear and start to think about another roadtrip. Seeing Australia from the outback gives you a huge sense of wonderment and calm. Such a stunning country that most will not get to experience apart from these beautiful videos.

    I have the same tent and opted out of installing the roofbars due to the possibility of cracking (and clearance). Instead I stuck a flexible solar panel up there that is strapped down from the edges and also stuck with double sided adhesive tape

  • @yallawallahalla
    @yallawallahalla Жыл бұрын

    With this particular tent I agree this is likely the best option. However, in other tents I would not use this option as ideally you want an air gap between the hot solar panel and the tent. Solar panels can sit at well over 50°C so sticking one to your tent will turn it into a heater. Where as even a small air gap underneath will have the opposite effect.

    You’ve gotta be careful in these areas because there has been a lot of yowie sightings and encounters And often most people would walk right past their structures and nobody would ever glance at them unless if you have a very good attention to detail what looks natural and what doesn’t

    15 yrs old I went down a cave here with school camp. A few of my mates decided to sneak off. We were "smart naughty" as we a mate stayed with the main group just in case. Four of us reaches a sign "warning: breathing equipment needed". Another mate stayed back there just in case. Three of us ventured forward, constantly asking if they were okay, and when one of us complained we turned around. So friggin dangerous. Though still remember the thrills 3 decades later lol

    Great review thank you. I have the same tent and have cracking as well do you have any instructions on how to remove the shell? Thank you

  • @InformMotivateInspire
    @InformMotivateInspire3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Joram, glad you liked the videos (saw your comment on the repair video too 👍) I don't have any video instructions on how to remove roof, but here is a bit of a rough guide: First you need to unzip interior roof lining so you can access nuts on the bottom of the 8 large bolts that hold the roof down. Once you remove these bolts (may take some pushing/pulling due to sealant) you then need to remove all the small bolts (found in pairs) around the entire edge of the plastic roof, they go through the metal edge strip and attach to a metal bracket on the other side, this metal brack is bolted to the frame and can stay attached at the frame end. There's not much room to access some of these small edge bolts, and I had to drill a lot of mine out as they were rusted anyway. I replaced them all with small stainless bolts and nuts so they are easy to remove in future (i.e. can get an open-end spanner on the nut on the inside) and won't rust. I hope that makes sense and is helpful.

    Hi mate .does this come with specific mounting bolts or fittings. Got 1 second hand in great condition but didn't have fittings . Any help be great

  • @InformMotivateInspire
    @InformMotivateInspire3 жыл бұрын

    It does come with 4 mounting brackets and bolts when bought new. The brackets are just a flat rectangular peice of galvanised steel around 5mm thick with a slight curve in the middle (plain flat steel would work as well), and the bolts are just a cup head bolt with square neck and can be bought at any hardware store. Long story short, it'd be easy to buy the required parts to mount this tent if it didn't come with any. Just check for cracks in the roof as its a common problem with these tents. Hope that helps. Cheers 👍

    If you dont mind setting up on rocky ground theres quite a bit of space, but if you want a flat dirt patch, we only found one area that just fit our tent, which is where our tent is in the video.

    hi mate what is the brand/wattage/size dimensions of the Solar panel in this video? do you recommend it (the solar panel)? thinking of buying the same tent, hence i would like a similarly sized panel Thanks!

  • @InformMotivateInspire
    @InformMotivateInspire3 жыл бұрын

    Solar panel is 150W from Low Energy Developments, dimensions 148x67cm. I went a relatively inexpensive panel, was around $140 delivered from memory. If we did it again I'd probably go a 200W panel, as the 150W wasn't quite enough to cover our power use, so after about 4 or 5 days we'd have to drive the car to top up our 110Ah battery from alternator.

    Great video! Have you worked out how to repairs the cracks succesfully?

  • @InformMotivateInspire
    @InformMotivateInspire4 жыл бұрын

    Thanks Luke! I have worked out how to repair the cracks. The top is made of ABS plastic so I'm using an ABS 'slurry' (acetone mixed with ABS plastic peices which turns to liquid) to fill the cracks and reinforce it, basically just painting on multiple layers. I'm making a video of the repairs and once its finished I'll post a link to it in the description of this video. Pretty happy with how the repairs have turned out.
