    Forester owner here, and unfortunately you are not correct. The "symmetrical" 4WD of the Subarus refers to the longitudinal axis, a.k.a. left/right, and it means that the two sides have equal lengths arms from the main shaft to the wheels. Not to the traction distribution between front and back. Still a great system, though!

    you can use an aftermarket style USDM 98-11 ford ranger front bumper with a simple DIY adapter plate and a trim of the OEM bumper cover. I have a 8000lb winch mounted and it all cost about $600USD. You'll have to use the SG5 style wiper wash reservoir and trim up the splash guards

    Subaru's AWD doesn't split power 50/50 front to rear, it splits torque 50/50.

  • @Coast2CountryAdventures
    @Coast2CountryAdventures2 ай бұрын

    From my understanding 4EAT transmission Foresters will have 50-50 power split when transmission is in 1 and 2 gear. I’m not sure if that changed with the newer models.

    Great little video, just wanted to ask as I couldn’t tell in the video, is it a manual or auto. I know the manuals have the low range function, if it is, do you use it and is it worth it? Or just stick to an auto.

  • @Coast2CountryAdventures
    @Coast2CountryAdventures2 ай бұрын

    It’s just an auto. Low range would be nice but for sand I think auto is better. Unfortunately low range on the SGs aren’t that great.

    The older Subaru's are okay off road, but the current model Forester with X-mode is amazing for what it is. As you can see in the 18:00 mark here X-mode would have made that happen.

    Hopefully one day I can afford a current model haha how does X-mode affect the off road ability?

  • @Pax-Christi

    @@Coast2CountryAdventures because in situations were you have no traction these old cars will just let the wheel with no traction spin. X-mode will brake the spinning wheel and redistribute torque to the wheels with traction to help you move forward.
