Forester owner here, and unfortunately you are not correct. The "symmetrical" 4WD of the Subarus refers to the longitudinal axis, a.k.a. left/right, and it means that the two sides have equal lengths arms from the main shaft to the wheels. Not to the traction distribution between front and back. Still a great system, though!

you can use an aftermarket style USDM 98-11 ford ranger front bumper with a simple DIY adapter plate and a trim of the OEM bumper cover. I have a 8000lb winch mounted and it all cost about $600USD. You'll have to use the SG5 style wiper wash reservoir and trim up the splash guards

Subaru's AWD doesn't split power 50/50 front to rear, it splits torque 50/50.

From my understanding 4EAT transmission Foresters will have 50-50 power split when transmission is in 1 and 2 gear. I’m not sure if that changed with the newer models.

I always go 12psi on the sand with the forester but probably should have started at 15psi with my stiff tires that haven’t been on a rim in years. You live and learn.

Great little video, just wanted to ask as I couldn’t tell in the video, is it a manual or auto. I know the manuals have the low range function, if it is, do you use it and is it worth it? Or just stick to an auto.

It’s just an auto. Low range would be nice but for sand I think auto is better. Unfortunately low range on the SGs aren’t that great.

Give it a go! Just start easy and work up your confidence and ability. You’ll probably have x-mode in a 2023 and it will make things a lot easier.

Not a bad day out and having a feed of fresh fish. Nice video too. If you enjoy bass fishing along with catching huge Carp try anywhere upstream of Maitland/Singleton area. I used to live in Singleton and caught some nice fish there.

@@Coast2CountryAdventures there is heaps of places upstream of Singleton to Jerry Plains and beyond if you go by Kayak. The river does have some shallow areas along the way and some exposed sandbars to camp on. Jerry Plains bridge that crosses the Hunter River is a good starting point.

The older Subaru's are okay off road, but the current model Forester with X-mode is amazing for what it is. As you can see in the 18:00 mark here X-mode would have made that happen.

@@Coast2CountryAdventures because in situations were you have no traction these old cars will just let the wheel with no traction spin. X-mode will brake the spinning wheel and redistribute torque to the wheels with traction to help you move forward.

@@Coast2CountryAdventures xmode just makes the power transfer a bit more aggressive which makes tricky sections a little easier. Tires are gonna make a much bigger difference since xmode is just software.
