Can i use on removable vinyl?
You can use stencil vinyl or removable vinyl. Just make sure the vinyl has no bubbles around the edges where the etching cream might seep through.
My flowers dried on their own on a vase, they have been in the water for 3 weeks. Can I still do the silica gel or should I just place them in the shadow box? FYI I don't want to pressed them.
Hi Pamela. If the flowers are fairly dry already, you won't benefit as much from using silica gel. Silica gel works best when the flowers are still soft and have some of their original color. I hope this helps you make a decision. You may want to grab some silica gel for next time, though! 😊
@@FirstDayofHome Thank you! So basically it is best to discard them. Or would they last a few on the shadow box?
@pamelarodriguez3091 Oh you can definitely still keep them in a shadow box. They may look more vintage, but I’m sure they would still be meaningful to you and worth keeping.
God bless you all and Jesus Christ loves you all!!💝💝
Thank you!
They are all equally beautiful!
Thanks, Lou! They are so easy to make. I hope you try it.
Love this❤
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
❤
🥰
Thank you for your tutorial. Love it!!! I would like to try your technique on fabrics for totes, t-shirts, ...How to preserve the colors when washing the item? Thank you. ❤Kind regards, Aurore
Thank you, Aurore! I have some information on doing this technique with fabric. I hope to do another video to show you, but in the meantime, you can read more here: www.firstdayofhome.com/flower-pounding/
@@FirstDayofHome Thank you . I can not wait to share some of my finished work.❤
@aurorestubbs3926 I would love to see it! You can tag me on Instagram when you do. 😊 @firstdayofhome
You gave me some excellent ideas. I loved watching the video. The shadow box you did for your niece was beautiful!
I’m so glad to hear that, Kerry! I hope you enjoy experimenting with it.
Hi, after the silica gel, do you need to apply something to the flowers? I read that sometimes is good to put some hairspray on them.
Hi Maria! Yes, you can apply a fixative like hair spray to help the flowers maintain their shape. I don’t usually add anything to mine, but I’m hoping to make a video showing a comparison soon.

@@FirstDayofHome I can't wait to see what you make next with MP!
Thank you. I am a masculine single father with a 1880 farmhouse that I am trying to decorate. I was out on the tractor brush hogging the field that isn't pasture and decided I would stop and cut some of the flowers and dry them myself vs paying $30 a bundle for the ones I was looking to buy. I make crafts in my wood shop in my pole barn. I also raise hogs out of my 1890 bank barn on pasture. I love old things, and living natural, eating fresh, home grown foods.
I hope this tutorial is helpful! I imagine it’s a lot of work to keep up with an 1880 farmhouse, but I’m sure it gives you lots of inspiration. Good luck with your projects, and thanks for watching.
I feel like you were really transparant at the end of the Video, Thank you
Thank you! Glad you appreciated that.
Beautiful!! Why do you make scratches at the area you are goona put the heart????
Thank you! It just helps the clay to stick a little better when you’re attaching two pieces.
i thought it was about saving the mat layout in design space...
Sorry I misread your comment at first. Not sure if you were just expecting different content. This is about storing your physical Cricut mats.
Beautiful ❤️
Thank you, Marya!

They turned out so beautifully!!! Never thought of pressed flower stickers. Thank you for sharing! -Jane
Thanks, Jane! The stickers are fun to give as gifts too. 😊
Love all your videos! You are inspiring! Thank you! I will definitely try this method for pressing flowers. :)
Thank you, Shannon! That is such a nice compliment. 😊 I liked using these boards since you don’t have to cut them. You can actually make two flower presses with the pack of 4 boards, or you can use the 2 extra boards for other craft projects. Have fun!

I have a old tire swing that we stoped using and now I know what do do with it thanks❤
I’m glad to hear that! Enjoy your tire planter. 😊
I have a kallax unit and had no idea I could do this!!! Yay!!!! I am ordering one!!!
I’m so glad this gave you an idea! Are you adding the desktop or getting some drawers or baskets?
Beautiful! I loved living in my Mom's house with her and without her. I had hoped I would have been able to stay and buy out my siblings but was unable to. I dug up her hydrangias and my uncle has been keeping them for me until i can buy a little house soneday. I am sorry i didn't dig up one of her hosta plants. Such beautiful leaves that would have been beautiful for this craft. The leaves would fill up with water and the little birds gently would sit on their edge and drink the water. I recently purchased DAS air dry clay to make a mold of my Dad's hand but i do not know how to ask him if i can make the print. I never saw your site until 11 pm 5/1/24. I haven't been able to sleep so i am visiting you once again now at 2:50am. I should try to sleep i start work tomorrow at 7 am. Beautiful crafts you make! Blessings, Rebekah in VA
I love hydrangeas! I’m glad you were able to keep those plants to remember your mom. I can picture little birds drinking from hostas too. 😊 Enjoy crafting with Das clay. I hope it brings you joy! Thanks for following along. Best wishes, Crissy
This is so AWESOME to see tonight (5/1). I just purchased white air dry clay to experiment with it gor diff crafts and i have been wanting to make earrings. I love little trays and bowls for my personal jewerly. I hage Mod Podge on hand and i have a bottle of very beautiful gold paint. I recently purchased a pack of beautful black eyed Susan napkins with bubble bees on them. My Mom passed away in 2021 and her favorite flower was black eyed Susans. I wanted to make another craft with the napkins. But, i want to try to make a bowl like this. If i succeed at it I will post it on instagram with a shout out to you and I wil make 2 more bowls to give to my sister and niece on my Mom's birthday. Yiur instructions are wonderful thank you so much. I will check out your site and follow. Excuse the typos my letters are going bad. Blessings, Rebekah
Thanks so much, Rebekah! I'm glad you are feeling inspired to craft something with clay. I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I think crafting is a great way to remember your mom and share that with your siblings. Blessings back to you! -Crissy
I see labels…did you make those?
Yes I did. I have a little more detail about those in my blog post: www.firstdayofhome.com/decoupage-cans/. I just made some quick stickers with my Cricut.
Lovely! How do you ensure no sharp edges??
@@susanmartin870 I went around the rim with a pair of needle nose pliers to push down any rough edges. Hope that helps!
I love the flowers on Water color paper I’m so glad I found you ❤ Be blessed
Thank you, Dana! I’m glad you found your way over here too.😊
What kind of paper is used for the photo copy.
It’s laser copy paper. Here’s more info: www.firstdayofhome.com/photo-transfer-to-wood/#no-laser-printer-no-problem
I do this for Summer vases to give away flowers I grow! ... save n have fam n friends save tall cans like yams n Bush's beans!😊 Fab vid🎉
I love that tradition! You never look at a tin can without seeing its potential, right? I wish I could grow more pretty flowers to give to friends. 🌸❤️
iNK ?!! There is no ink coming from the flowers
Are you making a point about semantics, or are you having trouble with the craft?
Alf & Alice
Ha! Love the names!
❤❤
Thank you!😊
Beautiful work! Turned trash into treasure! ❤
Thanks, Mary! This was a fun project.
Would be beautiful @ picknick for spoons and forks!!❤❤❤❤
Yes! That’s a great idea, and you can coordinate with the leftover napkins.💗
Thank you so much , first time doing this and your video is brilliant. Did it first time 😊
I’m so glad it was helpful! Once you get the hang of it, it’s quite simple and looks much prettier than a top stitch to close a project. 😊
Charming!
Thanks, Sheila!🥰
Hey there! Is it possible to press the flowers after drying them out with silica gel? Or would they be too fragile?😮
I think they would be too fragile. I generally pick one method or the other. If the face of the flowers are fairly flat, I press them. For roses and flowers that have layers of petals, I like using silica gel. Hope that helps!
@@FirstDayofHome Oh I see. This is my first attempt with silica gel but are the petals crumbly once dry?
@kimabeno Yes, I would say they are fragile. Sometimes petals may slip out if you move them around or shake them too hard. You can reattach any loose petals with acid-free glue if you need to. I even use hot glue sometimes if it won’t show.
@@FirstDayofHome Thank you so much for the tips! I'm excited how they'll turn out😚
@kimabeno I’m excited for you to try! If at first you don’t succeed, try again. It takes a little trial and error to find out what works for your flowers. I hope you enjoy the process. 😊
These turned out so pretty. Love the napkins you chose! -Jane
Thanks, Jane! The napkins make all the difference, I think.
This is super creative, thanks!
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it.
Those came out so beautiful!
Thanks, SuzAnne!💗
