Hello. I just finished watching all videos on you'r channel. :( Could you please add more? ♥
I'm lucky that Warlord Games has the French now in plastic. But Wargames Atlantic makes nice models too apparently. I'll remember them for the future. Great work!
Truly impressive work. And very inspiring to a starting Bolt Action person like me. Thank you!
lovely minies lovely channel, metal minies will never chip if you use a primer.
Amazing video definitely worth the wait and can’t wait for what’s to come
Wargames atlantic are working on early war british that might be up your alley
Definitely the best way to learn the rules is to play as you read. It engages the rule process and answers questions on the fly. Just kidnap a passing member of the public to game the other units. When watching the battle reports, do you find the gamers seem to lack the basic tactical awareness?
So for shading, try Agrax Earthshade if you have it to hand. It still darkens but is a brown tint which works nicely. I also have Battlefront shades, Rommel Shade and Monty shade which I got for my Flames of War desert forces. The Battlefront paints were developed in conjunction with Vallejo I believe, so there shouldn't be a huge colour shock.
By the way, Len Deighton's book Blitzkrieg presents an interesting view of the early war in France. Meanwhile, did you work out that the axles for the wheels were included in the baggy the wheels came in?
Curious about the colour scheme you chose. While that green colour was present in the French army in 1940, as I understand it Horizon Blue was the colour for the standard infantry. That yellow ochre colour would have been more applicable to the Sudanese troops. However, I am happy to be educated on the matter.
One last observation. It was good to see someone who isn't scared to play more than one gaming system. I have found a lot of Bolt Action vloggers feel they have to slag off GW to promote Bolt Action which only shows them to be insecure. I am sure War Lord Games don't approve, especially since a bunch of them cut their teeth on this stuff at GW. In the mean time, I like you am new to Bolt Action but have been collecting and painting minnies since I were a lad. My son and I have at least 15 gaming systems of all sorts and types. Go with what you love I say.
So, it is a shame you are finding life difficult with the metal miniatures. But here are some observations and tips. Maybe paint the varnish on if your troops continue to chip. I have the metal version of Scorpions, Dragons and Banshee which I painted up in the mid naughties (Ironically with metallic paints). I painted on a matt varnish I got from an arts supply shop and non have chipped or rubbed the paint off. On the other hand I have a tradies tin of British Wellesley figures, (They were never Napoleonic's, they owned the French) all metal that I never varnished. Though it has been a while, the paint is still quite good. When dealing with bent metal parts warm them with water before attempting to straighten. Then put a supporting finger behind the point of the bend and use another to straighten the piece out by pushing the length of the part into the support finger rather than trying it from the tip of the bent item. The same applies to those pesky bent resin parts. But the point is the stress of the movement is supported and born across the whole piece rather than just at the point of the bend. It still does not look like you have a hand grip for holding the miniatures when painting. Work something out because the whole process will be so much more stable. You must be aware of this sort of thing from GW and their products But you don't have to buy them, just look at what other hobbyists are doing on the web. Mid Winter Minnie's, Ninjon, The Painting Phase etc... How are you traveling with finding other early war gamers for Bolt Action. My son and I settled for late war because there seemed more options and it does not appear as though Bolt Action players worry about periods of the war. This puts early war forces at a disadvantage because 1939 weapons are underpowered compared with 1944 weapons. Hope to see you again.
Congratulations on the new born. Lots of fun and terror to be had with them for the rest of your life. I have two boys now in their 30's. They are bigger than me, bruise when they punch and we still engage in common interests. Be involved now and you will be for life.
ive really enjoyed teh series and look forward to seeing more, congratulations on your son.......a tip for preventing chipping on metal models i used gloss varnish as its harder and helps prevent the chipping then go over it with a matt varnish to give a realistic finish
Early war has always been smth tempting. Might get around to it one day
This is minor detail but the lmgs are actually mmgs
Outstanding work!
Thank You!
Hi where can I find the paint list please
Hi, if you click on "MORE" in the video description underneath the video you will find a list of paints that I have used. If you need anything more specific, please let me know.
Buy the 1940 scenario book from too fat Lardies there is the Chain of Command book or the printable file for platoon actions and supports. The I Ain’t Been Shot Mum for company actions and supports then there I ‘O’ Group for Battalion level actions and supports. I know it sounds silly but I have no idea what size battles are played with Bolt Action although I have the rule book for version 1. However I would look at too fat Lardies web site and forums to see if they can be of any help. Also look at Storm of Steel you tube videos just search for storm of steel and see what he has reviewed. He does know what he is talking about.
I’m painting BEF and Blitzkrieg Germans so this will be very helpful
Thank you! What models are you using for the BEF? I have been on the lookout for some good ones. Preferably plastic, but these are hard to come by
@@MercenaryMiniatures My BEF infantry. Are some metal castings in 28mm from Warlord games iSight them for Chain of Command. I bought some 20mm from SHQ (I think) bought for I Ain’t Been Shot Mum but I didn’t buy any vehicles at the time but I can’t get any 20mm such as the 15cwt Bedford or the Morris 8 15cwt truck. I should have bought AB 20mm as they do a good range but more expensive. So I’m going for Late War Brits 15mm for O Group where I can still buy all the kit that I need from Plastic Soldier Company who I think do 20mm vehicles. My eye sight is now poor so I may find I can’t pain anything.
Congratulations on the birth of your son, great video 👍
Thank you
Congratulations on the new addition to the family! And glad you are getting back to some hobby time where you can. On the subject of varnishing - I remember reading that a gloss or satin coat before a matt varnish could possibly help protect your metal miniatures more?
Thank you, it's still a balance fitting in hobby time. But its definitely getting easier. I will give that a try out! thank you for the tip
Love em! Thank you for showing me what ain the box and what you can build of of them!!!
Its such an amazing box, so many possibilities to fix with other sets.
Thank you so much! Great Paintjob!
Thank you.
Thank you!
Are they 1/76 or 1/72 scale
They are 28mm - I am not sure what scale that best fits.
Splendid figures here, love the side car...and already waiting for the walls on the base! Congrats for your son, goooooooooood news!
Thanks You! New video coming soon and I will hopeful get that finished.
Love the colour scheme and paint. What did you use for the orange leaves on the base?
Thank you. For the orange leaves I used a standard orange flock. The type you would get from a train modelling shop. It came as a sheet and I just pulled some of it off.
3:15 The figure got shot
lol 😂
I love these video's the french are my favorite
Thank you for watching!
could i recommend Tamiya Surface primer. it comes in a rattle can and is a very durable primer due to it being a Lacquer paint. It can be slightly pricey but i find that one can can do a whole army. I think this will reduce the amount of paint chipping straight to the metal. Its tough as old boots and i think it will solve this problem somewhat. It stinks so you must spray outdoors.
Thank you, that is a good suggestion that I will try out. Do you know if it leaves the models looking glossy or clear?
Just to be clear it is a primer and not a Varnish. My thought process is that the paint might adhere to it better. But it will not chip off the metal so easily as other primers. worth a try at least.@@MercenaryMiniatures
I completely agree with the metal miniatures: difficult to work with and easy to damage. Therefore I tried to completely stick with plastic or resin miniatures for my early war German army. I have made a medium mortar team from the "251 8cm frame" and a Pak 36 from the "hanomag pak sprue". Together with some 60mm bases, a spare set of wheels and some leftover infantry it worked great!!
That is dedication! I am trying to get use to them, just so that I have more options for different armies.
🎉
Thank you for your support!
Congratulations to you and your family with the addition of another son. I wish many blessing and much health to you all. Amazing work on these miniatures they look fantastic. On a side note did you saw that Warlord games announced the release of a brand new plastic French army set for october?
Thank you! That is very kind. I saw the new plastic French army set announcement today. Even though I have some of the stuff already, I am very tempted. Can you have too many toy soldiers anyway???
@MercenaryMiniatures What??? Too many? That sounds like Heresy to me!!! You can never have enough. The pile of shame must be fed more plastic every soo often, if not.... oh, i dread even the mere thought of that possibility
Brilliant thank you for posting!
Thank you
Congrats on the new edition to the family. Great job on the painting. I agree with you on 10th Edition, and look forward to seeing more on this Bolt Action Army.
Thank you
Congrats on the new addition to both your army and your family! It's great to see a video from you after so long
Thank you, its been a hectic time but its good to be back painting
ah I dont want to be that guy but the shield on the Pak 36 is wrong, it shouldn't be vertical, it slopes backwards
Good Spotting! That's the problem with no instructions. Even simple ones who have helped me a lot lol
Coagulations for your new arrival! Your minis look fantastic as always. I wasn't sure about metal minis when I first started using them, but now I absolutely love them. Especially Perry Miniatures. Their minis are absolutely fantastic quality. I've not had much of a problem with metal minis chipping myself. Sometimes they do, but rarely to any noticeable extent. Do you wash your metal minis in warm soapy water first? They can come with powder or oils on them that can prevent the primer from sticking. Especially Warlord Games metal minis.
Thank you! I am growing to enjoy them. So many miniature ranges are in Metal and I don't want to close myself off to them. I can't remember if I washed these particular miniatures, I normally do. I think the answer is me being more careful with them.
Congratulations on your new arrival! Welcome back and the models are looking great as always!
Thank you! its nice to be back posting videos. Now that we are getting some more sleep lol
I just finshed my blitzkrieg German and Soviets a few months ago and would recommened Getting AT rifles for early war
That's a good idea. What set did you buy that gave you the German AT rifles?
@@MercenaryMiniatures it's on warlord I can give you a link if you want
Yes, please do! Thank you @@CooperTreptow
You’ll want the Blitzkrieg German Weapons Teams box from Warlord Games. It contains a light mortar, sniper team, and anti-tank rifle team. Warlord also recently converted it to their new Warlord Resin Plus. Their magical new resin that’s feels just like plastic to use and paint. But older boxes in 3rd party stores might still have them in metal.
@@Featherus_ yeah it comes in a pack now but the sniper can't be used in many selectors but there is a french equivlent
Congratulations to you and your family on your new arrival! Secondly, brilliant paint job's too. Good stuff all round for you, all the best.
Thank you!
lovely work as always As a french player anything below medium artillery is heresy of the greatest magnitude but that pak is so lovely that i dont care
he he, I will have to remember that when I am buying my French artillery. I really like the look of the 75mm gun, but I am not sure if that counts as medium artillery.
@@MercenaryMiniatures ok ok the 75 is that classic that it works jejeje
I’m new to your series will these miniatures be used in a Bolt Action gameplay series in the future? I’m also new to the world of Bolt Action
Thank you for watching. Yes, I am planning on doing some battle reports in the future. This project is a slow build, and I am juggling it with work and family life, but battle reports will feature in the future.
Congratulations ,and good to c u back
Thank you, its nice to be back painting
solid painting!
Thank you
Congratulations on your new arrival 🎉 and great to have you back. 👍
Thank you! 😃
Lovely looking miniatures, great paint job and no doubt will be a great addition to your force. And congratulations on the new addition to your family ! 😃
Thank you very much!
Just bought that kit, do look at Rubicon models, great kits , go together well and plenty of all nationalities stuff
Thank you. I am looking at the Rubicon kits. Slightly daunting as people say they are very intracate and detailed.
I love these vlogs of yours. Keep them coming please and thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I have just posted the newest episode yesterday.
