    How does it handle rain? Does it collect it like a bucket?

  • @ShadeSailsCanadaTV
    @ShadeSailsCanadaTV4 күн бұрын

    Hi Bill, the majority of rain will shed to the lowest point. Some rain will seep through the fabric as well. We do offer waterproof fabric, but it does require careful design considerations to ensure it doesn't pool water. Give us a call and we can explain further - 1-855-899-8290

    What is the point of the cables running down the straight edges of the sail? Extra support? safety?

  • @ShadeSailsCanadaTV
    @ShadeSailsCanadaTV4 күн бұрын

    Hi, the cables ensure the sail tensions properly. Correctly installed, your sail should be tight like a drum. Also note - the edges are curved for optimal performance of your sail.

    I made the mistake of ordering a shade the width of my deck to attach to the wall. It does noes work because on one end is the eves or soffit. I wish someone would have had a video how to install over a deck with impediments. My goal was not only sun block, but also some water block. I set the out post in the wrong place as well. Example shade is 14x 14. I place the plat 14 apart. The shade flapped in the wind, next day bad wind storm came up. So diy is a bust for me. Make a video on where to place the eyes based on size of shade over a deck please. Maybe someone else want waste their time and money.

    Thank you for all the techniques on the process of sail setup. They are great. As a life long sailer and a former worker at a boat yard and yacht basin, I understand rigging. I recommend you research proper use of the stainless steel rigging from a sail boat prospective to get maximum reliability from your hardware. There is room for improvement.

    Leaves and Debris that get trapped in between? Snow? Rain?

  • @ShadeSailsCanadaTV
    @ShadeSailsCanadaTV6 ай бұрын

    Thanks for the great questions! It's possible that debris falling from above can become captured by the Shade Weave. A simple sweep should clear them off. Shade fabric is not rated for snow loading. Because of this, we do not recommend flying any shade products during the winter months. Rain is no problem!

    Do you have guidelines for what can support the shade sails? I have a pergola in my yard that the posts have an interior aluminum post that is cemented in the ground with concrete footings. The pergola company told me they are strong enough to withstand 110 mph winds, but could not tell me if would be able to support a shade sail. Wanted to connect the shade sails directly to my house and then out to the pergola posts….

    Do you use springs with your sun shades? I'm in a high wind area and I put a high-tension spring on mine, but it does move more because of it. Is that bad?

  • @ShadeSailsCanadaTV
    @ShadeSailsCanadaTV6 ай бұрын

    Great questions and an interesting design! Our goal is for our fully-tensioned shade sails to remain stationary at all times, even in high wind events. This is why we use our tensioning devices to get the Sails tight like a drum!

    Did you angle it ? I’m not sure if I need to for rain

  • @ShadeSailsCanadaTV

    Great question! Angling your Shade Sail can help water to trend toward and run off a specific corner. If the Shade Sail is not angled, the water will still drain through the permeable shade fabric.

    I love the product, the experience and materials knowledge. Sadly, I bought mine from LV, a great Canadian retailer, but not the sail might not be from here. And it doesn’t have your cable. But I will buy your brick anchor. That said, your presenter here is rushed. At times almost breathless. That isn’t the style for this video. i want to put up shade sails in my backyard. my plan is to attach 6x6 posts onto my existing concrete patio using simpson post bases and wedge anchors. would that be sufficient for a sail thats about 12x24 or do you recommend digging holes into the ground for the posts and pouring cement like you did in this video? thanks!

  • @ShadeSailsCanadaTV
    @ShadeSailsCanadaTV Жыл бұрын

    John, great question! We still recommend using a 4 foot deep hole and sinking your post in with concrete. There is a lot of lateral forces in our Shade Sails (without taking into account the effects of weather) so to ensure longevity of the system, especially in a residential setting, a well-buried footing is advised.
