Car Babble

Car Babble is what happens when a car enthusiast watches one too many car reviews on KZread and thinks, “hmmm, maybe I could do that?”

If you’re looking for in-depth, unbiased and lighthearted reviews of new and used cars that normal people actually might buy, this is the place for you.

Full disclosure: I am just a guy with a passion for cars. I am not a racing driver or a mechanic and try my best to talk about only things I know about. If I get something wrong, I am happy to be corrected.

Oh, and I have an day job, so make videos when I can, but if you enjoy this content, please do give it a LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and hit the notification bell so you never miss me babbling about cars...

Thanks, Euan

    Every car I have sold I used eBay - whilst it does attract more weirdos it does allow you to force potential scammers via the eBay message system. Once I have their number I call them. You can tell a lot about a person within the first few seconds. Your cut instinct isn't perfect, but it's a great initial gatekeeper.

    When anybody asks me 'what is the best price you will take for it?' I always answer that if they come to see it and test drive it they will see it is well worth the price I am asking for it.

    I recently saw a nice Audi A4 Avant for sale on auto trader. The number plates were blanked out so I e mailed the seller and asked for the registration and explained that I wanted to do a HPI check, look at MOT history and get an idea of the insurance costs. He sent me an e mail back saying that he would provide the registration in case I was trying to clone his car….. Surely a scam?

    2:45 OMG I thought the one bubble/blister I have would be a nuisance, but you have a 3rd degree burn victim! 😱 And like they say "there is an app for that", in car world there is the aftermarket for that (buttons etc.). I have a phone mount behind the wheel and the Commander/Sexy-buttons from Enhauto, so I have a speedometer in front of me (if I'm not using Waze constantly 😂) and I have buttons I can map to functions... Well, I also have their Knob, so I guess I'm a sucker for their gear. 😔😋 Your stalk sounds like a monday-morning product, because it only needs one index finger to activate. AC air flow: you haven't split your vent flow yet? Use two fingers to split your AC flow, in a zoom out way. Maybe that will give you the control over the flow you are looking for.

  • @car_babble
    @car_babble2 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment! No, I've not done that with the AC splitting them but will give that a whirl. I've a few aftermarket things going in but mainly cosmetic.

    Hiya, I believe it's a 50 kWh 360 V lithium-ion. The extra power of the long range is noticeable and very useful but the RWD is still quick enough for most. I've not been in the 2024 highland but it seems to have gotten better in some areas but not dramatically. Hope that helps!

Plus, I think it looks better. Full disclosure, I haven't driven the MK8, but I've been in one!

    Great video! Been following your channel for a while and I am considering buying a new car between Octavia or BMW 320i. In terms of riding and comfort, do you think Skoda comes close to the BMW in drive quality and for comfort do you think seats and lumbar support also edge it? I also have back problem so want lumbar, but I've been hearing bmw have some of the best seats

  • @car_babble
    @car_babble18 күн бұрын

    Thanks for the comment! The seats in the Octavia were definitely better by quite some distance, for me anyway. The suspension is very firm on both but would probably say I found it marginally more annoying in the Skoda, however, either car on an open road will not be terrible but around town it'll be proper firm and fidget.. For the F or G 3 series, I just don't rate the seats at all, though, but mainly because they are too firm for me and as I usually buy used cars, finding ones with lumbar support is a challenge. If I'd had this in my F30, it would have made a big difference but the Octavia definitely wins on seats in my opinion.

    Got the 220d GLC AMG same as this, slightly less engine power. Honest view from me. Great car, love it. Don't find the 220d underpowered at all, plenty of power and torque (more than enough than I need and I've owned an SLK), no problem overtaking. Good fuel economy as well, nearly 50mpg if careful and on eco setting. Engines are a bit noisy at idle compared to say BMW, but not really an issue. As you say fine when on the move. Suspension a good mix of smooth but firm, much better suspension than X3, which is a bone shaker (took one back and went for GLC instead). I've had a few Mercs and found them reliable but I have had a problem with the GLC people should be aware of on the diesels. They get the dreaded Adblue problem every few months, where it says there's no Adblue in but it's full, then it says it will switch the engine off at the end of 400 miles (everything works fine but its set up to switch off if Euro6 not complied with). It's been back to garage on warranty for repairs but that lasted only 2 months and the dreaded nessage has just re-appeared. I've googled fixes and it appears it can be sorted but garage's seem to get locked in a loop of trying to fix them if not done properly. So great car, ticks all my boxes but could someone give in trying to live with this Adblue glitch?

I said " who is this?" and because it was taking to loong to respond... I block her/him. Later two more "prospect buyers' asked me to send them the report.... I didn't have a clue what they were referring to, they send me a link and explained about it.... I only checked it and saw that I had to pay to get the report and said "NO, I won't buy any report for you", they insisted that they wanted to go ahead with the deal but if I do not provide the report they wont go further. I said again, NO, I won't buy any report, if you want, I will provide the VIN number for you to buy it. they insisted... I said "Bye" and block them.

    2013 V60 D5 R-Design LUX NAV Owner here; i like how the two things you turned off are the same things i did with mine; they just don't work right, but all the other stuff i leave on :D - I would in future avoid r-design spec due to how stiff its setup; get se lux etc and get it specd up :) There very little to complain about in real terms, yes the info system is showing its age, but it works and is still for the nav getting map updates. The boot on the V60 is only 430L which in estate land is small; the newer 2018+ V60's have a far better boot but are not a Volvo to me. Its hard to look at replacements when this car does things so well.

    In addition to keyless entry - having them linked to a profile is great - get into the car in easy entry mode and the seat is set back and the steering wheel adjusted out of the way - touch the brake and everything is adjusted automatically to your preferences! Share the car? Add a profile and a keycard or mobile and never have to squeeze behind the wheel again! Also for newer cars the Bluetooth can sense when you and yr phone are behind it and open the boot - no waggy legs! Lastly the phone can be in range of the car but not in use - say on the bedside overnight and the car knows this and automatically disconnects - helping to reduce the chance of theft. Then there’s pin to drive….. at this point my partner has either hit me or fallen asleep! Glad you’re enjoying the car - they’re not perfect but brilliant at the same time! Subscribed
